Chapter 42: The Stepmother’s Banquet

[Test Content: Participating in the First District Middle School Musical Instrument Competition and reaching the finals]

[Test Reward: Skill Level Up Card (Level 5 and below)]

A Skill Level Up Card?

Xia Yu immediately thought that he could use this to enhance his programming level.

Learning programming was much more difficult than learning piano, and it became increasingly challenging at higher levels. With this card, he could save a lot of time.

The final round would involve ten participants, and reaching the top ten would likely require a Music level 4.

In other words, if he raised his Music skill from level 3 to level 4, he could then upgrade his Programming skill from level 4 to level 5 as a reward?

Xia Yu felt like he was getting a great deal, not to mention the bonus of a recommendation from a prestigious university and at least a 100,000 bonus.

After a moment of hesitation, he made his decision.

He was going to secure a spot in the top ten!

However, he needed to find a way so that An Siyao wouldn’t recognize him.

Thinking about this, Xia Yu hesitated slightly.

If he were to carry out that plan, he would have to meet that person again.

Xia Yu looked at his suitcase—it had been a gift from that person.

He then glanced toward You Xue’s room. If she found out about this, she would probably feel a bit upset too.

Well, whatever. None of that really mattered.

During the day, he would attend classes and work as usual. At night, Xia Yu logged into An Siyao’s body.

Opening his eyes, he saw the familiar piano. Beside it lay a violin.

“You’re back,” An Siyao’s voice sounded cheerful.

“Yeah, something came up yesterday, so I couldn’t come.” Although he had already told An Siyao that the body-swapping would be somewhat unstable lately, Xia Yu still offered an explanation.

“Nothing serious happened, right?” she asked with concern.

“It’s already resolved.”

“You’re not… tired of me?” the girl asked hesitantly.

“No.”

Receiving Xia Yu’s answer, An Siyao relaxed.

“Want to learn something today?” she asked expectantly.

“Let’s do piano. Play the most difficult piece you have.” Xia Yu checked his game points—860 in total. Enough to exchange for a double experience card.

An Siyao asked if he wanted classical or pop music. Xia Yu chose classical and eventually settled on the piece “Praise the Sun.”

As one of the most difficult classical pieces, “Praise the Sun” was even harder than “The Child of Transformation’s Gallery.” Combined with Xia Yu’s current double experience rate—which was far less than the previous 8x—he was progressing very slowly.

As time drew to a close, he still hadn’t mastered the piece.

Xia Yu wasn’t in a rush. During the last fifteen minutes, he stopped as usual and returned to the bedroom to chat with An Siyao.

An Siyao mentioned something.

“I’m going to Fangzhang City tomorrow,” she said. “Mom’s birthday party will be held at the villa there.”

Mom? Hadn’t she previously said her mother had passed away?

Was it her stepmother?

“Why in Fangzhang City?” Xia Yu was puzzled. Although Fangzhang City was considered a second-tier city, how could such a place match the status of the An family?

“It seems like it’s because that’s where Mom’s hometown is,” An Siyao wasn’t exactly sure why, and she hadn’t even considered that holding a party in Fangzhang might be inappropriate.

So it’s the stepmother’s hometown? Meaning, the stepmother wanted to use this party to increase the influence of her natal family?

Well, none of that was his concern.

Wait, could there be something wrong with the birthday party of this stepmother?

“Do you want me to come?” Xia Yu asked. “Will anyone bully you at the party?”

“No way,” An Siyao replied. “Besides, tomorrow is just for arriving. The real party will be the day after.”

Considering the girl’s personality, Xia Yu rephrased his question: “Then can I use your body tomorrow and the day after?”

“Of course! Anytime is fine!”

Xia Yu could tell from An Siyao’s voice that she was excited.

So, the girl still wanted him to use her body, but just didn’t dare to say it directly.

Then he might as well go to the banquet tomorrow. He had never seen an elite party before.

Having decided that, Xia Yu returned to his own body.

Getting up from the bed, Xia Yu began making plans while looking forward to the delicacies at the banquet.

Tomorrow and the day after seemed to be out of the question. He would meet that person the day after tomorrow. He hoped that after so many years apart, she was still the same as before.

He wondered how she would feel upon hearing that Xia Dongyang had sold the house and disappeared.

What would she do?

He stopped thinking and ceased making pointless guesses.

At four in the afternoon the next day, he logged into An Siyao’s body again.

At this moment, An Siyao was in a narrow small space. Glancing at the blue sky and white clouds outside the window nearby, Xia Yu deduced that they were on a plane.

“Want something to eat?” An Siyao’s voice echoed in Xia Yu’s mind.

“How long until we land?” Xia Yu looked around. The small space was approximately one meter wide and two meters long, with a television at his feet.

No wonder the elite class could afford their own room on a plane, although it wasn’t very big.

“About two more hours, but we can order food now,” An Siyao once again promoted the in-flight meal options.

Xia Yu hesitated for a moment, then picked up the menu and ordered cheese and caviar.

Xia Yu wasn’t quite used to the taste of the cheese, but the caviar was quite delicious.

Two hours later, the plane landed. A flight attendant came over to guide Xia Yu off the plane. Along the way, staff members stood respectfully to one side, politely greeting him.

This further made Xia Yu feel the pleasures of high society.

Following An Siyao’s directions, Xia Yu found the driver who had come to pick him up and arrived at his destination—the villa of An Siyao’s stepmother.

It was less a villa and more accurately described as an estate, about half again larger than An Siyao’s villa.

However, this villa was located in the suburbs of Fangzhang City, while An Siyao’s villa was in the city center of Yaoguang City. In terms of value, An Siyao’s villa was still more expensive.

A maid led Xia Yu to his room.

Placing the suitcase aside, Xia Yu looked at the room layout. It wasn’t very different from An Siyao’s room.

“What’s next?” Xia Yu asked An Siyao.

“Take a bath,” the girl replied.

“???” Xia Yu looked puzzled. “Are you sure?”

“I feel sticky,” An Siyao explained, her heart uneasy. “Do you dislike seeing my body?”

“That’s not it,” Xia Yu recalled that he had used An Siyao’s body so many times that he had even become familiar with using sanitary napkins. There really wasn’t much to be concerned about.

He picked up some clothes and walked into the bathroom.

After bathing and changing into fresh clothes, Xia Yu had just sat at the desk for a while when his door was knocked on.

Opening the door, he saw five teenagers roughly An Siyao’s age outside.

Three boys and two girls.

“Go out to eat tonight?” one boy invited Xia Yu.

“I told you she wouldn’t go! She’s never gone before!” one girl complained.

“Okay,” Xia Yu answered.

“See, I told you… Wait, are you serious?” the girl looked at Xia Yu in astonishment.
