Chapter 98: The Wager

Ignoring Ma Ku’er’s pleas, sobs, and curses in the room, Feifei returned directly to her room, packed all her belongings into a storage bag, and left the villa.

It was only at this moment that Mu Lin realized this Feifei had no master. His overflowing enthusiasm was like being drenched by a bucket of icy water in winter—completely chilled to the bone. However, considering that this Feifei could speak and possessed high intelligence, Mu Lin found slight comfort in his thoughts.

Following Feifei from a distance down several streets, Mu Lin noticed she was heading toward the Hilton Hotel where he stayed. It seemed she was searching for him. He immediately stepped forward and shouted in English, “Senior! Are you looking for me?”

Mu Lin had been troubled about how to address Feifei. After some thought, he decided to call her Senior, simply because she appeared much older.

The Feifei ahead stopped upon hearing Mu Lin’s shout. She looked at him for a while, then slowly spoke in Chinese, “Kid, which sect are you from? After so many years, you people have finally found me! Are you here to fight me?” She closed her eyes.

Mu Lin was completely baffled by Feifei’s words and expression. He responded in Chinese respectfully, “Senior! I am from the Xuanqing Palace! Could you please tell me what this is all about?” His tone was questioning and courteous.

“Xuanqing Palace? Never heard of it! When did another sect called Xuanqing Palace emerge in the Central Plains? However, kid, your cultivation is indeed strong—you must be close to forming a golden core!” Feifei said arrogantly.

“Yes! Since Senior can recognize my cultivation level, please tell me what this is all about?” Mu Lin continued respectfully.

“Hehe! Pretend all you want, kid! Didn’t your seniors from your sect tell you about me?” Feifei said coldly.

“Haha! My seniors have passed away, so no one told me anything,” Mu Lin replied with a self-deprecating smile.

“Then didn’t your seniors or friends in the Daoist sects tell you about me?” Feifei’s tone was no longer so cold.

“Senior, do you even know where the Daoist sects are? I’ve searched for three years in China and haven’t found a single sect!” Mu Lin asked excitedly, hoping to finally learn news about the sects.

“Don’t tell me you haven’t been to Kunlun, Emei, or Jiuhua? You expect me to believe that? You’re still too green, kid!” Feifei mocked.

Although Mu Lin was furious inside, he desperately wanted to learn about the Daoist cultivators and thus restrained his temper, “I’ve been to all those places, but there were only caves protected by formations. There was no one left!”

“That’s impossible! I left the Central Plains less than 800 years ago. How could such a thing happen?” Feifei asked in surprise.

Now Mu Lin finally understood. It turned out this senior was also clueless about the Daoist sects, not much better than himself, just slightly more outdated in information.

He no longer needed to restrain his temper and replied mockingly, “Haha! I thought you knew everything! Turns out you’re just another clueless old fool! You kept calling me ‘kid, kid’—did you enjoy that?”

“Calling you kid is actually showing you respect! If it were up to my previous master’s temper, he’d probably call you ‘grandson’!” Feifei retorted playfully.

“Oh yeah? But your master is gone now, and you’re just a little crawling creature! What can you do?” Mu Lin was clearly provoked.

“I may be a little crawling creature, but dealing with a greenhorn like you is still easy enough!” Feifei said lazily.

Seeing Feifei’s lazy expression, Mu Lin suddenly calmed down. If it weren’t for his recent improvement in mental composure, he might have fallen into Feifei’s trap.

“Not bad, kid! You managed to calm down so quickly. Your seniors must have taught you well,” Feifei said lazily.

“Hehe! Old fox! You almost got me! Master Mu almost fell into your trap! Let’s test your skills then. Show me what your master taught you?” Mu Lin mocked Feifei.

“Oh yeah? Then how do you want to test me? I won’t do anything without payment! You know, testing skills is quite tiring!” Feifei said arrogantly.

“Simple! We each show our best technique and see who can defeat the other. After all, I’ve just completed my training and haven’t tested it on anyone yet!” Mu Lin said proudly.

“Oh! So you’re still a rookie! Hehe!” Feifei mocked.

“Save your breath. In the end, whoever wins becomes the boss!” Mu Lin snapped.

“Fine! Then come at me!” Feifei said confidently.

“Seriously? You want to fight right here? It’ll definitely cause a huge commotion!” Mu Lin exclaimed in surprise.

“So what? They’re just barbarians anyway. What’s there to fear?” Feifei replied carelessly.

“If you don’t care, then why should I? Let’s go!” Mu Lin said, taking a fighting stance. Thinking about it, he found it somewhat amusing that his first real fight would be against a beast.

They were still in a busy downtown area. Although it was already night, a fight would certainly draw attention. If someone recorded the fight with a camera, he would become a monster in the eyes of the public, leading to an investigation. Now he was thinking how to end the fight quickly and subdue Feifei.

Feifei opened her storage bag and took out some talismans, seemingly planning to use talisman techniques to win.

Based on their initial confrontation, Mu Lin sensed that his spiritual power was stronger than Feifei’s. Moreover, he specialized in physical combat rather than talisman or formation techniques.

Therefore, Mu Lin first cast a spatial restraint, pinning Feifei in a small space. Then, he quickly launched a net of lightning toward the struggling Feifei.

At this point, Feifei couldn’t use her talismans at all. She was soon struck by Mu Lin’s lightning, her body trembling violently. Animals naturally fear lightning, and seeing the fire from Mu Lin’s ability flying toward her, she quickly took out a fire-ward talisman and used it. At this point, she had absolutely no ability to counterattack.

After using all his abilities, Mu Lin rushed directly toward Feifei without waiting to see the results, grabbed her, and gathered his spiritual energy, preparing to use his physical techniques.

However, once he grabbed Feifei, he saw that she had tightly closed her eyes, appearing completely resigned to her fate. Her pitiful expression made him stop his attack.
