Chapter 746: Breakthrough

“Robin, the paladin!”

Gandolf’s face was solemn. “So, you organized a heretical sect and tried to rescue criminals from the Inquisition?”

“How could that be?”

Although Robin had long planned to betray the church, and was about to act recently, this particular incident wasn’t his doing.

Moreover, the other party used this incident to implicate him, which looked like a preemptive strike.

Robin glanced at Jay, only to find the Pope’s expression calm, revealing no emotions.

“Is that so?”

Gandolf sneered. “Then how do you explain these?”

“Just a note. The handwriting could be forged by anyone…”

Robin clenched his fists, looking around and noticing that the temple had somehow been filled with a group of solemn-faced black-robed priests. The paladins he had brought were only a few and were surrounded.

“Your Holiness, do you believe such ridiculous lies?”

Robin immediately knelt down devoutly, his face turning red as he argued loudly, “Gandolf is slandering the Church!”

“Gandolf!”

At this point, Jay finally spoke, “With just a note, you accuse Paladin Robin of conspiring with heretics. That’s indeed insufficient evidence!”

“Insufficient? Then what about these?”

Gandolf sneered again, finally revealing his sharp fangs.

With a wave of his hand, several black-robed priests carried boxes forward, filled with letters and interpretations of doctrine.

“Ten years ago, you were already dissatisfied with the Church!”

Gandolf accused loudly, “Robin! You have been searching for the old church classics, refuted the doctrine of original sin, and secretly contacted paladins and priests who were dissatisfied with the current papacy. Do you think we don’t know all of this?”

“I don’t even know what you’re talking about…”

Robin paused and then retorted, “My faith in the Church and our God has never changed. If you don’t believe me, we can ask the deity to verify it personally.”

Everyone knew that the God of Redemption had not issued any divine decrees other than granting divine grace long ago.

And if it was just a matter of faith, how could Robin be afraid?

His honor as the chief paladin wasn’t just for show. Without a very high paladin level, how could he hold such a position steadily?

Just looking at this, it was clear that his faith in the God of Redemption had no problems.

“No need. If the physical evidence is not enough, I have witnesses!”

Gandolf clapped his hands, and a man bound in heavy chains and covered in blood was brought into the temple.

“My Lord… This is the Dawnlight—Deputy Captain Kevin?!”

The man was a bloody mess, but when he lifted his head, his features were barely recognizable. One of Robin’s paladins immediately cried out in shock.

Because this Kevin was clearly Robin’s right-hand man! He was still leading the paladin training in the morning.

But now, he had turned into this state, obviously having undergone unimaginable torture.

“Kevin, do you acknowledge that Robin is a heretic?”

Gandolf’s expression did not change at all as he coldly asked.

“Ac… acknowledge…”

Kevin’s eyes were vacant. After barely squeezing out the word from between his teeth, tears streamed down his face.

“Robin! Now that witnesses and evidence are all here, what do you have to say?”

Gandolf laughed triumphantly.

“Robin!”

At this point, Pope Jay also spoke, “As the chief paladin, your actions have made me extremely disappointed!”

Although his tone was calm, it was equivalent to sentencing Robin to death!

It was only now that Robin realized, “So it was you!”

The Inquisition was the Pope’s dog, naturally only biting whom the master allowed. Appearing in a high moral stance now was only to maintain the image of justice and avoid gossip.

Clang!

Realizing this, Robin already knew that today was a fight to the death.

He drew his gleaming longsword, and the group of paladins behind him did the same.

“For the faith!”

Robin shouted loudly, “Jay! The doctrine of original sin is the greatest heresy. You cruelly persecute those who disagree with you, tolerate the corruption of the church’s upper echelons, and today I will judge you on behalf of our Lord!”

“Judgment!”

After ten years of preparation, it was not in vain. When Robin drew his sword, the paladins behind him also drew their weapons and shouted loudly.

“Robin, you dare to resist even after being discovered? Drawing your weapons, do you intend to assassinate the Pope?”

Gandolf waved his hand, “Seize them!”

The well-prepared black-robed priests drew their weapons. Some sneered and even pulled out shotguns and submachine guns.

These ultimate weapons from before the apocalypse, stored in the camp as a trump card to deal with beasts, were ironically used for the first time in internal strife, and against fellow clergy like Robin, it was nothing short of ironic.

“What… what is going on…”

Evan, who was kneeling below, was completely stunned.

He never imagined that his trial would uncover so much.

The paladin captain Robin, was actually a heretic? And was being hunted down by the Pope’s order?

But after witnessing the darkness of the Church, he no longer believed that Pope Jay had any sanctity left.

“Break through!”

Robin’s longsword ignited with blazing white holy flames, “In the name of the divine, Holy Armor!”

Boom!

A column of pure white light fell, dividing into dozens of streams, forming a layer of radiant, almost tangible armor on the paladins.

As soon as this “Mass Divine Armor” was cast, some new Inquisition priests felt their minds become confused.

Why could someone declared a heretic by the Pope still receive divine favor?

“Charge, break through!”

Robin swung his sword at Pope Jay, “Sinner, I judge you!”

“How could you understand the devotion of my faith to the divine?”

Pope Jay snapped his fingers, and a golden shield immediately formed in front of him, blocking all the powerful holy sword energy.

He was also a fanatic follower of the God of Redemption, and his priest level was unmatched throughout the entire Church.

Boom!

The scattered sword energy flew everywhere, turning the entire temple into chaos.

Robin, well aware of Jay’s strength, had no real hope for that first strike. After delivering a blow to draw attention, he immediately led his men to break through.

“What are you waiting for, let’s go?”

Before leaving, Robin casually waved his right hand, and the two black-robed priests beside Kevin fell limply to the ground.

He looked at Evan, who was still standing there in shock, and similarly swung his sword.

Crack!

The chains snapped.

“O… okay!”

Evan immediately replied loudly. Why would he continue to stay at the Inquisition? To get himself killed?

Rather than that, he might as well fight fiercely!

“Seize them, kill them if necessary!”

Gandolf rushed out, although he radiated no divine light of the God of Redemption, a different powerful aura enveloped him.

“Psionic user?!”

Robin had long discovered that as the head of the Inquisition, Gandolf barely met the standards of a follower of the God of Redemption, but the reason he could control this place was naturally due to his own psionic abilities!

The advancement of clergy was closely related to their devotion, but psionic users completely relied on their own innate talent and postnatal training!

Undoubtedly, Gandolf’s awakened psionic abilities were extremely powerful, and he had immense combat experience.

In fact, the elite forces of the entire Inquisition were composed of such psionic users. Few true believers and clergy were willing to do such work. Even if they did, their faith and divine favor would quickly diminish, ultimately making them ordinary.

“Gandolf, I’ve long wanted to judge you!”

Robin laughed loudly, “In the name of the divine!”

Boom!

A blazing sword of light slashed out, instantly splitting the invisible force field in the air.

Most members of the paladin order were extremely devout, receiving the most divine favor, and could be considered elite. Now, with Robin’s blessing, even bullets could hardly harm them.

“Kill!”

Evan, his eyes red, swung a greatsword he had grabbed from somewhere, quickly breaking through to the outside of the temple.

In the air, terrifying energy ripples continuously spread and destroyed everything. These were the aftermaths of Robin and Gandolf’s battle. Everyone present, whether psionic users or paladins, wisely avoided that direction.

Pope Jay, however, stood silently on the altar, seemingly lost in thought.

“Holy Light Slash!”

Of course, Evan wasn’t paying attention to all this at the moment. The only thought in his mind was to follow those white-robed paladins and break through!

He swung his greatsword, releasing a dazzling arc of light, suddenly slicing two black-robed priests blocking his way in half, revealing a trembling, fat figure behind them: “Please… don’t kill me!”

“Douharte?!”

The man’s head was still wrapped in bandages, looking very ridiculous, cowering in the corner, trembling.

Recognizing the culprit who had caused his current situation, Evan didn’t hesitate at all. His greatsword came down swiftly, blood splattered.

Boom!

The temple doors were violently broken open, and a squad of bloodied and heavily reduced paladins rushed onto the square.

Just at that moment, the temple roof was also broken, and two figures fell down.

“Do you think escaping from the temple means the end?”

Gandolf hovered in mid-air, emitting invisible pulling forces from his body, as if a black hole.

Evan looked around at the numerous figures that were already waiting and surrounding them, and his face involuntarily showed a look of despair.

“Robin, to arrest you, the chief paladin, would I only prepare this much?”

Gandolf slowly descended to the ground, waving his hand at the priests outside, “Kill them all!”

Under the gaze of many, Evan’s heart began to pound violently.
