“Master, this sword seems pretty good.”
The young monk handed the sword to Master Wubian. Wubian picked it up and examined it carefully. The sword was crystal clear, seemingly carved from jade. Its weight was just right—not too heavy, not too light. When swung, it emitted a warm, soothing energy. When he slashed it at a steel bed, there was no sound. The sword sliced straight through the steel, yet the bed remained completely undamaged.
“Uh…”
Master Wubian, who had initially shown little interest, suddenly became alert. Such a treasure was undoubtedly extraordinary.
“What a rare treasure!”
Shui Miao walked over, raising his thumb in admiration. “Master, could this be a celestial weapon?”
Shui Miao was convinced in his heart that this middle-aged Taoist must have been sent by the overseer of the Yu Xu Sect.
“Out, out, out! This has nothing to do with you.”
The young monk hurriedly pushed Shui Miao away.
Shui Miao’s words had reminded Master Wubian of a way to test the sword. The Nine-Ringed Cane was a sacred treasure passed down through generations, a holy weapon used to subdue demons and evil spirits. If the sword were demonic, it would be exposed or even destroyed upon contact with the cane. If it were a celestial weapon, it would remain unscathed, just as when it cut through the steel bed.
With this thought in mind, Master Wubian turned toward the Nine-Ringed Cane. However, instead of striking the cane immediately, he first slashed at some bedding and other objects. The sword sliced through everything effortlessly without leaving any damage. Holding the sword up to the light, Master Wubian noticed it had no edge and looked quite dull. He gently pressed his finger against the blade, only to find that it pierced straight through painlessly, leaving a warm and pleasant sensation.
Excited, Master Wubian swung the sword at the Nine-Ringed Cane. The movement was gentle, but the cane snapped in two with a loud clang!
“Ahh!”
The sword had actually cut through the Nine-Ringed Cane! Master Wubian was horrified. That cane had been a sacred treasure passed down through countless generations at Nanshan Temple, and now it was broken! Horrified, Master Wubian dropped the sword and rushed to pick up the broken cane. The young monk, seeing this, no longer focused on pushing Shui Miao away, but instead hurried back to grab the sword protectively, as if fearing it might be stolen.
Shui Miao returned just in time to see golden misty gas pouring out from the broken cane. He recognized it immediately as the Golden Holy Spirit. Without hesitation, Shui Miao concentrated his mind and controlled the spirit to flow out, passing through the steel bed and bedding, finally gathering in his palm.
In an instant, Shui Miao had drawn all the Golden Holy Spirit into his hand and transferred it into his inner realm.
“Get out! This has nothing to do with you. If you don’t leave now, I won’t be polite anymore!”
The young monk turned around and saw Shui Miao standing at the door again, peeking inside. He became furious and pointed the sword at Shui Miao, forcing him to leave the train compartment.
“What’s going on? Is this your house? Can’t I even take a look?” Shui Miao had just hidden the Golden Holy Spirit and now had his sights set on the sword. The monk had been opposing him repeatedly, so if he didn’t fight back, the monk might think he was a weakling. “Hmph! You call yourself a monk? You’re more like a bandit! You stole a Taoist’s sword and now you’re trying to drive me away. A monk like you should be ashamed to wear the robes of a Buddhist. The Buddha himself will cast you into the eighteen levels of hell, where you’ll never be reborn!”
Shui Miao’s words were harsh—tantamount to a curse for a monk.
“You bastard! Are you asking for death!”
The young monk, clearly hot-tempered, raised the sword and charged at Shui Miao.
Shui Miao immediately turned and ran, shouting as he went, “Murder! Smelly monk is killing people! Help, police!”
Shui Miao’s spiritual powers were strong enough to easily deal with the young monk. He had intentionally provoked the monk to draw him away, creating an opportunity to get his hands on the sword. Of course, Shui Miao had no intention of keeping the sword itself—he wanted to extract the special spiritual energy within it for his own use.
A monk chasing someone with a sword? Unheard of!
The train attendant noticed the commotion and quickly called the police on board. When the officers arrived, they pointed their guns at the monk and ordered him to drop the weapon. Seeing the guns, the monk finally calmed down, dropped the sword, and raised his hands in surrender. Seizing the moment, Shui Miao rushed forward, activated his spiritual energy, and forcibly drew out the sword’s spiritual power. The once-gleaming sword turned dull and gray. Shui Miao quickly handed it to the police, who examined it briefly before it crumbled into dust and scattered into the wind.
“What the…?”
The police were stunned.
“Wow! What kind of weird thing was that!” Shui Miao quickly said, “Officer, just now in that carriage full of monks, a group of them were beating up a Taoist. I just took a quick look, and this monk chased me with the sword. The sword was fine just a moment ago, but now it’s turned into this! Those monks must all be evil!”
“Right! They must be evil! This sword is fake. Let’s go check it out.”
Fearing they might be asked to compensate for the sword, the officers quickly gathered their colleagues and rushed into the carriage filled with monks. There, they saw a group of monks beating a Taoist, while the old monk sat crying over the broken Nine-Ringed Cane. The officers immediately stopped the beating. The Taoist had been beaten so badly he looked like a dead pig, lying motionless and unconscious on the floor. Even immortals could be knocked out! Shui Miao secretly felt delighted. Pretending to be helpful, he volunteered to carry the Taoist to the infirmary, but along the way, he secretly began absorbing the Taoist’s spiritual energy.
Since cultivating the Soul Devouring technique, Shui Miao’s ability to absorb spiritual energy had greatly improved.
As he absorbed the Taoist’s energy, he encountered a warm, pure force. The train attendants carrying the Taoist noticed his body getting lighter and lighter until his clothes turned into ashes and scattered away. His appearance changed from a middle-aged man to a teenage boy.
“Damn! This guy must be a demon!”
Startled, the attendants dropped the young boy on the floor. Shui Miao turned around and saw the young Taoist lying there, completely naked. Without hesitation, Shui Miao took off his shirt to cover the boy’s lower body. While pretending to help, he placed his hand on the boy’s dantian and secretly activated his spiritual energy, greedily absorbing the remaining immortal energy inside. At the same time, he spoke aloud to mislead everyone’s thoughts.
“Wow! This kid really is a demon Taoist! But still, we can’t leave him naked like this. It’s shameful. Officer, please go get a blanket to cover him. Later, we should hand him over to the authorities for study so they can figure out how he became a demon!”
No one had ever seen anything like this before, so they followed Shui Miao’s lead without question.
After some hesitation, the train attendant finally brought a blanket. Shui Miao stood up with his jacket, helped wrap the boy up, and then returned to his own bunk to rest. The young Taoist, sent by the overseer of the Yu Xu Sect, had suffered greatly. Not only had his immortal energy been completely drained, but Shui Miao had also injected a Devouring Spirit into his dantian to prevent him from returning to the Immortal Realm. Unless he had some secret technique to save himself, he would be permanently stuck in the mortal world as an ordinary human.
Shui Miao had no mercy for those who tried to harm him.
Back at his bunk, Shui Miao immediately closed his eyes and entered his inner realm.
Inside, a swirling vortex was rotating.
This vortex rotated exactly like the various energies in his dantian, but it had never transformed before. Now, the warm immortal energy he had just absorbed had begun to merge into the vortex, interacting especially with the Yin Holy Spirit, causing the vortex to grow larger and more complex.
At the same time, spiritual energy from the inner realm flowed into his dantian, refining his cultivation and making his spiritual power more and more pure.
Shui Miao had not previously noticed the subtle changes in his dantian. But now, as this warm energy entered his inner realm, he realized something was happening.
“Could this warm immortal energy be the Yang Holy Spirit?”
Examining the bright, white energy inside himself, Shui Miao suddenly suspected. If it really was the Yang Holy Spirit, then his luck was truly beyond belief!
Yes! It must be the Yang Holy Spirit!
This disciple of the Yu Xu Sect was from the Immortal Realm, which was different from the mortal world. The Immortal Realm was rich in Yang Holy Spirit, so this must be it!
Shui Miao was overwhelmed with excitement. Now, he had already obtained the Yin, Yang, Metal, Wood, and Water Holy Spirits. If he could also obtain the Fire and Earth Holy Spirits, completing the Five Elements and Yin-Yang, the vortex in his inner realm would rotate rapidly and might even undergo a transformation.
“Wait a second…”
A sudden thought struck Shui Miao. His inner realm was intangible, while his dantian was real, yet the two were connected. Could the inner realm be used as a training ground for cultivation? Could cultivation techniques be tested in the inner realm first, before being applied in reality, thus avoiding unnecessary risks?
The more he thought about it, the more convinced he became that this idea was feasible.
Unable to contain his curiosity, Shui Miao decided to immediately transfer some Yin and Yang Holy Spirits into his dantian to test his theory and see what kind of miraculous changes might occur.
