Han Li felt a chill upon hearing this, but what happened next struck an even deeper blow to his psyche, making him realize how much of the world remained unknown to him.
As Doctor Mo shouted, the seven strange blades inserted into his body began to tremble. The demon heads emitted a low, buzzing hum that grew increasingly loud and shrill, as though they were coming to life and struggling to break free from his body.
Seeing the blades seemingly disobey his commands, Doctor Mo grew flustered and exasperated. He muttered something under his breath—too softly and quickly for Han Li to catch—but it likely wasn’t anything pleasant.
Doctor Mo stood up, paced around the room, and finally stamped his foot in frustration before reluctantly extending his index finger into the gaping mouth of one of the demon heads.
Something incredible happened: the demon head, which should have been an inanimate object, clamped its mouth shut, sinking its thick fangs into the offered “delicacy” and began to suck gently.
Doctor Mo’s body trembled slightly, as though he were enduring immense pain. The black mist obscured his face, so Han Li couldn’t see his expression, but he imagined it must have been twisted in agony.
After what felt like the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, the demon head finally seemed satisfied. It loosened its grip, and the buzzing sound vanished.
Doctor Mo repeated the process with each of the remaining demon heads, feeding them one by one before reluctantly withdrawing his finger.
Once this was done, Doctor Mo repeated the hand seals from earlier, chanting under his breath before shouting once more, “Soul-Devouring Art of the Seven Demons!”
This time, the seven strange blades did not tremble or make any unusual sounds. Instead, they simultaneously opened their eyes, revealing blood-red pupils. Their mouths gaped wider, and their cheeks puffed out as they began sucking vigorously at the air.
The ghostly mist on Doctor Mo’s face seemed to sense impending doom. It surged violently, its tentacles thrashing wildly, but it was all in vain.
Seven thin black threads were drawn from the mist, tracing elegant arcs through the air before dropping precisely into the seven waiting demon mouths, where they were gradually devoured.
Han Li was utterly dumbfounded. Seated directly across from Doctor Mo, he had a clear view of everything happening before him—even each tooth on the demon heads was visible in stark detail.
For the first time, Han Li had touched upon a world beyond his own, and he was completely shaken by this mystical power. The bizarre silver blades, the eerie demon heads, and the sinister black mist covering Doctor Mo’s face—all of these phenomena defied logical explanation and overturned everything he had ever known. Until now, Han Li had only been half-convinced about tales of gods and ghosts; he would never have believed anything he hadn’t witnessed with his own eyes.
Yet now, scenes that belonged only in legends were unfolding vividly before him. How could he not be terrified?
His mind was in chaos. Faced with such inhuman power and trapped as a prisoner, he had no idea how to respond.
Gradually, the ghostly mist on Doctor Mo’s face thinned, growing fainter and more diluted as the demon heads devoured it. Soon, only a faint, wispy layer remained, barely veiling his features.
Now, Doctor Mo’s face was vaguely visible. But when Han Li caught a glimpse of his restored appearance, his jaw dropped in shock, and for a long moment, he couldn’t close it.
He had been shocked many times today, but nothing compared to what he was seeing now—it was so unbelievable that he lost all composure.
The face emerging from the black mist belonged to a robust man in his thirties, in the prime of his life. Yet, from the strikingly familiar brows and eyes, it was unmistakably still Doctor Mo—only decades younger.
The firm, well-defined face, the commanding eyes that exuded authority even without anger, and the faintly sneering lips—it was undeniably the face of a strikingly handsome man. Such a mature, masculine appearance would be lethally attractive to women, whether young girls full of dreams or lonely wives trapped in deep courtyards. With just a slight gesture, they would likely throw themselves into his arms, falling deeply and irreversibly.
Seeing this face, Han Li felt an inexplicable urge to punch it—it seemed this handsome visage was enough to provoke envy in any man.
As the last traces of black mist were sucked into the demon’s mouth, Han Li recalled Doctor Mo once mentioning that he was originally only in his thirties. An accident during a treatment had allowed an evil force to drain his vitality over time, leaving him aged and frail.
It seemed Doctor Mo hadn’t lied about that. This youthful appearance must be his true form, though the method of restoration was beyond incredible.
Now Han Li noticed that Doctor Mo’s rejuvenation wasn’t limited to his face—his body and hair had changed as well. The jet-black hair and upright posture indicated he was in the golden years of his life, his physical strength and energy at their peak.
“But if Doctor Mo had a way to restore his youth, why go to such lengths against me?”
Han Li was puzzled. Shaking off his astonishment, he reminded himself that he was still in danger. His mind began racing, analyzing everything in an attempt to find a way out.
He noticed that the rejuvenated Doctor Mo seemed somewhat dazed, standing motionless and silent.
After a long while, Doctor Mo finally raised a hand, examining the smooth skin on the back of it with the look of someone rediscovering a long-lost treasure. Then he closed his eyes, pressed his palm against his cheek, and gently rubbed it, as though savoring the return of his youth.
This narcissistic display made Han Li uncomfortable. He couldn’t understand the overwhelming emotions Doctor Mo must have been feeling at that moment.
“Doctor Mo, you seem to have recovered. If you no longer need me, could you let me go? I would be willing to serve you faithfully in the future.”
Han Li couldn’t contain himself any longer. He still didn’t know what Doctor Mo planned to do with him. Though aware that Doctor Mo was unlikely to simply release him, he feigned ignorance, probing for information in hopes of learning his fate sooner rather than later.
