Chapter 402: I Am the Most Beloved Child

Although Keke Xia had never met You Xue in person, Xia Yu knew that she must have heard of You Xue and recognized her, pretending to be clueless.

Xia Yu had already figured out Keke’s situation and had no mood to continue the charade with the girl. He pulled his hand from Keke’s embrace and said to her:

“You should go sit with Grandma.”

Keke sensed the coldness in Xia Yu’s tone. She weighed the pros and cons and decided it was best to obediently leave at this point.

Thus, she stood up and moved to sit beside Nianhong Xia.

You Xue happily returned to her seat, shot Keke a smug glance, and hugged Xia Yu’s arm.

Keke felt somewhat annoyed inside but maintained a calm expression.

In her heart, she replied to You Xue: Hmph, childish brat!

Picking up the drink from the floor, Keke asked Nianhong Xia to help open it, poured a full glass, and handed it to Xia Yu.

After Xia Yu accepted it, she shot You Xue a triumphant glance.

You Xue’s eyes widened in surprise, not expecting Keke to act so ingratiatingly.

Looking around the table for something else to ingratiate herself, You Xue grew anxious when she found nothing.

Without a response, wouldn’t she lose!

How could she lose to this person!

Xia Yu observed both of their expressions and found it somewhat amusing.

Picking up the juice in front of him, Xia Yu placed it in front of You Xue.

You Xue immediately brightened, smiling at Keke and conveying with her eyes: See that, you poured the juice but Brother gave it to me!

Keke was pouring the second glass of juice when she saw this, causing her hand to waver slightly, almost spilling the juice.

Focusing back on her task, Keke temporarily abandoned her rivalry with You Xue.

Her goal was not Xia Yu; such a small matter was not worth her attention.

She poured the second glass of juice for Xia Yu, the fourth for Siyao An, then poured wine for Nianhong Xia and Ye Xia, finally pouring juice for herself.

“Yuyu, try the chicken stewed with mushrooms that your grandfather just learned to cook,” Nianhong Xia said.

Xia Yu picked up a piece of chicken and put it into his mouth. The chicken was a bit dry, and the broth wasn’t quite right, but overall, the dish was quite good.

After he started eating, Nianhong Xia and Ye Xia began to eat as well.

Keke noticed the order in which they began eating, somewhat surprised that Xia Yu actually occupied the top seat at home.

Although he was the eldest son, Xia Yu was still a college student; his status shouldn’t be this high. Were his grandparents just too indulgent toward their grandson?

Troublesome, a family with gender bias would not be conducive to her development.

Keke was somewhat worried. She had no other choice; Hanyue Kong had clearly stated she didn’t want to deal with her, so she could only stay in this family.

At least it was much better than staying with Dongyang Xia.

She picked up a piece of chicken breast, put it in her mouth, said it was delicious, and received praise from Ye Xia.

Then, she picked up the potato slices stir-fried by Nianhong Xia, said it was delicious, and made Nianhong Xia laugh happily.

Observing her, Xia Yu thought that although this girl was cunning, she really knew how to win people’s favor. Placing her with Nianhong Xia and Ye Xia to accompany the two elderly people was quite suitable.

Turning his attention back, he looked at Siyao An.

Siyao An was curiously picking up dishes, some of which she didn’t even recognize.

Xia Yu glanced at You Xue again; she felt she had defeated Keke and was once again in a good mood, happily drinking her juice.

If only they could catch Hanyue Kong as well, it would be perfect.

After dinner, the family sat on the sofa watching the Spring Festival Gala. At ten o’clock, Nianhong Xia asked everyone to go to sleep, saying it would be very noisy in the morning and that they wouldn’t get much sleep if they didn’t go to bed early.

Holding Siyao An’s hand, Xia Yu stood up and noticed a problem.

There were three rooms in the house; originally, the grandparents, Xia Yu, and You Xue each had one. Now, with the addition of Siyao An and Keke Xia, how would they sleep?

Nianhong Xia coughed and said to Xia Yu, “Keke will sleep with us. You and Yaoyao should go back to your room and sleep.”

Xia Yu understood the implication in Nianhong’s words. The elders wanted him and Siyao An to sleep in the same room.

Turning his head, looking at the yawning Siyao An, Xia Yu felt a bit stirred.

He pulled Siyao An along and went to his room.

“You go take a shower first. Come to sleep after you finish,” Xia Yu said to Siyao An.

Even though Siyao An was somewhat slow-witted, she understood the awkwardness at this moment. She nodded softly, took out her clothes from the suitcase, and went into the bathroom.

The bathroom in the countryside was small, and Xia Yu was afraid Siyao An might not be used to it, so he sent You Xue in with her.

Ten minutes later, Siyao An and You Xue came out wearing pajamas, hand in hand, and went to Xia Yu’s room to play.

After Xia Yu finished his shower and came out, You Xue was still on his bed, playing the handheld game with Siyao An.

Xia Yu turned up the air conditioner by one degree and got into bed, watching the two girls who were completely immersed in the game.

Half an hour later, they still showed no sign of stopping.

Xia Yu could only remind You Xue: “It’s time to sleep.”

“I don’t feel sleepy,” You Xue replied.

“I think you’re sleepy,” Xia Yu hinted again.

You Xue sensed something was off and looked up from the game. She realized she had become the third wheel in the night.

Her face flushed red, and she quickly put away the handheld game, getting off the bed.

Before stepping out the door, she made a face at Xia Yu: “Bad brother.”

“Close the door properly!” Xia Yu said.

Bang—

You Xue closed the door.

The bedroom became quiet instantly.

Lying on the bed, Xia Yu opened his arms and beckoned Siyao An.

The girl lowered her head and snuggled into his arms, her back facing him.

Turning off the light, Xia Yu hugged Siyao An and whispered in her ear: “Sleep.”

The dark environment made Siyao An somewhat anxious. Her hand protectively covered her chest, waiting.

But until Xia Yu’s breathing became steady and deep, she did not encounter the “monster in the dark.”

Turning around to face Xia Yu, Siyao An looked at him with disappointment and closed her eyes.

Boom—

Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang

The next morning, the sound of firecrackers suddenly erupted.

Siyao An was sleeping soundly when she was startled awake, quickly lifting her head and bumping into Xia Yu’s chin, who was secretly watching her.

The collision was not light. She held her head, tears welling up in her eyes.

Xia Yu’s chin also hurt a bit. Touching his chin, he glared at Siyao An and said menacingly, “You hit me. Now, tell me, what are you going to do about it?”

Seeing Xia Yu’s displeased expression, Siyao An felt somewhat panicked and also wronged.

After all, her head hurt too.

Her eyebrows furrowed, her lips downturned, she looked pitifully at Xia Yu and negotiated: “I’ll give you a company.”

“That’s a New Year gift, not compensation.” Xia Yu held Siyao An’s shoulders, refusing to accept.

“Then what should I do?” Siyao An asked, somewhat frightened.

Xia Yu chuckled, lowered his head, and pecked the girl’s lips.

As they were playing around, the bedroom door suddenly swung open, and You Xue jumped in: “Wake up… la?”

The girl covered her eyes, slowly backed out of the room, and closed the door.
