Chapter 207: Slaying the Flood Dragon and the Spoils of War

Under Han Li’s control, the Golden Light Brick Talisman Treasure manifested its physical form moments later. A golden brick floated mid-air, radiating brilliant light.

Han Li’s spiritual power surged like a flooding river, continuously pouring into the brick. Soon, one-third of his mana had been drained, making the golden light above his head even more dazzling—so bright it was almost blinding!

While exerting her full strength to restrain the Flood Dragon, the young woman kept a close watch on Han Li’s movements. When she saw the golden brick materialize, her anxious heart finally settled. She knew Han Li hadn’t lied—this talisman treasure could indeed break through the demon beast’s defenses.

The Flood Dragon seemed to sense the impending danger. Its claws gripped the ring fiercely, struggling with increasing intensity and causing the young woman’s Vermilion Bird Ring to tremble slightly. Her expression changed, and she urgently shouted to Han Li, “Hurry! It’s about to break free!”

Hearing this, Han Li didn’t hesitate. He pointed at the talisman treasure above his head, and the golden brick shot toward the Flood Dragon. Mid-flight, it suddenly enlarged to the size of a small mountain and slammed down fiercely onto the beast.

The struggling Flood Dragon knew the situation was dire. Its green eyes flashed with ferocity as it opened its mouth and spat out the dreaded purple core liquid once more, directly countering the descending golden brick and halting its fall temporarily.

Both the young woman and Han Li were startled. Han Li could only watch helplessly as he controlled the brick, but the young woman bit her lip, took a yellow bead from her robe, and hurled it at the beast locked in struggle with the golden brick.

With a soft “pop,” the bead exploded upon touching the Flood Dragon’s head, releasing a cloud of yellow mist that enveloped its skull. The Flood Dragon panicked and roared, and the stream of purple liquid ceased.

Without the purple liquid to resist it, the slightly dimmed golden brick immediately crashed down, striking the Flood Dragon’s head squarely. A deafening explosion followed as a blinding golden light illuminated the entire underground world before fading back to normal.

The golden brick shrank back to its original size and returned to Han Li’s side as a beam of golden light.

Only the critically wounded demon beast remained in the air.

The Flood Dragon’s head was half-shattered, one eye completely blown out of its socket, while the other oozed blood continuously. The entire creature looked utterly miserable.

It seemed this demon beast wouldn’t last much longer.

Overjoyed, the young woman quickly retrieved a small crystal vial from her storage pouch. Murtering an incantation, she pointed at the Flood Dragon, and several wispy black tendrils shot out from the vial, coiling eerily around the beast’s body.

Soon, a miniature green Flood Dragon, identical in form to the original, was forcibly extracted from its body. Though it struggled fiercely, it was gradually pulled into the vial.

After sealing the vial and examining the mini Flood Dragon inside, the young woman couldn’t hide her delight, her entire face beaming with joy. She then glanced thoughtfully at the lifeless Flood Dragon corpse.

Watching her actions, Han Li immediately understood she had captured the Flood Dragon’s primordial spirit. Though unsure of its exact use, her elation suggested it was incredibly valuable.

The young woman recalled her Vermilion Bird Ring into her body, and the Flood Dragon’s corpse plummeted from the air, landing right before Han Li.

“Since I’ve taken its primordial spirit, the body is yours. After all, we defeated it together!” she said generously, landing beside Han Li.

Han Li glanced at the satisfied young woman, then down at the Flood Dragon’s body, inwardly grumbling, “Right, we both know how tough this turtle-shelled beast is. She probably just wants to see me struggle!”

With that thought, a cold glint flashed in his hand as he summoned the massive silver sword—the incredibly powerful artifact once wielded by the barefoot man.

Without a word, Han Li swung the sword down hard. With a “thud,” the blade sank three inches into the Flood Dragon’s flesh. Though it wasn’t deep, it had breached the beast’s defenses, leaving the young woman gaping in astonishment.

Amused by her reaction, Han Li continued wielding the sword, preparing to strike again.

“Wait, let me see that sword!” the young woman said slowly, her astonished eyes fixed on the silver blade, startling Han Li.

“What are you afraid of? As a Core Formation cultivator, I’ve seen all kinds of treasures. It’s just that this sword is a bit peculiar, and I’m curious!” she retorted, rolling her eyes at his hesitation.

Though she appeared young, the subtle charm in her gaze made Han Li’s heart race uncontrollably.

“This sword does have some issues. After I obtained it, I couldn’t figure out how to wield it. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been so helpless against the Flood Dragon earlier,” Han Li explained reluctantly, handing the sword over.

He didn’t want to antagonize her, especially since she seemed confident about escaping this place despite their predicament. Her lack of caution suggested she saw through his thoughts and wasn’t worried about a sneak attack.

“Tsk, tsk! Just as I thought. What a waste!” she exclaimed after examining the sword, her expression one of regretful extravagance.

“What do you mean?” Han Li asked, sensing she had uncovered something.

“Nothing much. The reason this sword is so sharp is that it’s infused with Silver Essence—a material usually reserved for refining magic treasures. And there’s quite a lot of it here, enough to make its quality rival ordinary treasures!” she said dismissively, returning the sword to him.

“Silver Essence?” Han Li was slightly puzzled.

“You wouldn’t understand even if I told you! It’s a precious material refined from large quantities of pure silver using the true fire of Core Formation cultivators or higher. My Vermilion Bird Ring also contains some,” she said impatiently.

Han Li grumbled inwardly, “If I knew, I wouldn’t be asking! Why else would I ask?”

Ignoring her reluctance to elaborate, he pressed on, “Why could its previous owner wield it in battle, while I can’t even control it?”

Annoyed by his persistence, she coldly replied, “The original owner refined it using a Heart-Refinement method—an unorthodox technique that makes it unusable by others. Unless it’s melted down and reforged, it’s useless to anyone else!”

Han Li’s expression darkened. He had high hopes for this sword, and if what she said was true, those hopes were dashed.

“Useless? Not necessarily. It’s still practical now, isn’t it?” he retorted coldly after a moment of silence. Without ceremony, he swung the silver sword, hacking apart the Flood Dragon’s body with fierce strokes.

The young woman frowned at his brutish, butcher-like behavior and took a few steps back to distance herself. Then, she calmly said, “Although this Flood Dragon has only just evolved to the second rank, its entire body is full of precious materials! Its skin can be refined into superior armor, its horns and claws are ideal for top-tier artifacts, and its residual core liquid is essential for certain rare elixirs.”

For some reason, she explained everything in great detail, leaving Han Li both surprised and uneasy about her intentions.

“What a pity! If this Flood Dragon had evolved to the third rank, the core in its head would have sparked fierce competition among Core Formation cultivators. Whether for elixirs or artifacts, it would have been extremely useful!” she sighed suddenly.

“Core? What color is it? Is it this?” Han Li asked, pulling a fist-sized red sphere from the Flood Dragon’s abdomen and holding it out to the astonished young woman.

“Oh? What’s this? Did you take it from the Flood Dragon?” she asked in surprise, moving closer for a better look.

“It does look similar! But this Flood Dragon is only second rank—it shouldn’t have a core. Besides, Flood Dragons are water-attribute evil serpents, so their core should be blue. Let me feel it and see what’s going on,” she said, unable to resist taking the soft sphere from Han Li’s hand and stroking it a few times.

But at that moment, the sphere suddenly burst open without warning, enveloping both the young woman and Han Li in a vast cloud of pink mist.
