Chapter 4: The Beauty’s Compromise

“Do you honestly expect me to believe that you, someone who drives a luxury car worth millions, not only took the crowded bullet train but also bought this rundown house just to leave me homeless? Are you some kind of tormentor sent from heaven?”

Looking at the icy expression on the woman’s face, Xiao Yufan had no choice but to steel himself and speak to her. After all, she now held his fate in her hands.

“I do as I please,” she replied coldly, clearly showing no interest in conversing with Xiao Yufan. The intense tension between them thickened the atmosphere even further.

“I can’t control what you do, but now that you’ve bought the house, where am I supposed to find a new place? How about I continue renting from you? I find it hard to believe that someone with such a fancy car would live here regularly!”

“I bought this place because I have no intention of renting it out, and even if I did, it certainly wouldn’t be to you! You have one hour to leave immediately, otherwise, the consequences will be on you!”

Yi Han had absolutely no sympathy for Xiao Yufan. The incident on the bullet train had already placed Xiao Yufan firmly in her ‘scoundrel’ category. There was no way she could live under the same roof as someone like him, not even for a minute.

Before Yi Han had even finished speaking, Xiao Yufan interrupted. “I absolutely will not move!”

Xiao Yufan plopped himself onto the sofa, clearly furious. Yi Han, in response, cautiously shifted herself slightly away.

Lighting a cigarette, he glanced around the familiar room, a deep sense of loss filling his heart. It had been three years since he had arrived in Beijing and had lived in this house ever since. In other words, this place held nearly all of his memories and had accompanied him through his hardest times. If there was one place in Beijing he was reluctant to leave behind, it was this temporary home.

He got up and walked deeper into the house, feeling increasingly resentful. It seemed as though all the recent misfortunes had conspired to strike him at once. Was he really going to have to leave the place he had lived in for three years? This house was the only thing he still clung to now.

The smoke filled the room, making it hazy, Yi Han stood up in disgust and walked to the door to get some fresh air. She could sense Xiao Yufan’s suppressed emotions but wisely chose to remain silent.

Suddenly, the wind outside picked up, splattering a few drops of rain onto the window. Soon, the raindrops grew heavier, and the room became colder. Xiao Yufan’s expression darkened further. It seemed like the saying was true: when it rains, it pours—even the weather seemed to conspire against him.

Inside the house, the only audible sounds were the two people’s clearly distinguishable breathing. Xiao Yufan glared angrily at the proud woman standing at the door. If he had been a little more unrestrained, he might have tackled her to the ground. But for now, he could only think about it.

“May I ask the young lady’s honorable name? I’d like to know which divine force is tormenting me!”

“That’s not important. What matters is that you now have only forty minutes left. If you’re still here after forty minutes, I won’t be responsible for what happens!”

If Xiao Yufan had been free of worries, he might have already exploded with anger. But now, with nowhere to go, he had no room to vent his temper. He definitely couldn’t move out today, so he needed to buy some time.

“Miss, it’s already so dark outside, and it’s about to rain heavily. I definitely can’t move out today. Can I leave my belongings here for a day while I leave temporarily?” Xiao Yufan tried his best to suppress his emotions, switching to a softer tone and attempting to appear pitiable.

Yi Han glanced outside before finally speaking with some leniency, “Fine, you don’t have to move out today, but when do you plan to leave?”

“Tomorrow. I’ll definitely move tomorrow…”

A long sigh echoed in Xiao Yufan’s heart. In such a vast Beijing, there was seemingly no place for him to settle down. The days ahead would likely become even more difficult.

“At what time tomorrow? I need an exact time!”

“Before three o’clock tomorrow afternoon!”

“You may leave now. If you haven’t moved out by three o’clock tomorrow, I will personally help you move your belongings out!” Yi Han’s tone was indifferent. Accustomed to being in positions of power, she rarely spoke as much as she had today.

Given the eviction notice, Xiao Yufan looked at the increasingly heavy rain outside with a pounding head. After hesitating for a moment, he finally walked toward the door. It was already clear that this woman had given him the maximum concession possible by allowing him to stay until tomorrow. He didn’t dare to hope that he could remain there even for tonight.
