Chapter 249: The Trial

With each swing of the fan, thick purple mist would surge forth, darting straight toward the green-robed freak. After seven or eight such swings, the purple mist had already enveloped the opponent so densely that not even wind or rain could penetrate, forming a massive purple sphere!

Meanwhile, the green-robed freak concealed his entire body within a cloud of black gas, keeping the green mist at bay.

The black gas and green mist continuously churned and tore at each other, as if both were alive. But no matter how one looked at it, the green mist, under the control of the Yan family member, held the clear upper hand, compressing the black gas into an increasingly smaller space.

“My cousin’s Bone-Melting Treasure Fan is one of our Yan family’s renowned top-tier magical instruments. The poisonous mist it releases can dissolve flesh and bones upon the slightest contact—it’s incredibly powerful. However, my cousin always refrained from using it easily in the past, considering it too vicious. But now that he’s serious, he’s brought it out immediately, showing his determination not to let the opponent escape unscathed!” Yan Yu explained excitedly to Dong Xuan’er beside him, his expression animated.

“Oh! Is this fan really that famous? I wonder how it compares to the famous Wind-Thunder Fan—which one is more powerful?” Dong Xuan’er let out a light laugh, her lips curling slightly, revealing an enchanting, fox-like charm.

“In terms of pure power, this fan might not be as strong as the Wind-Thunder Fan, but any cultivator with a wood spiritual root can wield it with ease. Unlike the Wind-Thunder Fan, which requires both wind and thunder spiritual roots to unleash its full power! That’s why the Bone-Melting Fan is even more valuable than the Wind-Thunder Fan.” Yan Yu, his heart stirred by Dong Xuan’er’s alluring smile, struggled to suppress his wandering thoughts and explained carefully.

“Nonsense. How can an ordinary top-tier magical instrument like this compare to the Wind-Thunder Fan? If it has even one-tenth of its power, that would be impressive! In fact, I doubt this fan is even as powerful as my Purple Light Cymbals.” Senior Brother Feng, seeing Dong Xuan’er and Yan Yu chatting and laughing together, showed a hint of jealousy and deliberately spoke mockingly.

“You dare look down on the magical instruments crafted by our Yan family? Fine, then let me see the power of your Purple Light Cymbals!” Yan Yu, angered by the other’s belittlement of the Bone-Melting Fan, couldn’t help but want to test his opponent.

“Good, I’d like to see the magic power of the Yan family’s esteemed disciple!” Senior Brother Feng sneered and agreed without hesitation.

For a moment, both seemed to have forgotten the existence of Han Li, their common enemy.

“Ah, let’s just forget it. I was only asking casually! There’s no need to get so angry. Can’t both of you just take a step back?” Dong Xuan’er appeared to be mediating on the surface, but in reality, her words only made the two men more unwilling to show weakness in front of their beloved. Neither wanted to lose face before Dong Xuan’er.

Of course, it was unlikely for the two to immediately engage in a duel. After all, their rivalry was mostly driven by jealousy, and much of what they said was spoken in anger. They still had many reservations. However, if Dong Xuan’er were to provoke them further, the situation could easily escalate!

Although Han Li was still focused on the battle, he heard everything happening nearby clearly. He couldn’t help but shake his head inwardly. He felt that this willful girl was truly a troublemaker, causing chaos wherever she went. No wonder Hong Fu had always urged him to keep a tighter rein on her.

However, from their appearances, neither Feng nor Yan Yu seemed like foolish people. Why did they now appear so impulsive and combative? Could it be that Dong Xuan’er’s fox-like charm was so potent that even Foundation Establishment cultivators were unconsciously influenced by it?

The thought sent a chill down Han Li’s spine.

But Han Li couldn’t be bothered to reason with the two infatuated men. What did it matter to him whether they lived or died?

Still, Han Li found it strange. No matter how much Dong Xuan’er flirted and enchanted other men, she held no charm for him. He felt not the slightest bit moved by her.

In fact, not only was Han Li puzzled by this, Dong Xuan’er was equally frustrated. For some reason, her fox-like charm had no effect on the person she disliked the most. Otherwise, she would have long since wrapped him around her finger, instead of being threatened by him throughout their journey.

Just as Han Li and Dong Xuan’er were lost in their own thoughts, the situation on the battlefield underwent a dramatic change.

The black gas enveloped by the green mist suddenly began to contract and thin out. In the blink of an eye, it revealed the green-robed man hidden within. Several skulls around him opened and closed their mouths, voraciously sucking in the surrounding black gas—the very cause of the thinning black gas.

The Yan family member on the opposite side, though unsure of his opponent’s intention, saw that the other had voluntarily weakened his defense and seized the opportunity without hesitation. Pointing his treasure fan, he directed the green mist to swarm forward while the black gas was unable to resist.

“Brat, you think you can show off with a bit of poison mist in front of me? How ignorant! Little do you know, we are the ancestors of poison manipulation!” The green-robed man let out a strange laugh.

He then extended a palm and swiftly struck the top of each skull. The skulls immediately swelled to the size of cartwheels, their pale white bones faintly shrouded in a layer of black gas, making them appear even more sinister and eerie.

They quickly absorbed the remaining black gas completely, then opened their mouths wide again and began sucking in the green mist that had been blocking them. With each mouthful they swallowed, they grew larger, as if nourished by the mist.

Yan Yu’s cousin on the opposite side was startled by this. He hurriedly tried to retract the green mist with his treasure fan, but it was already too late. Only about one-third of the poison mist could be withdrawn; the majority had been devoured by the opponent’s skulls.

The green-yellow fan surface turned dull and lifeless, causing the Yan family member great distress. He knew the Bone-Melting Fan’s power would be significantly diminished from now on.

Before the Yan disciple could recover from the blow of his magical instrument’s damage, the enlarged skulls, now brimming with ferocity under the green-robed man’s control, let out eerie wails and shot forward. In an instant, they were upon him, startling him into hastily reaching for his storage pouch.

But several skulls simultaneously opened their mouths and shot out several pitch-black beams of light, which merged into a colossal ray. It pierced through the protective yellow wind of the Yan disciple, knocking him unconscious with a “thud.” He fell into a coma and plummeted from the sky.

Seeing the outcome decided, the other Yan family disciples naturally wouldn’t let their clansman fall to his death. One immediately flew out to catch Yan Yu’s cousin and brought him back.

“The Ghost Spirit Sect’s mystical techniques are truly exquisite. Our Yan family has lost four out of five matches. Shall we proceed to the sixth round?” An elderly Yan elder with sharp, bright eyes stepped forward and addressed the Ghost Spirit Sect coldly.

“Let’s call it a day. Why not save the remaining five matches for when the Yan family’s Life-Death Hall disciples arrive? I’ve long heard of the renowned Yan family Blood cultivators!” From the opposite side, the leader of the Ghost Spirit Sect emerged—a mysterious man wearing a silver ghost mask. His voice was gentle, elegant, and resonant, suggesting he was a very young man.

“Very well! Since the Young Sect Master has such interest, our Yan family will naturally accompany you to the end! Let’s adjourn for today.” The elder was initially surprised but quickly agreed without backing down. He then flicked his sleeve and turned to leave.

The Young Sect Master paid no mind to this, letting out a light laugh before turning gracefully and leading his team away.

The other observing cultivators, having enjoyed quite a spectacle, also dispersed silently without a word.

Han Li shook his head slightly. Just as he turned away, he heard Yan Yu muttering to himself, “How is this possible? My cousin actually lost? He’s one of the top experts in our Martial Hall!”

“What expert? He was defeated in just a few moves!” Senior Brother Feng curled his lip, not missing the chance to undermine his rival.

“You?” Yan Yu’s face flushed with anger, and he was about to erupt when Dong Xuan’er’s next words immediately lifted his spirits.

“Brother Yan Yu, I’ve been traveling for several days and am quite tired. Could you arrange a comfortable room for me to rest? As for any other activities, let’s save them for tomorrow.” Dong Xuan’er suddenly stretched her slender waist, speaking with a lazy, charming demeanor.

“Of course! Junior Sister Dong, let me take you to the quarters specially prepared for female cultivators. Junior Brother Han and you, sir, please make yourselves at home.” Yan Yu said happily, with a somewhat triumphant air.

Han Li smiled faintly and raised no objections.

He had safely brought Dong Xuan’er to Yanling Castle, and that completed his task. As for other matters, he couldn’t control them, nor did he want to. With a casual remark about wanting to look around, Han Li left the group alone.
