The burly man in midair, who was manipulating the phantom of the Guangyin Treasure Mirror, was startled upon hearing the sound. His divine sense swiftly swept through the black mist below.
The scream had unmistakably come from one of the Bai Family disciples he had brought. Under normal circumstances, with his cultivation level, he could instantly discern everything within the formation. However, with his power severely suppressed and the formation’s barriers in place, he could only vaguely sense that one of the six disciples’ auras had abruptly vanished.
Before the yellow-haired man could react in his shock and fury, two more agonized screams echoed from the black mist, followed by the eerie disappearance of two more Bai Family disciples.
“Senior, save me!”
A figure suddenly burst out of the black mist—a Bai Family disciple screaming desperately—rushing toward Luanlong Tianjun, who was closest to him.
But in this sea of flames, even at full speed, his movement was sluggish. Luanlong Tianjun merely twitched slightly, remaining motionless.
The Bai Family disciple, who appeared elderly, wore an expression of utter despair. Before he could even curse Luanlong Tianjun, a streak of white light shot out from the black mist, unimpeded by the flames, and struck him with lightning speed.
A scream later, the old man’s protective demonic aura dissipated, his head tumbling to the ground. From his severed neck, another indistinct, glowing white head emerged, its blood-red eyes coldly locking onto Luanlong Tianjun.
The moment Luanlong Tianjun met those eerie eyes, a bone-chilling terror surged through him, freezing his very blood. In panic, he flicked his sleeve, summoning a bone shield wreathed in ghostly wails to block his front.
Meanwhile, two more figures—Bai Yunxin and another Bai Family disciple—fled the black mist in terror, one rushing toward Han Li, the other toward Hanqi Zi.
The grotesque head on the old man’s neck mechanically glanced at them before splitting into two streaks of white light, shooting toward the fleeing duo. In a flash, the lights were right behind them!
“Senior, save me!”
“Senior Han!”
The two screamed in terror, summoning multiple defensive demonic artifacts—some forming layers of black mist, others swirling into radiant halos—to shield themselves. Yet the white light seemed intangible, piercing effortlessly through their defenses and merging into their bodies.
Instantly, their heads rolled, replaced by two more glowing white heads.
The speed of the white light was such that neither Han Li nor Hanqi Zi could intervene in time. Their expressions darkened slightly.
Had they not been restricted by the sea of flames and unable to use movement techniques, saving the two Bai Family disciples would have been trivial. But now, they could only watch Bai Yunxin and the other perish.
Han Li glanced at the headless corpse of the old man, now shriveled and drained of flesh and blood—identical to the Bai Family disciples’ remains found earlier in the mine. Clearly, the Bai Family members left behind had met the same gruesome fate at the hands of this unknown monster.
However, the two split monsters seemed aware that the others were not as easy to deal with as the six they had just killed. Though they now occupied the bodies of the Bai Family disciples, they merely glared coldly at Han Li and the others, making no further moves.
This display of intelligence only deepened the wariness of Luanlong Tianjun, Hanqi Zi, and the other seasoned demons.
After witnessing the white light’s terrifying ability to split, the yellow-haired man and the purple-haired woman exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with shock and fury. After a quick exchange via sound transmission, the yellow-haired man shouted to Han Li, “Fellow Daoist Han, you and my sister handle this monster first. Brother Luanlong, Hanqi Zi, and I will deal with the demonic beast below. Once it’s dealt with, we’ll join you against that thing!”
No sooner had he spoken than the purple-haired woman’s white battle armor flared brilliantly, repelling the surrounding flames as she flew toward Han Li.
Hanqi Zi, his eyes glinting coldly, wordlessly summoned over a dozen icy orbs, parting the sea of flames as he joined Luanlong Tianjun and the yellow-haired man.
With such formidable foes at hand, there was no time for debate. The icy-faced demonic sovereign tacitly accepted the yellow-haired man’s proposal.
Han Li smiled faintly, offering no objection. Only when the purple-haired woman floated within ten yards of him did he transmit a message: “Fellow Daoist Fu Tian, this monster is bizarre. Do you know its origins?”
“To my shame, I’ve never encountered such a creature before,” she replied hesitantly. “But I once read an ancient text describing a type of demonic spirit that resembles this thing. I can’t be certain if it’s truly the same.”
“Demonic spirit?” Han Li’s expression hardened. Though her explanation was vague, it was clear this entity wouldn’t be easily dealt with.
“Indeed. I suspect this monster may be a demonic spirit born from the spiritual energy of this mine. If so, it’s formless, impervious to blades, immune to water and fire, and likely unaffected by the mine’s suppression of movement techniques. What puzzles me is why it’s allied with the demonic beast. We must be extra cautious!”
“I see. Then let’s test whether it’s truly impervious to blades.” Han Li’s eyes glinted coldly as he observed Bai Yunxin’s possessed corpse. With a flick of his wrist, a three-foot azure sword materialized in his grasp. He slashed it through the air toward the monster.
The sword vanished instantly, only to reappear as a gleaming azure thread above Bai Yunxin’s headless body, slicing downward like a gentle breeze.
Silently, the white light head split cleanly down the middle—a testament to Han Li’s mastery of the sword-to-thread technique at the late Body Integration stage.
A piercing shriek erupted from the bisected head, disorienting to the soul. Bai Yunxin’s corpse withered instantly as the two halves of the head flew out, merging back into a single white streak that shot toward Han Li.
Unfazed by the sonic attack, Han Li narrowed his eyes as the light closed in unimpeded by the flames. With a flick of his sleeve, dozens of tiny azure swords shot forth, transforming into threads that slashed through the streak.
The light froze mid-air, its surface crisscrossed with faint azure lines before shattering into fragments. Yet, to Han Li’s astonishment, the pieces instantly reassembled, continuing its charge.
“Truly impervious to blades. It must indeed be a demonic spirit born of this mine,” Han Li murmured calmly. His other sleeve flicked, releasing a silver flame that spiraled toward the reformed white light.
With a thunderous boom, the silver fire engulfed the streak, flames leaping several feet high.
The purple-haired woman, who had been monitoring the other demonic spirit while observing Han Li, was stunned.
The white light, now wrapped in silver flames, let out an agonized shriek, thrashing wildly as if trying to extinguish the fire.
