The Pandorn Empire.
A war is raging.
Due to the Empire’s acute contradictions and the opposition between superiors and subordinates, a small disturbance that began in a bar quickly escalated into a massive rebellion across the entire Empire, thanks to the efforts of certain individuals.
To be honest, the reason for such an outcome was entirely because the nobility’s behavior was simply too disgraceful. They had essentially turned the Empire into a powder keg, so it was only natural that it exploded at the first spark. This scale was even beyond what the hidden hands behind the rebellion had anticipated.
“This Empire… has indeed rotted to its very core…”
Outside a fortress, Chevalier wore the uniform of an officer and gazed at the steel-clad bastion before him. The heavily armored defenses and the massive cannon barrels, large enough to swallow a man whole, were clear indicators of how formidable the enemy was.
“Just capture this fortress ahead, and the entire Empire will be completely split in two!”
He stared at the opposing side, his eyes burning with intensity.
“Faced with such danger, even the Empire, for all its sluggishness, should finally react…”
Beside Chevalier, a female colonel bluntly drew a mark on the map with a marker pen: “According to the latest intelligence, the Empire has already appointed the Duke of Black Roses as the supreme commander, leading an army of two hundred thousand troops, firmly entrenched within the fortress. Its geographical position is far too critical—if we fail to secure this transportation line, our rebel forces will be fragmented and isolated across regions, leaving us vulnerable to piecemeal destruction!”
“I know… Right now, those parasites in the Imperial Senate are probably eagerly anticipating news of my failure, as I get bogged down by this steel fortress, aren’t they?”
A mocking smile curled at the corner of Chevalier’s lips.
“Actually, our time is limited. The Empire’s High Seas Fleet is already en route to attack us. If we can’t capture this fortress within ten days, we will face simultaneous assaults from both land and sea, and of course, the skies won’t be spared either…”
The female colonel spoke in a calm tone.
“So, using the Black Rose to stall me while sending the navy to strike our heartland? Finally, those fools on the other side have come up with a decent plan!”
Chevalier shook his head. “Unfortunately… their surprise force won’t appear. Don’t you agree, Dr. Sith?”
“That’s right! General has already dispatched that guy Poseidon, leading our navy to intercept the High Seas Fleet…”
Dr. Sith walked in. He appeared middle-aged, with a smooth forehead free of wrinkles, a ruddy complexion, and a loud, energetic voice, exuding vitality.
Doctor, how does it feel to be a reincarnator?
Chevalier asked with a smile. Previously, Dr. Sith had been a frail, white-haired old man, lying on his deathbed.
“Fantastic!”
Dr. Sith lovingly caressed his face, feeling the youthful, taut skin brimming with vitality: “In fact… I’ve never felt this good before.”
“You’re Dr. Sith? The Empire’s most outstanding scientist? The one who once won international scientific awards?”
The female colonel exclaimed in surprise.
“I know what you want to ask…”
Dr. Sith chuckled. “That’s right, I used to be the pride of the Empire and swore loyalty to it. But since I fell gravely ill, it not only abandoned me immediately but also schemed to seize my achievements, leaving me alone and helpless on my deathbed! At that time, I swore that if given a second chance, I would exact my revenge in full!”
“Now, I’ve been given the opportunity to start anew. Let the Empire prepare to face my wrath!”
Dr. Sith’s expression turned somewhat frenzied.
“Alright, how’s the preparation going for what I asked you to prepare?”
Chevalier frowned, interrupting Sith’s rant.
“Hehe… Of course, it’s already ready. An experimental prototype has already been sent with Poseidon, while the sole genuine article is right here!”
Sith cackled. “When it comes to research on the X-Factor, how could that Luther from the Federation ever compare to me? Plus, I now have the technological and resource support of the entire God Space—it’s practically the ideal laboratory and research facility… Chevalier, the contribution points you’ve allocated are far too limited; there are so many devices I can’t even afford to redeem!”
“These… will definitely be increased after this war!”
At this, Chevalier’s face showed a hint of helplessness.
Although the doctor was indeed exceptionally talented in research, he was also a bottomless pit when it came to resource consumption. Contribution points in the God Space were something no reincarnator ever considered to be in surplus.
He was currently prioritizing Sith’s development by mobilizing the entire team’s contribution points, which had already drawn some grumbling from his teammates.
Relying on Reincarnators is unreliable; one must cultivate their own subordinates and send them into the God Space, but even then, loyalty cannot be guaranteed… and Slave Contracts are extremely precious. Moreover, the selection of individuals into the Reincarnation Space is entirely random unless one possesses specific artifacts…
He had spent a very rare artifact to bring Dr. Sith into the God Space and used the space to heal him, and there was no second such item left in the entire team’s warehouse.
Dr. Sith, of course, was unaware of Chevalier’s inner thoughts.
He led Chevalier into the military warehouse, revealing a strange mechanical device.
It looked like a metallic platform, with a throne-like structure on top, complete with armrests. Many peculiar patterns shimmered with light around it, and numerous gears interlocked and rotated. Boiling sounds emanated from within, blending science fiction with mysticism in an unprecedentedly tight synthesis.
“The X-Factor Amplifier!”
Dr. Sith gently stroked the metallic surface of the platform, his voice brimming with emotion: “Most of the materials and components originate from the God Space. After my design and assembly, it can significantly enhance the abilities of a Reincarnator… Leader, you have already been upgraded to an S-rank ability, equivalent to a fourth-level Reincarnator. Theoretically, using this device could temporarily elevate your power to the fifth level—the legendary X-level!”
“So the boss will be invincible!”
The female colonel exclaimed in awe, clearly herself a reincarnator.
It was unknown to what extent the rebel command and upper echelons had been infiltrated by Reincarnators.
“Not so easily…”
Dr. Sith shook his head: “Firstly, this device can only be used once. Afterwards, a large number of components must be replaced. Such consumption is something even our team’s warehouse can’t sustain for many uses… And most importantly, its activation is extremely slow, and it cannot be moved. In that amount of time, the enemy would have already fled!”
“Therefore, unless under certain specific circumstances, it won’t be effective…”
The female colonel looked disdainful for a moment, then turned her gaze back to the steel fortress across: “So… the target is it?”
“Exactly!”
Chevalier’s body lifted into the air, and he sat down on the metallic throne, gripping the armrests with both hands.
“The X-Instrument has begun to operate, absorbing free-floating X-Factors from the air. The entire process will take 12 hours!”
Dr. Sith adjusted his glasses: “The general offensive can be scheduled after this time. Also, I’d like to remind the boss… within the Iron Eagle Fortress on the other side, there’s another technology we must obtain at all costs…”
“What… is it?”
From the throne came Chevalier’s somewhat labored voice, clearly maintaining the operation of this device was a heavy burden for him.
“It’s the Empire’s secret weapon, codenamed ‘Thor’s Sword’—a bomb of tremendous power utilizing interatomic forces… Theoretically, as long as there are enough of them, they could even destroy our planet’s ecosystem, plunging the entire world into an extinction-level winter!”
Dr. Sith said gravely: “Not only us, but both the Crimson Rose Federation and the Golden Oak seem to be conducting research in this area, though they’ve hit a wall at the key steps of raw material extraction. In this regard, the Pandorn Empire definitely holds the advantage!”
“Why?”
The female colonel immediately asked curiously.
“Because the Pandorn has conducted the most research into supernatural powers… Those nobles and the Emperor themselves are all dreaming of immortality. The Imperial Senate allocates a massive budget annually for research into supernatural forces…”
A mocking smirk appeared on Dr. Sith’s lips: “Materials that our current technology cannot mass-separate and purify can be extracted by the Empire using supernatural powers… Of course, I don’t know whether those fools have thought of this point…”
“‘Thor’s Sword’? How does its power compare to this device?”
Chevalier’s voice came.
“Far from comparable!”
Dr. Sith shook his head: “According to my calculations, a single standard-sized ‘Thor’s Sword’ would be enough to destroy the entire Iron Eagle Fortress before us!”
“If that’s the case, we must obtain this technology!”
Chevalier’s voice was firm.
He was certainly no fool, but rather a rare wise man, fully aware of the current situation.
Although the revolutionary army was advancing rapidly, it was like a raging fire, having yet to establish sufficiently strong rear bases to continuously supply troops and taxes.
Once he suffered a major defeat, the entire army could disintegrate in an instant.
Moreover, due to the overly simplistic and brutal nature of the initial revolutionary manifesto, the army’s reputation internationally was terrible, gaining no support whatsoever, even in the freedom-loving Crimson Rose Federation.
“Once a war begins, stopping it becomes extremely difficult…”
Chevalier had this realization: “We must possess sufficient deterrent power to ensure our interests at the negotiating table. Until then, we must keep fighting and keep winning!”
“It’s difficult, but let me first help you achieve a glorious victory!”
As Dr. Sith muttered madly, a powerful surge suddenly emanated from the device, shooting straight into the sky!
