Chapter 489: Nine Cats’ Resentful Killing Array

After learning the situation, Captain Lin was also taken aback.

For safety reasons, Long Xingyun was treated like a dangerous criminal, even shackled at the feet.

Despite this, Lin Xue still felt uneasy. As two officers escorted Long Xingyun past her, she landed a fierce punch to his waist, knocking him unconscious on the spot.

Captain Lin could only helplessly shrug. On second thought, though, sometimes violence really can solve many problems.

“Shui Miao, let’s go. Room 406 at Chunhua Hotel on Jiefang Road. If there’s no manual there, he won’t live to regret it!”

Lin Xue was dead serious—theconsequences would be severe.

Captain Lin led the team in person, and together they rushed to Chunhua Hotel.

To Shui Miao’s surprise, the officers had brought along some heavy weaponry—mosquito foggers, the all-powerful “Total Annihilation” insecticide, fly swatters, and more. The hotel staff were left completely stunned, mouths agape, wondering what exactly these cops were up to.

“Bang!”

The door was violently kicked open by the fierce Lin Xue. As it swung open, there was a sharp “clack,” and an iron rectangular cage fell from above the door frame, releasing swarms of black flying insects. Without hesitation, the team unleashed a barrage of insecticide, quickly retreating down the hallway as fog filled the air.

The toxic mist was unbearable for humans, let alone for insects.

Half an hour later, the group re-entered the corridor, finding it littered with the corpses of insects and ants.

Several officers, who had cotton stuffed in their ears to protect against the insects’ desperate resistance, now replaced it with strips of paper soaked in medicine. With one hand tightly covering their noses, they searched the room thoroughly, treating the situation like a major threat.

Naturally, the results were fruitful.

Besides Long Xingyun’s insects and descendants, many innocent bedbugs and cockroaches had also perished.

Still, Shui Miao felt a bit disappointed.

There was no manual on Feng Shui techniques in the room, although there were several notebooks. Unfortunately, the handwriting was so messy and playful that it was nearly impossible for a normal person to decipher. Even a doctor writing out a prescription would be humbled by such illegibility.

However, one hand-drawn sketch caught Shui Miao’s attention.

It was a Taiji (Yin-Yang) symbol, drawn quite formally. In the symbol, the black dot within the white half was labeled “sheng” (birth), while the white dot within the black half was labeled “si” (death).

Shui Miao was puzzled. Normally, he would expect the black half of the Taiji to represent Yin, and the white half Yang.

Yet Long Xingyun’s drawing suggested something different.

Shui Miao couldn’t help but ponder—Yin for birth, Yang for death? Could it be interpreted as Yin generating Yang, and Yang generating Yin?

It was a difficult question to fully grasp.

Lin Xue also found some money and identification documents in the room. According to the ID, the man was surnamed Long, but his given name was not Xingyun—it was Feng.

Moreover, Long Feng’s address book contained contact information for many officials, all high-ranking provincial cadres.

Given the wide scope of the case and its deep implications, Captain Lin quickly ordered Chu Miaoyi to take Shui Miao away.

Lin Xue also came out, since there was nothing more she wanted in the room.

The three of them went to a street food stall and had a late-night meal.

Meanwhile, the hotel staff were left in a mess. Seeing the insects littering the floor, they began grumbling—either they got a raise, or they’d quit. Forced to act, the boss lady—who usually lorded over her staff with an iron fist and was notoriously stingy—was compelled to lower her proud stance, pick up a broom, cover her bright red lips, and endure her churning stomach as she cleaned up. But within minutes, she collapsed dramatically over the bathroom sink, doubled over and vomiting uncontrollably.

After finishing their late-night snack, Shui Miao went to the cemetery that very night.

At this late hour, most people wouldn’t dare come here.

Shui Miao couldn’t sleep, so he came to take a look. Tomorrow morning he had to leave for Zhonghai City early—he didn’t have time to waste.

Chu Miaoyi went home. After a long, exhausting day, she was completely worn out.

Lin Xue, however, was still full of energy and accompanied Shui Miao to the cemetery gates.

The gate was locked, and the on-duty officer Xiao Zhang was watching a movie. Upon seeing the police and Shui Miao arrive, he hurried out to greet them and personally escorted the two inside.

The cemetery was eerie and filled with the buzzing of insects.

Unfazed, Shui Miao shone his flashlight and carefully examined the tombs. He noticed that around this particular area, the tombs were eerily silent—no insects chirping. Sniffing the air, he detected a faint stench of decay. Following the smell, he poked around with a spade and found that in the north-facing patches of weeds around each tomb, the grass was withered and sparse, not as lush as elsewhere.

This detail had escaped his notice during the day.

He dug a bit deeper and uncovered the rotting corpse of a dead cat.

In front of each of the nine tombs, he found the same thing—each had a decaying dead cat buried in the northern patch of grass.

Elsewhere, everything seemed normal.

“I understand now…”

Shui Miao dropped the spade and started walking toward the cemetery gate.

Lin Xue quickly followed, asking, “Shui Miao, what do you understand?”

“I deduce that Old Huang was used by Long Feng and then killed as a scapegoat. Logically, Long Feng should have transferred a large sum of money to Old Huang within the past two months. You should check the bank records—you’ll probably find evidence there,” Shui Miao furrowed his brow. “Also, there’s a saying that cats have nine lives and are spiritually gifted. But Long Feng did the opposite—he used nine dead black cats to sever the Feng Shui of Yao Jun’s ancestral grave. The accumulated resentment and negative energy of nine dead cats must be immense! That’s why the Yao family has been plagued with misfortunes one after another. The so-called evil formation is actually a vengeful killing array formed by these nine dead cats.”

“If that’s the case, then Long Feng didn’t tell a single truth. So the story about He Bin’s family of five must also be real?”

Lin Xue’s mind cleared after Shui Miao’s explanation.

“Exactly. I think it’s all fabricated. I’ve carefully recalled everything Long Feng has said and done. He’s not only cunning and unpredictable, but also deeply deceptive. Also, he was punched by my grandfather. In all my life, I’ve never seen my grandfather hit anyone. He must have gone too far for my grandfather to take such action. This proves he’s a complete fraud, a master of lies. And his connections are extremely strong—perhaps even powerful enough to have bewitched those officials into protecting him at all costs.”

“How can that be allowed? We must act before those officials find out and silence him!”

Lin Xue, ever the vengeful type, sounded more like a tough mob boss with a strong sense of loyalty.

Shui Miao nodded. “I want to see him again, and test his abilities using a Feng Shui formation.”

“Great, I’ll take you.”

The prospect of another supernatural spectacle made Lin Xue instantly excited.

At that moment, Xiao Zhang asked, “Master, what about the tombs here?”

“Don’t worry. I’ll call Yao Kang right away. Since I’ve accepted payment from his family, I’ll make sure to finish the job.”

With that, Shui Miao took out his phone and called Yao Kang. After explaining the situation, he and Lin Xue hurried back to the police station.

Upon entering the station, Shui Miao asked Lin Xue to gather some yellow paper to draw talismans, preparing to set up a grand Five Elements Feng Shui Formation.
