Chapter 204: The Sin of Immortality (1)

Fan Debiao shouted in alarm, swung his entrenching tool, and struck fiercely, but how could he alone possibly handle so many insects? Within moments, these disgusting creatures swarmed right up to everyone’s feet. Liu Dashao thought to himself, no matter how they dodged and turned, they still couldn’t escape these bugs. At this thought, he became so anxious that tears streamed down his face.

Fan Debiao was nearly driven mad with panic. He screamed at the top of his lungs, “Jackson, Yellow-hair, Big-ass Jesus, give me a couple bursts of gunfire! I’d rather be shot dead than bitten to death by bugs! Dashao, what the hell are you crying for? If you don’t shut up, I’ll end you myself!”

As soon as Fan Debiao finished speaking, everyone was engulfed in a sea of insects. Instantly, their bodies were completely covered. It was impossible to distinguish crawling from burning sensations. In the swarm, Fan Debiao rolled around, screaming like a slaughtered pig.

Everyone was submerged in the sea of bugs. Fan Debiao was already shrieking from bites, while the others remained silent—perhaps because the bugs had crawled into their mouths. At this moment, Liu Dashao had already prepared himself mentally to meet Marx. Whether it was fear or the bugs naturally numbing their bites, he felt no pain as they tore at his body.

Reflecting on past memories of family and friendship, tears streamed down his face. His heart ached with unbearable sorrow. Suddenly, his head burned with determination—he couldn’t die. He must resist. Without hesitation, he rolled upright and began slapping frantically at his body.

Suddenly, Liu Dashao felt something was off. The bugs were so aggressive, and even standing after being completely covered was already a miracle. Yet here he was, standing as if nothing had happened. A thought struck him—he checked his body repeatedly and, to his surprise, found not a single wound. On the hem of his clothes, a bug was crawling downward and, upon touching the ground, immediately darted toward the giant snake.

Seeing this, Liu Dashao was utterly baffled. Could it be that the bugs didn’t bite people? Then how to explain the two sets of human bones in the river? Besides, Jackson had seen them with his own eyes!

“What’s going on here?” Da Guoguo climbed up from the ground, patted off his clothes, and said. At the same time, Caiqingchong also stood up, muttering, “Damn it, what’s happening?” He looked at Liu Dashao with a confused expression. Liu Dashao waved his hand, indicating he didn’t know either.

Seeing that everyone was safe, Liu Dashao thought to himself—maybe the bugs really weren’t attacking people after all. Just now, Fan Debiao had screamed like a pig being slaughtered. Could it be that the bugs only bit him? What the hell had he done to deserve this? Liu Dashao felt a bit frustrated at the thought.

Liu Dashao immediately looked down. All the bugs on the ground had already rushed toward the giant snake.

Fan Debiao, Su Yougui, and Jackson were still rolling on the ground, letting out loud cries of “Aaaah! Owwww!” Liu Dashao examined their bodies and saw no injuries. The sight of the three of them was extremely comical.

Liu Dashao approached Fan Debiao and said, “Brother, calm down. What are you shouting for? Everything’s fine.”

Upon hearing Liu Dashao’s words, Fan Debiao and the others immediately stopped. They stood up and examined themselves from head to toe. Fan Debiao said, “What’s going on? Are the bugs full? They’re not eating people anymore?”

Liu Dashao thought for a moment and said, “Oh! Could it be the effect of Caiqingchong’s insect repellent? Maybe we’re invisible to them?”

After hearing this, Fan Debiao scratched the back of his head, then froze. “Holy crap, a miracle!” Jackson then exclaimed in English, “Oh my God!”

Hearing Fan Debiao and Jackson’s exclamations, everyone turned around and instinctively felt a chill. Before them, the giant snake was already covered in bugs. It was struggling fiercely, clearly locked in a battle with the swarm.

Fan Debiao said, “So the bugs’ real target was that big python all along! Damn it, they completely ignored us. Looks like they looked down on us!”

Liu Dashao replied, “Those bugs must be rushing to save their master. Didn’t you see Zhang Jiao get swallowed by the snake earlier? These bugs must be his subordinates, risking their lives to rescue him.”

Fan Debiao said, “Back in the day, Zhang Jiao used his own men to feed this python. Now the python has turned around and swallowed him. Looks like Zhang Jiao wasn’t very honorable.” As he spoke, Fan Debiao’s eyes widened, staring intently at the giant snake.

Liu Dashao turned around and saw that most of the bugs had already fallen off the snake. A long purple tongue was now sucking the bugs off its body. The snake’s tongue was incredibly long, freely moving across its body. However, the bugs’ strength was not to be underestimated. With thousands upon thousands of them, the snake was already covered in wounds, its scales falling off, and purple-black liquid continuously oozing out.

As the bugs were nearly wiped out, the next target would clearly be the group. Fan Debiao took out explosives from his pocket and said, “There’s not much time left. We must use the bombs now to finish them all.”

In the earlier panic, Liu Dashao’s mind had gone blank. Now, upon hearing Fan Debiao’s words, he suddenly remembered the large quantity of explosives in his bag. He quickly pulled them out and threw them into the middle of the stone slab. The giant snake opened its mouth and bit down on the explosives. Liu Dashao secretly rejoiced, thinking he had succeeded.

But after waiting a long time, there was still no explosion. Fan Debiao rushed over and shouted, “Are you stupid? You forgot to light the fuse, why are you in such a hurry to throw it?”

Upon hearing this, Liu Dashao finally snapped back to reality. He had been too excited and forgot to light the fuse before throwing the explosives.

Suddenly, a dark shadow lunged forward. Instinctively, Fan Debiao used the explosives to block it. Liu Dashao realized it was the giant snake, which had partially freed itself from the cave. With a single strike from the snake, Fan Debiao’s explosives were knocked away.

Suddenly, a streak of fire flew past Liu Dashao’s eyes. He focused and saw it was a burning stick. The stick flew straight toward the giant snake, and the snake opened its mouth and swallowed it.

Da Guoguo shouted, “Hit the deck!”

Before his voice faded, everyone on the scene had already thrown themselves to the ground. Then came a loud “Boom!” as the explosives detonated inside the snake’s mouth. Because Liu Dashao was too close to the explosion, his ears were ringing.

Standing up and looking at the giant snake, they saw that its head had been completely blown off, with only a section of its body hanging midair, swaying. Suddenly, Liu Dashao saw the snake’s body tremble. Looking closely, he noticed something moving in the middle of the remaining section. Before he could figure out what it was, a human head suddenly emerged. Upon closer inspection, it was actually the basketball-shaped head of Zhang Jiao’s mummy.

Liu Dashao shouted, “No good! The mummy isn’t dead yet! It’s coming out!”

Upon hearing Liu Dashao’s words, Jackson immediately grabbed the belt and threw it, successfully covering the mummy’s head. He quickly shouted, “Lighter! Hurry, hurry!”

After Jackson spoke, no one moved. It seemed that the previous burning stick had been their last source of fire. Everyone was speechless in the face of this situation when Fan Debiao suddenly shouted joyfully, “Haha! I’ve still got one more grenade!”

With that, Fan Debiao swiftly loaded the bullet into the rifle chamber, pulled the bolt back, aimed at the explosives bag, and pulled the trigger. With a “Bang!” followed by a “Boom!” a wave of heat rushed toward them. It seemed that the remaining explosives were still quite substantial.

After the explosion, thick smoke filled the air, and everything fell silent. But a faint sound of running water could be heard, like a small waterfall. Although Liu Dashao hadn’t examined the environment closely before, he was certain there had been no waterfall. So where was this water sound coming from?

As he was thinking, the sound of water grew louder. Before he could think further, a massive wave surged from the smoke and directly knocked Liu Dashao against the wall behind him. His mind suddenly clicked—he finally understood what was happening. But before he could react, another wave struck.

Wave after wave, each larger than the last, battered Liu Dashao, leaving him dizzy and disoriented. Finally grabbing onto a protrusion on the stone wall, another wave hit him, causing his hand to slip and fall back into the water. He struggled like this for over a minute before things slowly calmed down. Taking the opportunity, Liu Dashao grabbed another protrusion beside him, jumped upward, and finally emerged from the water. Still worried about more waves, he climbed several more meters upward before finally catching his breath.
