Chapter 83: The Great Trap

“Are you truly planning to surrender?” Jia Tianlong felt somewhat surprised.

“It is surrender, but as for which of our two sides surrenders to the other, that remains to be seen!” Sect Leader Wang narrowed his eyes slightly, casually resting his hand on the hilt of his sword as he spoke slowly.

“What do you mean by that?” Jia Tianlong’s expression darkened. He then waved his hand, signaling an encirclement.

Immediately, the Iron Guards behind him surged forward, forming a semicircular formation to surround Wang Juechu. Simultaneously, they drew crossbows from their backs, aiming the gleaming blue-tipped bolts directly at him.

It seemed that with just one command from Jia Tianlong, they would not hesitate to unleash a volley of bolts, killing Wang Juechu on the spot.

“Do you think that after our sect moved its headquarters to Sunset Peak, we never once considered the possibility of an enemy invasion that we couldn’t resist?” Sect Leader Wang ignored the crossbows entirely, his tone carrying a sinister, threatening edge.

Hearing this, Jia Tianlong felt a slight sinking in his heart, and a sense of foreboding crept into his mind. He did not interrupt the other’s words but continued to listen with a grim expression, wanting to hear exactly what the other had to say.

“The one who relocated our sect here was the seventh-generation sect leader, Sect Leader Li. He was not only a man of great talent and vision but also skilled in the arts of construction and mechanisms, truly a genius of his generation.” At this point, Sect Leader Wang paused briefly, a look of admiration appearing on his face. He then continued, “Sect Leader Li chose Sunset Peak as the location for our headquarters for two reasons: first, the peak’s treacherous terrain makes it easy to defend and difficult to attack, an excellent defensive stronghold; second, because deep within the mountain lies another world—a massive, naturally formed stalactite cave. This cave is incredibly vast, occupying nearly two-thirds of the mountain’s interior. Upon seeing this marvel, Sect Leader Li conceived a plan. Using his knowledge of construction and mechanisms, combined with the cave’s natural layout, he transformed the entire mountain into a giant natural trap. Now, as long as someone activates the pre-set mechanisms, the entire mountain will immediately collapse, burying everyone on the peak.”

After saying this, Sect Leader Wang fell silent, sweeping his icy, death-like gaze over the densely packed crowd before him.

After hearing this, Jia Tianlong was momentarily stunned. Naturally, he did not believe the other’s claims, but for the moment, he did not know how to refute the threatening words.

Meanwhile, others on the peak who had clearly heard these words couldn’t help but grow restless. They whispered among themselves, and some of the more quick-witted individuals even began edging toward the only path down the mountain, ready to flee at the first sign of trouble.

“Silence! Anyone who moves or makes noise will be executed without mercy!”

Jia Tianlong quickly regained his composure. Seeing that his own people were actually becoming unsettled by the other’s mere words, he couldn’t help but feel irritated. He knew that if he didn’t act immediately, the situation would quickly spiral out of control, so without hesitation, he loudly issued the order for silence.

Jia Tianlong’s command was efficiently carried out by his trusted subordinates. After executing several timid individuals who had tried to flee, the rest were thoroughly intimidated, and the unrest subsided.

However, Jia Tianlong understood clearly that this calm was only superficial and temporary. If he couldn’t quickly prove that the other’s words were lies, neither his own gang members nor those from other factions would feel safe staying there. At the slightest sign of trouble, they would likely all flee.

“You don’t expect us to believe your words based solely on your say-so, do you?” Jia Tianlong suppressed the anger in his heart, preparing to personally expose the other’s deception.

“Of course not. I have evidence to show you with your own eyes. But listen carefully: if anyone tries to flee or continues the attack after seeing my proof, I will order the mechanisms to be fully activated, ensuring we all perish together.” Wang Juechu’s words were filled with killing intent, his threat unmistakable.

Jia Tianlong carefully observed the other’s expression, trying to find any flaws. Unfortunately, the man opposite him maintained an icy demeanor throughout, showing no signs of weakness or guilt.

This made Jia Tianlong wonder inwardly: Could it be that the other’s words were not deceitful? Was there really such a doomsday plan?

“Activate the second mechanism!” Wang Juechu suddenly turned his head and shouted the command toward the main hall.

Then he turned his head to the side, focusing on a smaller stone hall and ignoring Jia Tianlong entirely.

Seeing the other’s contempt, Jia Tianlong couldn’t help but flare up in anger. Suppressing his rage, he secretly resolved that if the other’s evidence failed to satisfy him, he would immediately order his men to turn Sect Leader Wang into a human pincushion.

However, Wang Juechu’s strange behavior of intently watching the stone hall also caught the attention of the Wild Wolf Gang members. They couldn’t help but focus their gaze there, curious to see what unusual event would occur.

Just as the Wild Wolf Gang members were growing increasingly uneasy, no one noticed that on the outskirts of the dense crowd, two individuals dressed in Broken Water Flow attire were whispering to each other with their heads lowered.

“Han Li, do you think what our sect leader said is true or false? Could Sunset Peak really be hollow? I’ve been here several times before and never noticed anything unusual! Is Sect Leader Wang deceiving them to buy time? Or…”

One of the young men bombarded the other, who remained silent, with a stream of questions, seemingly eager for the other to explain the doubts in his heart.

These two were none other than Han Li and Li Feiyu, who had originally been on their way to Elder Li’s residence.
