Chapter 75: Keen Intuition

“Coming back was pretty quick. I wonder if he ran back with his tail between his legs…”

Sitting cross-legged on the chair, sipping a cup of clear tea, Yu Yihan’s lips curved into a graceful smile as she glanced at Xiao Yufan standing beside her.

“Sorry to disappoint you, but that little task wasn’t difficult at all. It was a piece of cake. Please, next time don’t assign me such low-level tasks, okay?”

Seeing Yu Yihan’s smug expression, Xiao Yufan’s initial playful mood instantly vanished. This woman was simply his nemesis. Sometimes, he secretly questioned himself why he had fallen for her scheme and remained at the company.

“Oh really? So you’re now a great contributor to the company? Tell me, what reward do you want?” Yu Yihan did not argue this time, clearly already aware of the outcome.

“No need for any reward. I just hope, Madam President, that you can respect my privacy more in the future!” Xiao Yufan was not being confrontational. He couldn’t forget how Yu Yihan had previously investigated him. A grown man constantly being kept in check by a woman—he wondered how he could ever hold his head up high again.

Knowing that Yu Yihan would surely say something after hearing this, Xiao Yufan prudently walked straight out of the office. Lately, he had increasingly sensed a growing distance between them.

“Oh, by the way, that senior asked me to tell you he was very satisfied with me. See that? Your brother is naturally lovable wherever he goes…”

Before stepping out of the office door, Xiao Yufan suddenly recalled his earlier conversation with the old man and said boastfully, clearly wearing a self-satisfied expression.

Of course, Xiao Yufan didn’t see, as he left the top-floor office, that when his words echoed down the corridor, Yu Yihan’s face showed an unusual tinge of delicate blush.

“Damn, leaving so early, and no one to keep me company…” Looking at the now empty work area, Xiao Yufan finally realized it was indeed time to knock off. He had just been miserably reporting to his boss—this was probably the retribution for slacking off these past few days.

Back in Pingwu, Xiao Yufan had felt his eyelid twitching violently, an unreasonable and inexplicable twitch that made him restless.

He had a feeling something was going to happen—an intuition, sharp and clear, accompanied by an indescribable emotion that only he could understand.

“I hope nothing happens. Stop messing with me, okay? I can’t afford to lose anymore!” Xiao Yufan twitched his lips, forcefully pressing his eyelids with his fingers, trying to stop the twitching, but to no avail.

After a whole day of turbulence, Xiao Yufan felt an unprecedented fatigue. Upon returning to his rented apartment, he collapsed onto the bed. The past two days had been filled with too many events.

Sometimes, Xiao Yufan asked himself why he always lived such a tiring life, but no one ever answered. With his master’s financial support, he could have lived comfortably without worries. Yet he still chose to struggle, simply because his heart still burned with the same passion he’d had before.

Late at night, even the neon lights dimmed slightly. It was rare to see stars in the Beijing sky, but tonight, one star shone particularly brightly.

One thing Xiao Yufan firmly believed was that every departed soul would become a star, usually a general or emperor star, blessing future generations.

This time, instead of a prophetic dream, Haoran experienced a vivid scene. It was the first time he had dreamed of his grandfather…

“Yufan, Grandpa is leaving. Remember, some things are destined. You can’t escape them, just like life and death—they’re simply fated tribulations…”

As his grandfather’s figure gradually faded, a wave of sorrow welled up inside Xiao Yufan. What did his grandfather’s words mean? As tears soaked his pillow, all drowsiness vanished completely, and it was barely three in the morning.

“Grandpa must be fine. He’s always been strong and healthy!”

Xiao Yufan was afraid even to think about it. After waking up, he realized his fear—his grandfather and master had always spoiled him the most. He didn’t want anything to happen to either of them. Although he now knew that his master was actually his real grandfather, it didn’t change the deep feelings he held for both men.

Suddenly, his phone rang. Xiao Yufan’s heart skipped a beat. He had a vague premonition, and tears once again streamed down his face…
