Chapter 1401: Setting an Ambush

The woman surnamed Xiao, enveloped in the five-colored radiance, was discussing something with Han Li when the eerie howl suddenly pierced the air. Her expression tightened instantly, and with a swift hand seal, the five-colored glow around them flared brilliantly, vanishing in a flash as she and Han Li disappeared from the spot.

Their speed had increased by two to three times!

Han Li, however, remained motionless, his eyes slightly narrowed as if sensing something, allowing the woman to carry him forward in flight.

Despite the sudden surge in speed, within just a few hundred miles, the howls behind them grew distinctly clearer.

At the same time, Han Li spoke calmly:

“Those two creatures are now less than three hundred miles away, and their speed far surpasses ours. At this rate, we won’t be able to hold them off for long. The further we are from the two Yaksha Kings when we engage, the better. Let me lend you a hand.”

As he spoke, Han Li shrugged his shoulders, and one of the feathered wings on his back shimmered, releasing a phantom of a massive azure roc that merged into the surrounding five-colored radiance.

The entire glow trembled violently before their speed surged yet again, transforming into a faint blur that streaked forward in an instant.

“Thank you, Brother Han!” the woman surnamed Xiao exclaimed gratefully.

“This technique consumes a great deal of spiritual power. I can’t sustain it for long, nor can we flee too far. Otherwise, the two Yaksha Kings might intervene,” Han Li replied with a shake of his head.

“Of course. It’s best if Brother Han conserves his strength for the battle ahead,” the woman agreed with a nod.

Han Li gave a bitter smile but said nothing more. Truthfully, even if these Savage Slaves were formidable, he could force one back or even destroy it by unleashing hundreds of Gold Devouring Beetles at the cost of severe spiritual depletion. But with two Savage Slaves and the two Yaksha Kings watching from afar, recklessness was out of the question.

With Han Li’s assistance, the two Savage Slaves behind them, despite their astonishing speed, could no longer close the distance.

In the blink of an eye, they had chased each other for thousands of miles.

When Han Li deemed it sufficient, he withdrew the azure roc phantom, and the two came to a halt.

Moments later, they hovered silently in mid-air, their gazes fixed intently on the distant sky.

Suddenly, flames erupted on the horizon, and amid roars, two blood-red clouds, each several zhang in size, materialized and shot toward them like lightning.

Without hesitation, Han Li rubbed his hands together and flicked them outward. Two golden arcs, as thick as bowls, crackled through the air like thunderbolts, striking toward the blood clouds.

The clouds twisted with uncanny agility, evading the arcs effortlessly and continuing their charge without pause.

Han Li’s expression darkened. With a swift hand seal, the golden arcs abruptly curved like serpents, doubling back to strike the blood clouds from behind.

*Thud! Thud!*

The muffled impacts sent a chill down Han Li’s spine. The thick golden arcs sank into the blood clouds without any visible effect, as if swallowed by mud.

His face paled.

The two blood clouds flashed to within ten zhang of them, the stench of blood so thick it was almost palpable.

Strangely, Han Li remained motionless, while the woman surnamed Xiao’s eyes gleamed coldly as she activated a spell.

Before them, two massive flood dragon heads, each a zhang in size, lunged from the radiance, biting off half of each blood cloud in a single snap. The remnants of the clouds scattered and dissipated.

Elated, the woman turned to speak to Han Li—

But his pupils abruptly contracted, his voice icy as blue light flickered in his eyes:

“Be careful! These things are incredibly fast. Don’t be fooled by their movements.”

“What?” The woman froze, then followed Han Li’s gaze.

High above, dozens of zhang away, two blood-red creatures—half-wolf, half-ape—had appeared unnoticed. The moment the blood clouds were destroyed, they had used their terrifying speed to escape unseen.

Their movements were so swift and silent that the woman had missed them entirely. Only Han Li, with his Brightsight Spirit Eyes, had detected them.

The creatures stood silently on either side, their bat-like wings spread, their crimson bodies glistening. Their ape-like heads and wolf-like bodies were covered in fangs, their forked tongues flickering like snakes. Their crimson eyes gleamed with cunning cruelty—clearly, these were highly intelligent monsters.

These were the so-called Savage Slaves.

Though the woman had heard of them, seeing them in person sent a shiver down her spine.

“My Divine Devilbane Lightning had no effect on them,” Han Li remarked coolly. “It seems they weren’t forged from evil spirits. Conventional yang-attribute techniques likely won’t work. We’ll have to fight them head-on.”

With that, he touched the back of his head, releasing a surge of gray radiance that swirled into a protective barrier around him. A small black mountain flickered within the glow, exuding an aura of profound mystery.

The woman’s expression hardened as she chanted incantations. The space before her trembled violently as three more flood dragon heads emerged, followed by the full body of the Five-Headed Flood Dragon—now several times larger than before.

The five spectral heads swayed menacingly toward the Savage Slaves, growling low in warning.

But one of the Savage Slaves struck first.

With a flap of its crimson wings, it transformed into a blood-red thread and vanished.

In a flash of bloody light, it reappeared above Han Li and the woman, diving down without hesitation.

The five flood dragon heads lunged upward to intercept—

But the Savage Slave’s body liquefied, evading the bites effortlessly. Before the flood dragon could react, countless hair-thin blood threads materialized across its body, vanishing as quickly as they appeared.

Instantly, the five heads and the massive body shattered into countless pieces, dispersing into nothingness.

The spectral essence of the Five-Headed Flood Dragon had been annihilated in a single strike.

Blood-red threads materialized in the air, raining down toward the woman.

Han Li snorted coldly, extending his gray radiance to shield her. The black mountain flickered, teleporting above her head.

The blood threads gleamed brilliantly, slicing through the gray radiance effortlessly before clashing against the black mountain.

At the same time, space rippled beside Han Li as a faint blood-red shadow emerged.

Two clawed hands reached out silently, aiming for his back without a whisper of wind.

In the shadow, a pair of cunning eyes gleamed.

The second Savage Slave had stealthily closed in, seizing the moment Han Li was distracted to strike.

Even with Han Li’s formidable spiritual sense, he hadn’t detected it. By the time the claws tore through his protective radiance, evasion was impossible.

The claws shimmered, their edges slicing through the gray light like blades, aiming straight for Han Li’s back.

At the last moment, Han Li roared, and a robe of gold and silver materialized over his body.

Thunder crackled as countless arcs of gold and silver lightning erupted from the robe.

The claws struck—

*BOOM!*

Amid the deafening thunder, the crimson arms sizzled with smoke, but the claws pierced through the lightning robe like divine weapons, inches from Han Li’s flesh.

Then, four golden arms materialized from his back, striking the claws with deceptive lightness.

Somehow, they intercepted the attack with eerie precision, blocking the claws with a metallic screech.

Blood-red light flared, and the golden arms shattered into fragments—but the delay was enough.

Han Li twisted, transforming into a white thread that shot twenty zhang away before reforming. His eyes locked onto the Savage Slave, his expression icy.

The creature seemed surprised by its failure, its eyes darting about.

Meanwhile, the woman had teleported away from the blood threads, now regrouping into the wolf-ape form, its gaze fixed on her with malice.

The two Savage Slaves had clearly chosen their targets.

“Stick to the plan,” Han Li said coldly.

The woman nodded, flipping her hand to produce a spell disk. With a white flash, she slammed her palm onto it.

*Whoosh!*

Thirty-six small banners of varying colors materialized in a circle around the Savage Slaves, each initially just inches tall.

Under her incantations, they swelled to over ten zhang in height, their surfaces swirling with runes and pulsing with spiritual energy.

Simultaneously, Han Li formed a hand seal, and within the banner formation, shimmering golden threads emerged, weaving a net around the two Savage Slaves.
