Chapter 249: Goodbye Yan Wei

“Xia Yu, come out and play basketball tomorrow,” said Gui Zixiao’s voice through the phone.

“Aren’t you supposed to be obsessed with games?” Xia Yu asked, surprised.

“My mom took away both my laptop and handheld game console today,” Gui Zixiao replied with a strong tone of resentment.

He had been living too recklessly these days, so his mom confiscated his sources of entertainment, leaving him no choice but to go out and play basketball.

“I still have some; do you want to join?” Xia Yu tempted him. “Not just handheld consoles, I’ve got home consoles too.”

“No, no, if I borrow them, my mom will just take them away again. It won’t work. So, will you come tomorrow?” Gui Zixiao asked again.

“Okay,” Xia Yu agreed.

This week, Xia Yu had been heavily restricted at Xu Youxiang’s place and wanted to get some proper physical activity.

“Great, I’ll invite others too. I’ll tell you the time and place later,” Gui Zixiao said before hanging up.

After putting down the phone, Xia Yu petted the black cat beside him for a while, left his bedroom, and prepared to go downstairs for a walk. After a week without using his legs, he almost forgot he could walk at all.

As he passed through the living room, he met Youxue.

“Brother, you’re back?” Recognizing Xia Yu, Youxue said joyfully.

“Yeah,” Xia Yu glanced at the sky outside the window; it was almost evening now.

It wouldn’t be too hot for a walk at this time.

“Tomorrow, I’m going to have cake with Lili and Vivi. Do you want to come?” Youxue invited Xia Yu.

“What would I do if I went with you three to eat cake?” Xia Yu wasn’t interested in accompanying three girls shopping.

“We can go to other shops then. Vivi specially asked if you’d come,” Youxue looked at Xia Yu with a pleading gaze.

The girl was leaning on the armrest of the sofa, her head and two little paws sticking out like a cat.

Having learned to use her charm, the girl finally mastered the art of coaxing.

Xia Yu agreed.

Delighted, Youxue picked up her phone to report the good news to the Yan sisters.

Xia Yu walked out of the house and strolled around the neighborhood.

He then called Gui Zixiao to say he couldn’t make it tomorrow because of something else.

Gui Zixiao expressed his deep regret.

After walking around and returning home, Xia Yu discovered an unpleasant matter since his return.

Youxue’s cooking wasn’t as good as the chef at Xu Youxiang’s place.

Xia Yu thought that now Yan Wei had returned, he should figure out a way to lure the girl to his house to cook for him.

After dinner, Xia Yu was dragged by Youxue to watch cartoons for two hours before returning to his bedroom and entering Xu Youxiang’s body.

It was now time to take the medicine.

The medicine showed no abnormalities. After taking it, he slept for eight hours and then returned to his own body. He and Youxue went out together, heading to the meeting place agreed upon with the Yan sisters.

It was a park.

In the past, their families lived close by, so Youxue and Yan Li could easily walk to each other’s homes. But now that they lived far apart, they had to agree on a meeting place.

Halfway through the subway ride, Youxue received a call from Yan Li.

“Xue Xue, my sister locked me outside!” Yan Li’s voice came through.

“Why did Vivi lock you up?” Youxue asked, puzzled.

“Not locking me up exactly. We’re all outside, but my sister forgot to bring the keys. We didn’t take our wallets either, and Dad doesn’t have a key either. I can only wait for Mom to come back,” Yan Li explained.

Youxue said “oh” in understanding, realizing Yan Li was going to stand them up.

“It’ll only take about ten minutes, so you two can hang out in the park for a while!”

Hearing that the delay wouldn’t be too long, Youxue agreed again.

After hanging up, Youxue shrugged her hands at Xia Yu: “That’s how it is.”

“Then we’ll wait,” Xia Yu said indifferently.

The subway arrived quickly, and the two reached the park.

It was a sports park, containing tennis courts, badminton courts, basketball courts, football fields, and more, diverse and comprehensive.

However, this also meant the park had no particularly nice scenery, only people sweating under the sun.

Youxue had absolutely no interest in such a park where she couldn’t take photos.

“Shall we get something to eat?” Xia Yu suggested.

“Great idea!” Youxue immediately agreed.

Just as the two were about to head to the street across, a voice called out to Xia Yu.

Turning around, Xia Yu saw one of his classmates. The classmate waved excitedly at Xia Yu and quickly approached him.

“What are you doing here? Come on, let’s play basketball!” the classmate invited.

Xia Yu looked at Youxue beside him. The classmate, standing right next to him, was impossible to miss.

Despite this, the classmate still excitedly invited Xia Yu to play basketball.

This must be a classic example of destined loneliness.

Xia Yu was about to refuse, but Youxue grabbed his hand. “Brother, let’s play basketball. last time I filmed you playing badly with my phone, this time I’ll use the camera!”

Xia Yu really wanted to tell the girl that the poor filming was due to her skill level.

“Let’s go,” Youxue had already started pulling Xia Yu toward the park.

Following her lead, Xia Yu walked to the basketball court and saw Gui Zixiao there.

Gui Zixiao and his friends had indeed arranged to meet here.

“You came again, Xia Yu?” Gui Zixiao looked at Xia Yu in surprise.

“I came out for a walk and just happened to pass by. I’ll leave once the others arrive,” Xia Yu replied.

“Then play with us for a bit,” Gui Zixiao decided.

They originally didn’t have enough players, so they could play half-court.

After the teams were divided, they started the jump ball.

Xia Yu’s team had a tall guy, while Gui Zixiao’s team was represented by Gui Zixiao himself.

The ball was tossed into the air. Gui Zixiao grabbed it first and, grinning proudly, ran toward the basket. After only three steps, he felt a gust of wind pass by his side, and the ball was gone.

Xia Yu had taken the ball.

“Don’t let him shoot a three-pointer!” Knowing Xia Yu’s three-point shooting ability, Gui Zixiao shouted loudly.

Two teammates immediately surrounded Xia Yu, but Xia Yu easily maneuvered past them.

Dribbling the ball and sprinting forward, Xia Yu’s breathing quickened. He felt oxygen entering his lungs, being absorbed by his blood, and transported throughout his body.

This was an experience he hadn’t had at all during the past week at Xu Youxiang’s place. Spending a week there was like lying in bed for a week. Now, he could finally unleash his physical strength.

His body temperature rose, and his passion soared.

The last player, a burly one, stood under the basket with arms wide open, waiting for Xia Yu. But Xia Yu didn’t even reach him. Right in front of the basket, he tightly gripped the ball, lowered his body, and powerfully jumped up.

His body stretched mid-air, and he slammed the ball into the hoop.

A cat’s jumping ability is amazing. Xia Yu, with his agility, had an outstanding leaping ability too.

His hand touched the edge of the hoop but didn’t grab it. The park’s hoops are so unstable that even a ball hitting them could bring them down, let alone the weight of a person.

After he landed, there was a long silence.

“Holy crap!” Gui Zixiao was the first to speak. “Your jumping ability is too crazy!”

“Not really. A 1.7m dunk is somewhat impressive, but could this actually qualify for a professional game?” Another classmate joined in.

“Not just the jump, his skills are top-notch too!” the classmates chimed in.

“Let’s not talk about this. Let’s play ball,” Xia Yu said, his excitement not yet fully released.

Fifteen minutes later, Yan Wei and Yan Li arrived, witnessing a dominant Xia Yu on the court.

Yan Wei stopped Youxue from calling out to Xia Yu and watched him on the court. Compared to his usual calm demeanor, the passionate and fiery Xia Yu had a unique charm.

Her eyes involuntarily became dreamy.
