Yaoguang City, An Siyao’s villa.
An Tianfeng opened his eyes and sat up from the bed.
After An Siyao and Xia Yu left, he felt somewhat weary, sent his secretary away, and took a good nap, after which he felt much better.
Getting off the bed, An Tianfeng opened the bedroom door and walked into the living room on the second floor.
It was already past 11 a.m., and he felt a bit hungry.
Normally, there should have been a maid on standby here, but An Tianfeng only saw an empty living room.
He assumed the maid had gone to the restroom, but after sitting on the sofa waiting for three minutes, the maid still hadn’t appeared.
He then thought the maid must be hiding somewhere slacking off.
“Cough!” An Tianfeng loudly coughed, warning the lazy maid to come back quickly.
However, he coughed until his throat hurt, and still, the maid didn’t appear.
What was going on?
An Tianfeng sensed something was wrong. He walked past the restroom to the staff’s break room, but it was also empty.
He then went to the kitchen. It was spotlessly clean; there wasn’t even a pot left out.
He took out his phone to call the head maid, only to realize he had only the previous head maid Dong Yi’s number.
Rubbing his aching head, An Tianfeng called Yu Ningmeng.
After hearing what An Tianfeng had to say, Yu Ningmeng pretended to be clueless and said, “I’m sorry, Mr. An, I didn’t know you were at the villa. The maids are on their Spring Festival holiday.”
“Not a single one stayed behind?” An Tianfeng asked.
“It’s New Year’s Eve tonight, of course they should be with their families,” Yu Ningmeng replied in the same tone.
“Call them back!” An Tianfeng angrily said. Although maids usually received time off during the New Year, normally only half of them were given leave. This was clearly intentional.
“I’m not the head maid anymore, how can I make such decisions? The villa belongs to Yaoyao, you should ask Yaoyao, or call Madam Yu?” Yu Ningmeng replied in her smooth, businesslike tone.
An Tianfeng didn’t respond and hung up the phone directly.
Yu Ningmeng knew An Tianfeng must have realized she was behind this. Perfect. If An Tianfeng had actually believed her nonsense, how would she feel the joy of revenge?
Even the chairman hadn’t said anything about Xia Yu’s matter—who did An Tianfeng think he was? And he had even scolded Yaoyao away too?
Throwing her phone aside, Yu Ningmeng guessed An Tianfeng would certainly leave the villa in anger. She had prepared a small surprise for him: when An Tianfeng arrived at the coat rack in the living room, he would find his coat missing.
Since Yaoyao doesn’t live in the villa, you shouldn’t stay either. If Yaoyao left without her coat, you shouldn’t get to wear yours either!
Yu Ningmeng’s mood brightened. She sent a message to An Siyao asking where she was.
…
The train An Siyao and Xia Yu were on had already reached its destination. An Siyao replied to Yu Ningmeng’s message and looked at Xia Yu.
Xia Yu had been thinking all the way but still couldn’t figure out how to deal with An Tianfeng.
He could only wait and see if anything would change with time.
After the high-speed train stopped, Xia Yu grabbed his suitcase and walked out of the station with An Siyao. He took out his phone and dialed the taxi driver’s number he had saved earlier.
The taxi driver arrived quickly and drove Xia Yu to his doorstep.
Xia Yu’s suitcase mostly contained summer clothes—he needed to change into winter attire.
An Siyao’s suitcase had already been packed by the maid, filled with appropriate cold-weather clothing.
Xia Yu entered the electronic lock code and opened the door.
Inside the living room, Kong Hanyue and You Xue were playing video games, while Zhong Yunze and Zhong Yunxin were playing on handheld consoles together.
Zhong Yunxin had her legs propped up on the coffee table, looking unruly, but as soon as she saw An Siyao, she immediately put her legs down and sat properly, pretending to be a well-behaved child.
“You’re back!” You Xue dropped her controller, took Xia Yu’s suitcase, and started helping him unpack and organize his clothes.
You Xue was more familiar with what clothes Xia Yu should bring and where they were located.
While Xia Yu and An Siyao sat on the sofa drinking a cup of instant black tea, You Xue had already finished organizing everything.
“Let’s go!” Kong Hanyue waved her hand and led everyone to the villa’s garage.
Two cars were parked there—one was Xia Yu’s, and the other was Kong Hanyue’s.
“You’re planning to drive?” Xia Yu looked at Kong Hanyue.
Knowing her own driving skills, Kong Hanyue pulled out Zhong Yunze: “Yunze is already eighteen and has gotten his driver’s license!”
Seeing Zhong Yunze, Xia Yu had no objections. You Xue and An Siyao got into Xia Yu’s car, while Kong Hanyue and Zhong Yunxin got into Zhong Yunze’s.
Pressing the accelerator, Xia Yu drove toward the countryside.
Driving ahead, he intentionally slowed down, fearing that Zhong Yunze, who had just gotten his license, might have an accident.
Noticing that Zhong Yunze was driving steadily, Xia Yu gradually sped up and reached the rural town in just forty minutes.
The snow on the town’s roads hadn’t been fully cleared, so Xia Yu and Zhong Yunze parked at the edge of the town and walked into it.
In the center of the town, the group split up: Kong Hanyue led Zhong Yunze and Zhong Yunxin back to Kong’s house, while Xia Yu led You Xue and An Siyao toward Xia’s house.
Looking at Xia Yu’s back, Kong Hanyue had a worried expression.
She had always wanted to ask Xia Yu what exactly had happened during his meeting with An Tianfeng, but she knew she couldn’t do anything about it even if she asked, and knowing might only make things awkward.
She also couldn’t use the “Calling Yu Method,” because it was precisely Xia Yu who was involved.
Since it’s about Yu, he must be able to solve it on his own, right? Kong Hanyue thought to herself.
Xia Yu’s back disappeared down another road—the path leading to the elementary school. Across from the elementary school was the shop and house where Xia Yu’s elderly parents lived.
Xia Ye and Xia Nianhong were very surprised and delighted to see the sudden arrival of the three.
This was the first time Xia Nianhong had met An Siyao. She warmly invited An Siyao to sit down and brought fruits, snacks, and drinks to serve her.
“Thank you, Grandma,” An Siyao sweetly said.
“Oh, you’re welcome,” Xia Nianhong looked at An Siyao, growing more and more satisfied.
This girl clearly was well-mannered, educated, and refined.
After looking her fill, she pulled You Xue aside and questioned her first, learning that she was Xia Yu’s college girlfriend, she was delighted.
Then she called over her husband Xia Ye. Using the excuse of going to the kitchen to cook noodles, the two of them discussed An Siyao.
Their conversation could be summarized in two sentences:
Xia Nianhong: “I think she’s great.”
Xia Ye: “Same here.”
Then they called Xia Yu over and questioned him.
They mainly asked about An Siyao’s education and family background.
Xia Ye clapped his hands: “Piano? Piano is wonderful! It’s high-class and has a Western touch.”
Xia Nianhong nodded repeatedly: “Her father and maternal grandfather are both well-known wealthy tycoons? Very good, very good.”
After asking around, the two were even more satisfied with An Siyao and then pressed Xia Yu about when they would get married.
After great effort to deal with their questions, Xia Yu returned to the living room.
As soon as he sat down, An Siyao grabbed his hand. The girl seemed a bit nervous.
“Grandpa and Grandma really like you,” Xia Yu held An Siyao’s hand and comforted her.
“Mm,” An Siyao felt slightly reassured.
There wasn’t much to do in the countryside, so the two sat on the sofa together watching TV. You Xue also sat on the sofa for a while, but seeing Xia Yu and An Siyao holding hands, she felt somewhat uncomfortable and went back to her room to play on the computer.
After about ten minutes, a sound came from the door.
“Grandpa and Grandma, I’m back!” a little girl’s voice rang out.
