Chapter 34: Rebirth

The moon hides and the sun rises, yin and yang alternate. Birdsong awakens the earth, and the fragrance of flowers ushers in the dawn.

Outside the Ghost Forest, precisely at the center of a massive pit left ten years ago, a naked young man lies motionless amidst the wild grass, utterly still.

A gentle morning breeze suddenly swirls into a vortex. A strange bird bursts from the Ghost Forest, circling briefly before easily spotting its meal. In an instant, its beak quivers, elongating by a foot, gleaming with a chilling light. Like a meteor, the monstrous bird dives swiftly toward its prey.

“Bang!” The half-demonic bird’s sharp beak pierces the human body, but suddenly, a burst of red light erupts from the meal, sending the bird flying. Before it can retreat back into the Ghost Forest, the flying creature is already torn apart—shattered into pieces!

“Ouch…” Intense pain stirs the naked man awake. The moment his eyes flutter open, the bloodstains on his chest mysteriously seep back into the wound as if alive. As the man, still groggy, half-sits up, the deep, long gash vanishes entirely—his smooth skin bears not even a trace of redness.

“What the hell?! Where am I?! Why am I sleeping outdoors?!” he exclaims, suddenly realizing his predicament. “Yaaah—where are my clothes?!”

The naked man is none other than Qiao San, the man who supposedly died. The fellow who fell into the abyss not only remains intact in limbs but also perfectly sane. Yet, just like ten years ago, he remembers nothing of what happened after he entered the Ghost Forest last night—except for a vague recollection of a passionate spring dream!

“Damn it, this must be some prank! Who’s that bored? Could it be those idiotic seniors again?!” Memories of the City God Temple election flood his mind. With a wry smile, the rogue smirks, rises to his feet, and prepares to seek revenge!

“Plop—” Something drops from Qiao San, prompting him to look down instinctively. Alongside a tattered book, he notices his own nakedness. Though he’s in the wilderness, instinctive shame and habit immediately send him crouching back into the bushes.

“What the heck is this thing?!” Qiao San carelessly picks up the yellowed, worn-out book and flips through it casually. But even with his hidden identity—as scholar Qiao Sheng—he shockingly finds himself unable to recognize a single character!

“Hell, this is all nonsense! Can’t even be used as toilet paper!” He angrily flings the book away.

After a while, however, his attitude abruptly changes. He rushes back toward the poor, battered book.

As the moon faded and the sun rose, the world transitioned from darkness to light. The chirping of birds awakened the earth, and the fragrance of flowers heralded the dawn.

Outside the Ghost Forest, in the center of a large pit left ten years ago, a naked young man lay motionless amidst the wild grass.

A gentle morning breeze suddenly swirled, and a strange bird flew out from the Ghost Forest. After a brief hover, it easily spotted its prey. With a flick of its beak, it extended by a foot, gleaming coldly as it darted like a meteor toward the meal.

“Bang!” The half-demon bird’s sharp beak pierced the human body, but it was struck by a sudden burst of red light from the prey and sent flying. Before it could return to the Ghost Forest, the bird was torn apart!

“Ouch…” The excruciating pain jolted the naked man awake. As he opened his eyes, the bloodstain on his chest seemed to have a life of its own, magically retreating back into the wound. By the time the man sat up groggily, the deep and long wound had vanished without a trace, leaving his smooth skin unblemished.

“Where am I?! How… how did I end up sleeping in the wild?! Ah—where are my clothes?!”

The naked man turned out to be Qiao San, who was supposed to be “dead.” The man who had fallen into the abyss was not only unharmed but also perfectly normal, except that, just like ten years ago, he had forgotten everything that happened after entering the Ghost Forest last night. He vaguely remembered having a steamy dream!

“Damn it, this must be a prank! Who’s so bored? Could it be those idiot bosses?!” The scene of the City God Temple election flooded his mind. With a self-mocking smile, the rogue stood up, ready to settle the score.

“Thud—” Something fell from Qiao San’s body, making him instinctively look down. As he saw a tattered book, he also noticed his own nakedness. Although it was the wilderness, instinctive shame and habit made him squat down into the grass.

“Huh?! What’s this?!” The rogue casually picked up the yellowed, tattered book and flipped through it. To his surprise, given his hidden identity as scholar Qiao Sheng, he found that he couldn’t recognize a single word!

“Damn it, what a mess! Can’t even use it as toilet paper! Bang!”

Feeling his pride wounded, he tossed the book aside. But after a while, he suddenly changed his mind and hurriedly pounced on the poor, tattered book.

“Ha, ha…” After a moment, Bold San burst into laughter. The rogue finally straightened his back, muttering to himself with great satisfaction, “No problem can stump Bold San! Heh, heh…”

A loop of grass vines wrapped around his waist, and the messy grass and pages of the book tied together, effectively covering Qiao San’s private parts.

Turns out, he had torn the pages one by one and fashioned them into a futuristic mini grass skirt. Heh, heh…

The primitive man sneaked toward the town, his cunning and triumphant laughter drifting across the fields, even carried by the wind into the Ghost Forest, startling the recently calmed East Gate of the realm.

“Bold San is back! He’s returned safely from the Ghost Forest—”

The astonishing news spread like wildfire. Within a day, it became common knowledge within a hundred miles of Liubang Town.

“The legend of the Ghost Forest has been broken! Someone actually walked out alive! A miracle, a miracle—”

Within three days, the entire kingdom of Aolai was in an uproar. Few knew who Qiao San was, but the name “Bold San” became a legend in Aolai. From that day on, the official road to Liubang Town saw an influx of heroes and beauties.

Far away in the capital of Aolai, a thousand miles from Liubang Town, the ruler of the kingdom was not one to idolize the rogue legend of Bold San. The pale-faced, long-bearded old emperor frowned deeply, the imperial study filled with an oppressive aura that could suffocate thousands.

“My ministers, the situation in Liubang Town is getting out of hand. Even the capital is rife with rumors. What do you think we should do about this?”

The left and right ministers of Aolai stood below. The slightly plump left minister bowed and replied, “Your Majesty, in my humble opinion, this is nothing more than the tricks of some rogue troublemakers. It’s not worth believing, and we should ignore it.”

“Your Majesty!” As soon as the left minister finished, the tall and lean right minister took over, “We must not take this lightly. The rogues in Liubang Town already number in the thousands, and now with this commotion, their momentum has only grown. If we don’t take preventive measures, someone with ulterior motives might exploit this and cause a major incident!”

“Hmm, the right minister is right. It’s time to deal with this! My ministers, do you have anyone to recommend? I don’t want to resort to drastic measures and incite civil unrest! Moreover, this seems to involve supernatural elements. Should we consult the national advisor?”

“Your Majesty, there’s no need to trouble the national advisor. I recommend Beigong Ping from the renowned family of divine constables. He is not only fiercely opposed to evil and skilled in solving cases, but he also possesses a family heirloom demon-slaying sword. Known among the people as the ‘Yin-Yang Divine Constable,’ he is the perfect choice!”

The left minister was about to object, but the old king nodded, “Very well! Summon Beigong Ping to the palace!”

In the underworld, the Nine Nether Palace.

“Your Majesty, the Ten Sun Pearl has been destroyed by the heavens!” The one-horned ghost king recounted the events in detail. When it came to framing the fox queen, he made it sound like a necessary act, ending with a sigh, “Unfortunately, we failed to capture the ghost maiden who absorbed the Ten Sun’s energy. But I have ordered the ghost clan to conduct a thorough search. I believe we’ll have good news within a few days!”

“No need! A mere ghost maiden is of little use!” The voice of the Demon King, devoid of emotion, echoed from within the black mist, directly imprinting itself into the minds of the demons.

“Since the heavens have destroyed my Ten Sun Pearl, we must ensure they don’t recover the ‘Heaven and Earth Eternal Scripture’! Peng Demon King, this time, you and Jade Fan will take charge. Use any means necessary to destroy the true scripture!”

The winds of heaven and earth remained heavy and gloomy, but the target of the howling gales had subtly shifted!

The whereabouts of the “Earth Treatise” and the “Ghost Scripture” remain unknown, but the location of the “Heavenly Law” is clear!

“The Primordial Purple Mansion Mountain, the Supreme Jade Maiden, the ‘Heavenly Law True Scripture’!”

The first demon of the underworld raised its bird-like head, unable to resist silently reciting these words, followed by an overwhelming surge of murderous intent that permeated the world beyond!

A vine wraps around his waist, binding together wild grass and torn pages of the book, effectively covering Qiao San’s private areas.

Indeed, the scoundrel had torn the book page by page, fashioning an ultra-modern, ultra-short grass skirt. Hehe…

The primitive-looking man sneaks toward the town, his sly, triumphant laughter drifting across the plains. The wind carries it into the Ghost Forest, startling the eastern gate of the area, which had just begun to calm down.

“Fearless San is back—he’s returned safely from the Ghost Forest!”

The astonishing news spreads like wildfire. Within a day, it becomes common knowledge within a hundred miles of Liumang Town!

“The legend of the Ghost Forest has been broken! Someone actually walked out alive! A miracle, a miracle!”

Within three days, the entire Aolai Kingdom is in an uproar. Few know who Qiao San is, but the name “Fearless San” becomes legendary across Aolai. From an unknown day, the official road leading into Liumang Town sees the appearance of many heroes and gallant figures, along with beautiful women in luxurious carriages.

Far from Liumang Town, deep within the capital of Aolai Kingdom, the emperor holds no admiration for the rogue legend of Fearless San. The aged monarch, pale-faced with a long beard, frowns deeply in his study, where an oppressive, awe-inspiring aura suffuses the air.

“My lords,” the emperor addresses his two prime ministers, “the situation in Liumang Town grows increasingly intolerable. Even the capital is rife with rumors. Tell me, how should we deal with this?”

To his left and right, the two chancellors stand. The plump, slightly overweight left chancellor bows respectfully and replies, “Your Majesty, in my humble opinion, this is merely the mischief of a few ruffians—nothing to be taken seriously. We should simply ignore it!”

Before the left chancellor finishes speaking, the tall, thin right chancellor steps forward and says, “Your Majesty, this matter must not be taken lightly. Liumang Town is already teeming with thousands of hooligans. With this new uproar, their influence only grows stronger. If we do not act swiftly to prevent it, someone with ill intentions might exploit the situation, leading to grave consequences!”

“Hmm, the right chancellor speaks wisely. We must take action! My lords, do you have anyone to recommend? I wish to avoid large-scale military action that might incite unrest. Besides, this matter seems to involve spirits and deities—should we consult the national Taoist master?”

“Your Majesty,” the right chancellor replies, “there’s no need to trouble the national master. I recommend Beigong Ping, a renowned investigator from the famed Beigong family of demon hunters. Not only is he known for his hatred of evil and his brilliance in solving cases, but he also wields a family heirloom demon-slaying sword. He is widely known among the people as the ‘Yin-Yang Divine Hunter’—a perfect choice!”

The left chancellor is about to object, but the elderly king nods and commands, “Fine. Summon Beigong Ping to the palace!”

In the underworld, the Jiuyou Palace.

“Your Majesty, the Ten-Sun Pearl has been destroyed by the Celestial Realm!” A one-horned demon lord reports in detail. Regarding his earlier treachery against the Fox Queen, he skillfully reframes it as an unavoidable necessity. With a sigh of regret, he concludes, “Unfortunately, we failed to capture the Ghost Princess who absorbed the Ten-Sun Qi. However, I have ordered the ghost clan to search relentlessly. I believe we will soon receive good news!”

“There’s no need. Capturing a mere ghost girl serves no real purpose!” From within the dark mist, the voice of the Ten-Thousand Demon King echoes—neither angry nor pleased. The ethereal tone reverberates directly into the hearts of the assembled demons.

“Since the Celestial Realm destroyed my Ten-Sun Pearl, I shall ensure they never recover the ‘Heavenly Dao Eternal Sutra’!”

The tension between the heavens and the underworld remains thick and ominous, but now the howling winds shift their target!

The whereabouts of the ‘Earth Treatise’ and ‘Ghost Scripture’ remain unknown, but the path of the ‘Celestial Law’ is clear!

“Honghuang Purple Mansion Mountain, Taoyuan Jade Maiden, ‘Celestial Law Sutra’!”

The most fearsome demon in the underworld raises its bird-like head, silently reciting the words. Instantly, a terrifying killing intent spreads across the hidden realms!
