Chapter 114: Bait

Mr. Wang and several senior physicians who knew Mu Lin was coming had been waiting outside the clinic for him. When Mr. Wang saw Mu Lin, the worry on his face instantly turned into excitement. Mu Lin rushed forward and tightly grasped his teacher’s hands: “Teacher! I’m sorry! I arrived late! I’ve made you all work so hard!”

“Mu Lin! This patient’s condition is quite complicated, and the patient himself is quite influential,” Mr. Wang hurriedly explained.

“Teacher! Don’t worry! No matter how powerful the patient is, once they’re here, they must follow our instructions, right?” Mu Lin interrupted, looking at his teacher’s anxious expression, and added again, “Teacher! Just leave it to me! Everything will be fine!”

Following the teachers into the clinic, Mu Lin was led into a small meeting room where all the clinic’s doctors were already waiting for him.

As Mu Lin stood inside the clinic, he could sense a gloomy atmosphere hanging over the place. Everyone’s faces carried a subtle sadness, which didn’t seem to ease even with Mu Lin’s arrival. When they saw Mu Lin arrive with his little mischievous companion, some even showed faint signs of disapproval in their eyes. Mu Lin himself was well aware that although he had founded the clinic and brought these doctors here from China, after the establishment of branch clinics across various regions, except during the initial gathering and opening period, the doctors at these branches had never actually seen him treat patients. Therefore, their lack of confidence in him was completely understandable.

The clinic housed an equal number of Western and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) doctors, including acupuncturists. For urgent illnesses requiring medication, Mu Lin never insisted strictly on using only TCM. Conversely, for chronic diseases that Western medicine couldn’t control, that was where TCM came into its own.

Thus, Mu Lin first convened a case analysis meeting where Western and TCM doctors sat separately, clearly divided. Mu Lin found this amusing because he himself held qualifications in both fields, making it difficult for others to categorize him into either group.

Mu Lin never considered himself a genius. Diagnosing illnesses required thorough data and careful investigation to accurately determine the condition, and only then could the best treatment method be found to achieve optimal results.

First, Mu Lin listened to the Western doctors’ description of the patient’s condition, sitting together with several teachers and hearing the Western physicians’ professional explanations and the treatments they had applied. After listening, Mu Lin didn’t express any opinion. Then it was the TCM doctors’ turn to describe the condition and the treatments they had used. Once both sides had finished their reports, Mu Lin signaled them to wait a moment.

In fact, from the moment Mu Lin entered the clinic, he had begun scanning the entire facility using his sensory abilities. Due to its location in a major city like Washington, the clinic was quite large, consisting of an eight-story main building and a six-story annex. The main building housed most of the medical equipment and patient rooms, while the annex served as residential quarters for the doctors and their families. At that moment, he only needed to scan the fifth and sixth floors, where the patient rooms were located, to obtain the information he needed.

On the sixth floor, in one of the patient rooms, Mu Lin discovered two people accompanying the patient besides the hospital nurses. These two were clearly not clinic staff, as all clinic personnel wore hospital uniforms and carried identification badges with standardized numbers and names on them.

These two individuals, however, were dressed in formal suits, clearly high-level white-collar workers. One of them even carried a medical first-aid kit. After briefly scanning the kit, Mu Lin withdrew his sensory perception, as the doctors from both sides had completed their reports.

Looking at the two groups of doctors, Mu Lin said, “Delusions, crying, laughing, hallucinations, delusions, dementia with silence and refusal to eat or drink—typical schizophrenia. That’s your conclusion, right?” He pointed at the Western medicine group, who nodded in agreement.

“Grief, excitement, silence, incoherent speech, fixed pupils—typical Qi loss syndrome (Shihun Zheng). That’s your conclusion, correct?” The acupuncturists also nodded in agreement.

“I’ve listened to both of your treatment plans, and they are basically sound. How about this—we go to the patient’s room for a direct consultation. Wouldn’t that be more beneficial for diagnosing and treating the condition? If there are no objections, let’s all go together!” With a calm tone, Mu Lin finished speaking and walked toward the door first. His composed attitude gradually infected the other doctors, and someone spontaneously took the lead.

Following the group, Mu Lin entered the patient’s room. As soon as he stepped inside and saw the two unfamiliar individuals, he deliberately feigned hesitation and asked, “May I ask who these two gentlemen are?”

Before the clinic staff could answer, one of the two stood up arrogantly and said, “We are Mr. Stanford’s personal physician and bodyguard! Protecting Mr. Stanford is our duty! And may I ask who you are? Why has Mr. Stanford’s condition not improved after three days here, but instead worsened? I have already informed the media about this. I hope you can give us a satisfactory explanation! Otherwise, you will face a lawsuit and our retaliation!”

“Oh! Did I ask you? Besides, this is my clinic, a private facility. Did I invite you two in?” Mu Lin’s expression suddenly turned cold, and the chill radiating from him made everyone nearby shiver involuntarily, instinctively stepping back from him.

“Security!” Mu Lin called out. Immediately, four guards entered the room.

“I currently suspect these two individuals of illegally entering my private premises with malicious intent. I want you to detain them immediately, inspect their belongings, and report this to the police!” Mu Lin ordered the guards sternly.

The guards already knew who the real boss was here. Upon receiving Mu Lin’s command, they immediately moved forward to subdue the two individuals. Although one of them was a bodyguard, he was quickly overpowered by a three-to-one advantage and had no chance to resist.

Subsequently, the guards searched both individuals and placed their belongings on the table in the room.

“I will file a lawsuit against you! We were allowed in here with your permission! This is illegal detention and illegal search! I will make sure your clinic goes bankrupt!” Despite being restrained, the personal physician continued to shout and struggle.

“Oh! I’d really like to know who authorized your entry. Can you tell me which individual or individuals allowed you in?” Mu Lin changed his tone to a warm and friendly one, speaking kindly to the two men. The sudden shift in his demeanor left the surrounding doctors momentarily stunned. Even the senior physicians, including Mr. Wang, were momentarily confused by Mu Lin’s approach. After all, wasn’t this just a personal physician and a bodyguard? Was it really necessary to go to such extremes?
