Chapter 2: Have You Touched Enough?

Awkward…

Their eyes met, and Xiao Yufan seemed somewhat flustered. Yu Yihan’s body stiffened, and a faint blush spread across her icy face. If looks could kill, Xiao Yufan would have died countless times over at that moment.

“Finished feeling yet…?” Her cold voice carried a hint of anger. Yu Yihan was already on the verge of exploding, but her good upbringing helped her suppress her fury. Yet, when she asked that question, she realized belatedly that it might have sounded a bit off.

“No!” Without thinking, Xiao Yufan instinctively responded. He licked his lips, quickly withdrawing his hand. After all, they were on a train. Even if he wanted to act out, he didn’t want to stir up any trouble here.

Xiao Yufan’s shamelessness completely left Yu Yihan speechless. After a cold snort, she directly took out her phone and dialed.

“Big sister Liu, immediately change my ticket to a sleeper berth on the train I’m on—fast, I’m giving you five minutes!”

After hanging up, Yu Yihan glared at Xiao Yufan with resentment, then gathered her belongings and walked directly toward the next carriage. She really couldn’t bear to stay with this lecherous guy for even a minute longer.

Watching the woman leave, Xiao Yufan shrugged his shoulders. He hadn’t really intended to grope her, but he was too lazy to explain. Yet, as he thought back on it, the sensation had actually felt pretty good. He couldn’t help but admit that this woman’s figure was the best he had ever seen.

“Have I really fallen because of her…?” Looking at the empty seat beside him, Xiao Yufan gave a bitter smile. He knew clearly that there would never be any connection between them. Thinking about this, he once again recalled his recently ex-girlfriend, feeling a sense of confusion about the road ahead.

“Men are just so tired, men are just so tired…” Inappropriately, his phone rang at that moment. Xiao Yufan opened it with some irritation—it was an unfamiliar number.

“Who is it? What do you want!” Already in a terrible mood, Xiao Yufan’s tone was naturally harsh. He had few friends in Beijing; calls from strangers were likely either insurance salesmen or scammers. Though, considering his current state, no one would really think of trying to con him.

“I’m Lin Jiayao, don’t you remember me?” A woman’s voice came from the other end of the line. Xiao Yufan began searching his memory for the name Lin Jiayao.

“Of course I remember. What do you need?” Soon, Xiao Yufan recalled that over a month ago, he had indeed met this woman. Drunk, he had ended up sleeping with her in a haze, and since then, they had silently stopped contacting each other…

“I… I’m sick and need some money temporarily, plus part of a deposit fee needs to be paid, so…”

“So you’re calling me for money?” Xiao Yufan immediately understood the real intention behind Lin Jiayao’s sudden call. But he himself was also broke—where would he get money to give this woman? Besides, he didn’t believe he had any obligation to pay for what had happened before.

“I’m just borrowing money, I’ll pay you back. If I had any other options, I wouldn’t trouble you at all!”

“Just borrowing money, huh? I thought you were asking me to pay for it…”

“Even though my life isn’t great right now, I wouldn’t go that far! It’s just that there’s no one else I can ask for help in Beijing…”

Lin Jiayao’s voice sounded very angry, clearly hurt by Xiao Yufan’s words. She didn’t know why she had thought of this man when she was in trouble. Was it possible that just one encounter had made her fall for him?

“Alright, how much do you want…” Xiao Yufan forced himself to ask, he couldn’t just hang up. Besides, Lin Jiayao sounded so sincere that he couldn’t bear to refuse.

“First… borrow me… ten thousand yuan?”

“What the hell, ten thousand yuan? You might as well sell me and see if I’m worth that much!”

Upon hearing the amount, Xiao Yufan immediately got angry. In three years in Beijing, he had barely saved up less than ten thousand yuan. Lin Jiayao was asking for ten thousand at once—wasn’t she treating him like a gullible fool? He wouldn’t even spend that much during a few days of indulgence at some “literati” gatherings.

Hearing Xiao Yufan’s furious tone, surprisingly, Lin Jiayao didn’t get angry. Once she confirmed that his emotions had calmed down a bit, she continued.

“You know, in Beijing, you’re the only friend I have. I’m only borrowing ten thousand yuan from you. I’ll pay you back once the company’s signing fee comes through!”

Feeling the desolate emotion in her voice, Xiao Yufan didn’t know what he was thinking. Looking outside at the sky, he felt numb—wasn’t this forcing him?

“I’ll try to raise the money. When do you need it?”

Perhaps it was the last bit of sympathy in his heart that stirred him, but he really wanted to help this pitiful woman. After calming down, he said into the phone.

“The company’s deposit must be ready by Tuesday. As for the medical treatment, it can wait a bit…”

Upon receiving his response, Lin Jiayao was visibly excited. If she hadn’t truly had no one else to turn to, she wouldn’t have bothered Xiao Yufan. Yet when he actually agreed to her request, she found her heart warming.

After closing his phone, Xiao Yufan completely lost his temper. His gaze became even more vacant. He began to doubt whether coming to Beijing had been the right decision. So many graduates dreamed of making a name for themselves in Beijing, but how many were actually living at the very bottom of this city?
