Chapter 28: The Arduous Task

“What right do I have to stay in your company…” Instinctively, Xiao Yufan still blurted out these words. He didn’t want to become Yu Yihan’s employee without understanding clearly, or else wouldn’t his days of hardship begin?

“What? Are you still trying to escape…” Yu Yihan raised her eyebrows slightly, a faint, barely perceptible smile flickering at the corner of her lips. In her eyes, Xiao Yufan was already within her grasp.

Stunned for a moment, Xiao Yufan hadn’t expected the situation to deviate so far from his imagination, slipping completely out of his control. Yu Yihan actually wanted to keep him in the company—could it be that she merely wanted to use this opportunity to kick him out of the rented apartment?

Even though he suspected Yu Yihan might have ulterior motives, Xiao Yufan still felt tempted.

After calming down, Xiao Yufan realized that staying with this company could significantly benefit his future development.

“I can stay, but I don’t want this to involve anything else!” Xiao Yufan eventually compromised, although this was only on the condition that Yu Yihan wouldn’t kick him out of the apartment anytime soon.

“This is purely a work-related matter… However, since you lack work experience, you must complete the task assigned by the company to officially become one of us!” As if she had already anticipated Xiao Yufan’s words, Yu Yihan didn’t object at all. She took out several sheets of paper from her briefcase and handed them to him.

The other interviewers stared in disbelief at what Yu Yihan handed over—it was a contract with another major company in Beijing, and they never expected it to be given to someone who hadn’t even joined the company yet.

“This is an eight-million-yuan contract. However, due to some unpleasant issues during our negotiations with the other company, this contract has been put on hold. Your task is to finalize this contract. I think this shouldn’t be too difficult for an outstanding student majoring in political science and management, right?”

Yu Yihan looked at Xiao Yufan, placing both hands on the table in front of her, appearing extremely relaxed. She herself didn’t know why she was helping Xiao Yufan—perhaps she sensed that he wasn’t as simple as he appeared on the surface. As for why she had this feeling, maybe it was just a woman’s powerful sixth sense.

After glancing through the contract Yu Yihan handed him, Xiao Yufan’s expression darkened. Leaving aside the fact that an eight-million-yuan contract was quite a big deal for him, the unpleasant history between the two companies already made the entire matter extremely difficult.

“Aren’t you deliberately making it hard for me to stay here? An unfinished contract is basically useless, and they don’t have to stick to just one option!”

“It depends on the person. If you think you can’t do it, you’re free not to!” Yu Yihan’s tone was always precisely measured—not provoking Xiao Yufan while still managing to press his sensitive buttons.

At this point, Xiao Yufan had completely lost his temper. Yu Yihan wasn’t wrong—no matter how difficult something was, with determination it could be done. However, expecting him alone to complete an eight-million-yuan contract was simply too unrealistic.

But giving up now would exactly suit Yu Yihan’s plans. Besides, the matter wasn’t entirely without a clue, because on the contract, Xiao Yufan noticed that the other company was exactly where Mateng worked. Perhaps he could use him as a bridge.

“I hope I can accomplish this task, and that our CEO won’t go back on her word!” Gripping the contract tightly, Xiao Yufan didn’t want Yu Yihan to look down on him even more. He wanted to prove himself in front of her.

“Looking forward to your good news… I hope our company will have a place for you!”

Ignoring the envious, jealous, and suspicious glances from others, Xiao Yufan stood up directly and walked outside, continuously pondering how to complete this seemingly impossible task.

“I hope Mateng can help somehow. Otherwise, I really won’t have any chance left!” Xiao Yufan muttered softly, still clinging to a sliver of hope in his heart. He wished Mateng might assist him with this contract, although Mateng was merely a low-level administrator at that company.

“Wow, I didn’t expect you to be so impressive, staying in there for such a long time. Let me properly admire you!” As soon as he walked out of the building, Lin Pingle’s voice came over. This guy had actually stayed around after the interview ended.

Seeing Lin Pingle’s exaggerated gestures, Xiao Yufan felt some of the gloom in his heart dissipate. Regardless of how difficult the challenge Yu Yihan had given him might be, since he had already agreed, he would do his utmost.

“By the way, buddy, did you at least meet that beautiful female CEO? I tried my hardest earlier, but she didn’t even say a word!” Glancing with a lecherous gleam in his eyes, Lin Pingle approached again. Since Lin Pingle had stayed longer than him, he must know and have seen more than he did.

“More than just a meeting…” Xiao Yufan realized that his treatment was probably much ‘better’ than Lin Pingle’s. This fellow hadn’t even managed to hear a single word from Yu Yihan, while Yu Yihan had talked nonstop when facing him…

Thinking about this, Xiao Yufan muttered to himself, could it be that Yu Yihan had been waiting for him all along? How could things be so coincidental? He had sent his resume to so many companies without receiving a single response, yet only the company where Yu Yihan worked had given him a definite reply…
