Chapter 55: The Third Person

“Your mind is far too active. If it were allowed to run wild, it would give me a headache,” Doctor Mo said unhurriedly.

He then extended an arm and effortlessly lifted Han Li, striding out of the room.

Outside, the scorching sun still blazed fiercely. To Han Li, it felt as though he had been inside for a long time, but in reality, it had only been a brief moment.

Doctor Mo carried Han Li as casually as if he were an object, leisurely making his way through the herb garden beside the house until he reached a remote stone wall. The giant man followed silently behind him like a shadow, never leaving his side.

Through his eyes, Han Li clearly saw that a previously unseen stone house had been built before him at some point. This stone house closely resembled the meditation chamber Han Li had used before, entirely constructed from stacked stones. The only difference was that the outer walls had been simply whitewashed with lime.

Judging by the materials used, although the construction was rough, it was evident that the stone house had been completed not long ago. If Han Li still had his sense of smell, he would likely have detected the pungent odor of limewater.

“Iron Slave, stay outside. If any stranger approaches this house, kill them without exception,” Doctor Mo issued a bloody order, clearly fearing that an unexpected incident might ruin his plans.

The stone door was easily pushed open, and without hesitation, Doctor Mo walked in, naturally closing the door behind him. It seemed he was quite familiar with this room, and it was almost certainly built by his own hands.

The stone house was enclosed, without a single window. After the stone door was shut, Han Li expected it to be pitch dark inside, impossible to see anything. Instead, he found the room filled with various oil lamps and candles of different thicknesses. The small space was brilliantly illuminated, with lamps and candles piled high, making it as bright as day.

The scene inside left Han Li speechless. Of course, even if he had questions or wanted to speak, he couldn’t do so.

But none of that mattered. What made Han Li most uneasy was a strange pattern several meters in diameter drawn in the center of the stone house. The pattern seemed to be made from some kind of powder, though Han Li couldn’t approach to examine it closely and thus couldn’t identify what it was.

Around the edges of the pattern, several fist-sized pieces of green jade were embedded. The jade, crystal clear under the candlelight, was clearly a rare treasure. Any connoisseur who saw such fine raw jade being wasted on a stone floor would likely lose sleep over it for nights.

As Han Li stared in fascination from within his body, he heard a “thud” — his body was thrown into the very center of the pattern, landing face-up on the ground, leaving him with only the ceiling to look at.

Han Li grew anxious. At such a critical moment, he couldn’t see Doctor Mo’s movements, which made him uneasy. But he was at the mercy of others and had no choice. He comforted himself with the thought that at least he wasn’t face-down; otherwise, he wouldn’t even have the ceiling to look at.

“Pfft… pfft… pfft…”

A series of strange sounds followed. Han Li was puzzled at first but soon noticed the light dimming significantly. He realized Doctor Mo had extinguished many of the lamps and candles, though he couldn’t fathom the deeper meaning behind this action.

After a moment, Doctor Mo suddenly spoke:

“Are you sure this method will work? You must know, I’ve staked everything on it.”

His voice was icy cold, leaving Han Li bewildered. Was he speaking to him? The tone didn’t seem to match. But aside from the two of them, there was no one else in the stone house. Had Doctor Mo already forgotten that Han Li was still stuck with that damned yellow paper and unable to speak?

“Absolutely no problem. Have the techniques I previously taught you, like ‘Seven Ghosts Soul Devouring Art’ and ‘Mind Stabilizing Talisman,’ ever been false?” A strange man’s voice suddenly echoed in the room. The voice sounded young, as if it belonged to someone in their twenties.

Han Li felt numb. The strange events he had experienced today far exceeded all the bizarre tales he had heard in previous years. Another voice suddenly appearing no longer seemed all that remarkable.

“Hmph! Even if they worked before, what good is that now?”

Doctor Mo’s use of profanity surprised Han Li. In the past, this wouldn’t have been a big deal, but now, with Doctor Mo’s handsome appearance, hearing such coarse language made Han Li find a bitter amusement in it.

“What if you deliberately held back at the final step, leading me into a trap? Who would I turn to then?” Without waiting for the young man to respond, Doctor Mo continued, “Don’t tell me you’ll vouch for it. Remember, you were supposed to be dead, and I was the one who killed you. How could you not hold a grudge? How could you not secretly deceive me?”

Doctor Mo fired off questions one after another, leaving no room for rebuttal, as though he were venting all his insecurities.

After that, aside from Doctor Mo’s heavy breathing, there was a long silence. For a while, no response came from the young man.

Hearing these words, Han Li felt a chill in his heart. This suddenly appearing young man had actually died once before. Was he a ghost? Moreover, from their conversation, it seemed the extraordinary techniques Doctor Mo had used earlier were obtained from this person.

“Then what do you want me to do? I’ve already sworn by my ancestors, parents, entire family, and even my entire clan. Isn’t that enough to satisfy you?” the young man finally retorted indignantly.

Han Li’s heart sank. This young man was so deranged as to use so many of his closest relatives in a vow just to gain Doctor Mo’s trust. He was clearly a cold-hearted and ruthless individual. Any trace of sympathy Han Li had felt for him vanished instantly.

“True, there’s nothing I can do to you. Your body is destroyed, and only your spirit remains here, never to see the light of day. It’s not much better than being completely annihilated,” Doctor Mo said, his tone softening, evidently not wanting to escalate the conflict further.
