Chapter 50: Lin Xue

“Oh my God, he must be an incredibly powerful expert if he’s friends with Master Kuihu!!”

Yao Ye was deeply shocked in his heart. Looking at Wang Yong, he felt as if he were staring at an imposing mountain, leaving him breathless. In reality, however, Wang Yong was no martial arts expert. It was just that Yao Ye had poor physical condition and a psychological shadow toward Wang Yong, which made him feel as if half his body had gone completely numb.

“Little brat…”

Wang Yong had no interest in wasting more words with Yao Ye. He sneered coldly, then walked out of the police station while calling Shui Miao on his phone.

“Shui Miao! I was having coffee with an old friend just now, that’s why I didn’t pick up your call.”

“Yeah, it is pretty late, but I couldn’t refuse my old friend’s kind invitation. By the way, I’ve found someone suitable for you today. I’ll have her go to Zhonghai City to meet you sometime.”

“Hehe, why be shy? It’s only natural for men and women to marry when they grow up. Her name is Chu Miaoyi, and she’s also a beautiful female police officer…”

Wang Yong already completely understood the arrangement of the police department.

On the third-floor balcony of the police station, Chu Miaoyi and Captain Lin were standing by the window, watching Wang Yong leave the courtyard.

Seeing Wang Yong walk out the gate, Chu Miaoyi immediately turned red-faced and frowned, asking Captain Lin, “Uncle Lin, how does Wang Yong know everything? How does he even know I’m going to Zhonghai City?”

“He only knows what we want him to know,” Captain Lin said, turning toward his office.

Chu Miaoyi followed closely behind, asking, “What do you mean? Did you set up this whole scenario?”

“It’s not me who set this up. It was Deputy Director Yao Jun from the provincial bureau who arranged this scenario to gain Wang Yong’s trust and then find an opportunity to locate the Five Directions Disc.” Captain Lin turned back toward his office, took a sip of tea, and added, “You’d better start packing. Tomorrow, you’re going to Zhonghai with Yao Ye to investigate Shui Miao’s background.”

“What! Me and Yao Ye?”

Chu Miaoyi exclaimed in surprise. “Uncle Lin, I have a feeling that Deputy Director Yao isn’t a good guy. Yao Ye is clearly his relative, a total thug who somehow got into our police force…”

“Enough, these are orders from above. We just need to follow them.” Captain Lin interrupted Chu Miaoyi’s words. Glancing outside, he lowered his voice and said mysteriously, “Don’t worry, I understand your concerns. I’m not entirely confident about Deputy Director Yao either. I’ll arrange for an expert to accompany you.”

“An expert!? Who?”

Chu Miaoyi knew her uncle cared for her, but she had no idea who this expert might be.

“You’ll find out tomorrow. For now, it’s a secret.” Captain Lin smiled slightly and checked the time again. “Alright, it’s getting late. Go ahead and finish up for the day.”

“Uncle Lin, just give me a hint! Otherwise, I’ll definitely have insomnia tonight.”

Chu Miaoyi tugged at Captain Lin’s arm, refusing to let go.

Helpless against Chu Miaoyi’s persistence, Captain Lin sighed and smiled. “Lin Xue has returned from the competition. How about having her go with you?”

Lin Xue, Captain Lin’s daughter, was once the national women’s Sanda champion. Born from a special forces school, she could have been assigned to an excellent job, even one protecting national leaders in the capital. However, during graduation, she angrily beat the son of an official so severely that he became permanently disabled. Because of this incident, she lost a great opportunity. After staying at home for two years, Captain Lin used his connections to get Lin Xue assigned to his team. In this national police competition, Lin Xue was the top ace of the Huanghai City police force and won the overall individual championship. The reason Captain Lin kept checking the time was because Lin Xue was probably arriving at the station by now.

“Oh! Sister Lin is back! That’s great, great!”

Chu Miaoyi shouted excitedly.

Ever since childhood, Chu Miaoyi had admired Lin Xue the most. Although Lin Xue was a girl, she was tough and masculine. She refused to attend a regular school and insisted on going to a martial arts school instead. Even so, she never neglected her academic studies. At seventeen, she was honored as the city’s top scholar in both arts and martial arts. At eighteen, she was directly admitted into the special forces academy. She was a shining example of a woman who could outshine men. In Chu Miaoyi’s eyes, Lin Xue was a legend.

“Alright, alright, don’t be so loud. Be careful that Yao Ye doesn’t hear you and things change. Knowing you, you won’t be able to sleep tonight anyway. How about this—come with me to the station to pick her up. We can talk on the way.” Captain Lin lowered his voice. He knew Yao Ye wasn’t a good person, but there was nothing he could do. After all, his uncle was the deputy director of the provincial bureau.

As soon as Captain Lin left the police station, Yao Ye stepped out from a corner. He had just overheard Chu Miaoyi saying that Sister Lin was back, and his mood immediately soured. He muttered to himself angrily, “Damn it, today’s been terrible luck. I finally convinced my uncle to get me this assignment, and that old fox Lin had to scheme against me again. If Lin Xue really goes along, how can I ever make things happen with Chu Miaoyi? No… I can’t let this slide. I need to ask my uncle for more help.”

Yao Ye’s eyes darted around as he plotted his next move, then left the police station as well.

Zhonghai City

After finishing his shower, Shui Miao lay in bed resting, but his mind was still occupied with thoughts about Liu Hongmei.

At first glance, she was a sharp and clever woman.

Women like her usually had wealth, power, and lived carefree lives with everything they needed. It would be extremely difficult to get such a clever woman to reveal her secrets.

He had to find her weakness…

When dealing with ordinary people, Shui Miao’s first thought was always to pretend to be a spiritual medium. This method worked extremely well, and he had used it many times with great success.

However, the women who usually sought help from “spiritual mediums” were generally those whose lives were unsatisfactory.

And Liu Hongmei clearly lived a very satisfying life…

“Wait a minute!”

Shui Miao suddenly thought of something. He recalled standing in the hallway earlier today and seeing a small room near the entrance. There had been a faint grayish aura coming from inside. Could there be something strange in that room?

After thinking for a while, Shui Miao came up with a plan. Early tomorrow morning, he would go and carefully examine the feng shui of Liu Hongmei’s house. If there really was something suspicious in that small room, he would try to redirect that negative energy toward Liu Hongmei, or find a way to disrupt the feng shui of her room. He wanted to scare her, make her paranoid and nervous. Then he could step in as the “spiritual medium” and things would become much easier.

For now, this was the only plan Shui Miao could think of.
