Chapter 683: Mission

[Main God Mission Activated!]

[Mission World: Vampire Zombies!]

[Main Quest – Survival Initiated!]

[Requirement: Survive in the mission world for more than three days!]

[Reward: 100 Contribution Points!]

[Note: Sub-quests must be triggered by interacting with story characters yourself, but this may cause irreversible changes to the main quest. Opportunities and risks go hand in hand!]

After the grand yet mechanical voice of the Main God faded away, the five rookie reincarnators immediately fell into chaos.

“Wait… the mission starts now?”

Charles felt somewhat flustered: “What happens if we refuse to carry it out?”

As a salesman, haggling was second nature to him.

Unfortunately, the Main God was not something he could negotiate with.

[Refusal to comply will result in annihilation!]

With just this simple sentence, Charles’ resistance was completely crushed.

“Alright, alright! You’re the boss! You’re the big shot!”

Charles raised his hands in surrender. Everything that had happened here was filled with sci-fi and bizarre elements, yet it felt undeniably real, leaving him no room for resistance. [Reincarnators prepare, teleportation commencing!]

At this moment, even the usually most defiant among them, Jieling and Daniel, dared not defy the will of this mysterious Main God.

When they followed instructions and stood before the grand palace, the Main God’s mighty voice echoed once again, followed immediately by a dizzying sensation.

“Where is this…”

Charles suppressed his nausea and discomfort while surveying the surroundings.

Blue skies, white clouds, nearby woods, and faint outlines of buildings told him he had already left the previous space. Everything felt like a dream.

“Grass, flowers…”

Lolita crouched down, then spread her arms wide, feeling the breeze, her eyes suddenly filled with emotion: “I’ve changed my mind. I will survive and earn two hundred thousand contribution points from the Main God!”

“Hey! Hey! Guys! Do you really believe everything that entity said?”

Becky exclaimed dramatically: “Perhaps this is just a collective illusion… Look, we’re already back. We can just go back to our normal lives. Why take such risks?”

“Is this really our original world?”

Charles countered: “According to the Main God, this is the vampire zombie world!”

“Daniel and I are going to go out for a walk!”

On the other side, the couple whispered to each other for a while before finally making a decision: “At the very least, we should find a telephone booth to inform the police and my mom about everything that’s happened.”

“Alright… alright!”

Charles looked around: “Let’s go together! At least find somewhere with people first to figure out where we are. That should be safe enough!”

Thinking about the survival mission issued by the Main God, he felt slightly uneasy, but there was nothing he could do about it now.

Five strangers, in an unfamiliar environment, naturally came together and formed a small group.

Becky led the way and soon shouted joyfully: “Look! There’s a farm over there!”

Emerging from the jungle cover, the surroundings became clearly visible.

On a patch of yellow-green grassland, numerous white fences formed a large circle, with hay stacked in the middle, forming a typical western ranch scene.

“This seems like the western part of the kingdom. I’ve seen ranches like this before!”

Becky rubbed his chin, appearing very experienced: “Be careful when we go to visit. Don’t cross their private property, or those westerners will shoot first and ask questions later, as per their customs.”

“There must be a telephone inside. We can borrow a steam-powered car from him. He might be a good guy and even treat us with turkey and beer…”

Jieling mumbled to herself while pulling off a pair of diamond earrings: “We can use these to trade with him!”

Charles looked at Jieling with some surprise.

Clearly, she wasn’t some ignorant rich girl but rather quite smart, though still somewhat naive due to her youth.

“Something’s wrong!”

He voiced his dissent: “I feel like something’s off!”

Charles frowned, scanning the ranch. In the sunlight, rising warm vapors made one drowsy, lowering their alertness: “Why are there no cattle or people in sight?”

“Maybe they’re in the barn or out herding somewhere!”

Becky rubbed his hands together, eager to proceed: “Let’s go. We should at least greet them!”

Putting on an indifferent expression, he strode forward. Driven by hope for food and safety, Jieling and Daniel followed behind.

“You guys…”

Charles sighed and reluctantly followed.

Lolita, though silent, walked at the very back of the group, right behind Charles.

“Is anyone home? We’re lost travelers hoping for assistance!”

Becky approached the farm gate, but no matter how loudly he shouted, the farm remained completely silent.

“No one’s here!”

He turned to his companions with a shrug: “Shall we keep going or try another place?”

“If this really is the western part, without transportation, it might take hours to reach the next ranch!”

Jieling looked reluctant: “Shout louder. Maybe the owner just didn’t hear us. Daniel!”

Forced by her gaze, Daniel shouted a few more times but dared not step into the ranch grounds: “According to the kingdom’s laws, private property is sacred and inviolable. We can’t recklessly enter someone else’s private land or we might be shot without facing any consequences!”

“Coward!”

Jieling huffed but did not argue.

“Alright! Let’s wait a bit longer. Maybe the owner will come back soon!”

Becky glanced at the sun, whose light was gradually turning orange-red as it set.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

In the midst of the silence, sudden pounding sounds came from the door.

“Someone’s there!”

Becky laughed loudly: “See? He must be inside the house.”

“Then why doesn’t he come out or at least say something?”

Jieling questioned.

“Maybe he needs help too!”

Becky immediately found a reason to enter: “We need to go in and help him!”

The knocking grew louder in the surrounding silence. Daniel already knew Becky’s intentions. It seemed he was determined to explore inside, using the excuse of someone needing help.

Still, looking at the others, Daniel did not refuse.

After all, the prolonged tension and exhaustion had left him feeling ravenous.

Spending a night alone on the dark, cold grassland was something he absolutely refused to do.

Suddenly, Charles realized what was wrong.

“Be quiet!”

He looked around fearfully: “It’s too quiet! There’s not even a single insect. Something must be wrong here!”

“Haha… Charles, you’re just too timid!”

Becky climbed over the fence and approached the door: “Is the owner home? We’re here to help!”

With a mocking smile, he pulled open the door with his right hand.

Thud!

A figure lay on the ground, seemingly having just been behind the door.

“Oh! Look what we’ve done?”

The figure’s face was down, apparently having fallen hard, but it was still twitching, clearly alive.

Muttering, Becky immediately squatted down, trying to pull the person up.

“Ahh!”

Suddenly, the figure turned its head, revealing bloodshot eyes and a half-rotten face.

“Crack!”

It roared and bit down hard on Becky’s shoulder!

Instantly, blood splattered!

“Damn it!”

Becky punched the figure hard: “Crazy? Rabies?”

He had seen similar cases before, people who would bite others like madmen.

“This person is sick! We need to save him quickly!”

Jieling said, but her face suddenly changed, as if someone had grabbed her throat.

Creak! Creak!

Through the open door, several ragged, staggering figures could be seen inside, looking like living corpses, their eyes seemingly glowing red.

“What is this… Ah!”

Daniel, who was helping Becky tie up the suspected patient, screamed as he suddenly felt the madman beneath his hands bite into his hand.

“Run! Get away from here!”

Charles practically roared, while Lolita behind him turned and fled without looking back.

It was hard to imagine that someone barefoot could run so fast, like a gust of wind.

A great fear gripped Charles’ heart in an instant.

“Woof! Woof!”

Then, he saw in horror those drooling “patients” rushing toward him, making meaningless, beast-like howling sounds.

“Run!”

He grabbed the nearest Jieling and started sprinting.

“Ahh!”

Daniel screamed, entangled in place, while Becky managed to escape.

Snap! Snap!

Terrifying biting sounds came from behind. Charles looked back in horror and saw those madmen tearing open Daniel’s throat, greedily sucking his blood.

Daniel, the poor kid, eyes lifeless, had already lost any sign of life.

“Cursed! What the hell were those things?”

After running back into the woods, Charles gasped for breath, asking in a disheveled state.

“They’re not just madmen!”

Lolita, standing beside him, spoke up: “Remember the Main God’s message? This world is the vampire zombie world…”

At this moment, she almost blindly believed in the Main God to obtain resurrection items, grasping onto this last straw like a drowning person.

“This world… is no longer our original one…”

She smiled, her eyes shining with an indescribable light: “The Main God is indeed omnipotent. My hope will surely come true!”
