Chapter 201: The Three Don’ts

In the morning, Xia Yu woke up at eight o’clock and went to the kitchen to look for breakfast, but there was none either on the table or inside the fridge.

After closing the fridge door, Xia Yu noticed a note stuck on it.

『Bad big brother gets no breakfast! (Check the back)』

Flipping the note over, Xia Yu saw another line of writing.

『The bread is underneath; take it out and heat it before eating.』

Opening the freezer compartment at the bottom of the fridge, Xia Yu found the bread.

It was quite cold.

Carrying the bread, Xia Yu went to the living room sofa and watched a movie while finishing breakfast.

Two hours later, when Xia Yu arrived at Yin Shulan’s place, it was already ten in the morning.

Yin Shulan was preparing lunch.

Xia Yu grabbed the vegetables she was cleaning and tossed them aside. “What are you cooking? We’re taking Lingling out for lunch.”

He was trying to avoid helping with the cooking.

From the rabbits in the kitchen, he selected two fat ones and brought them to the workbench in the yard.

After tying up the rabbits, Xia Yu took out his phone, which he had bought when he was in town.

Yin Shulan had been upset about the expense initially, but since Xia Yu earned the money himself, she didn’t complain much.

Clicking into a browser, Xia Yu downloaded an e-book online.

It was an ancient medical formula book.

Since ancient prescriptions were no longer of much practical use, it was easy to find such books online.

Whether it was effective or not didn’t matter much to Xia Yu—as long as it could be used to gain experience.

Moreover, the records in this book were much more detailed than what Yin Shulan had explained. The dosages were clearly specified in exact grams, so there was no need to guess how much “a little” meant.

Although these measurements were intended for humans, considering that animals are humanity’s best friends, using them on rabbits should be fine too.

Only a bit of the previous experience card had been used. Xia Yu clicked “Continue” and began gaining experience.

By noon at twelve o’clock, when it was time to pick up Yin Ling, Xia Yu had already raised his medicine-making skill to Level 2.

This time, some basic knowledge of herbal combinations appeared in his mind.

After putting the rabbits away, Xia Yu hopped on his motorcycle and headed toward the town.

When he arrived at the school gate, the dismissal bell had already rung five minutes earlier.

He had been thinking a bit about the next experimental formula on the way, driving a little slower than usual.

However, five minutes wasn’t long enough for the girls to chat much, so there was no problem yet—most students hadn’t come out yet either.

Sitting on the motorcycle, Xia Yu continued pondering the next experimental formula.

Maybe he should try some tonic formulas? He recalled Yin Wan’s pale face in the western room.

But these rabbits were already plump and well-fed; giving them tonics wouldn’t show much effect.

He should go back and find two rabbits and starve them for three days.

After making this decision, Xia Yu relaxed and looked around.

Other parents picking up their children, noticing Xia Yu, quickly averted their eyes.

While Xia Yu was deep in thought, these people had been staring at him the whole time.

An old lady in a leather jacket riding a motorcycle naturally drew attention wherever she went.

Yin Shulan’s face was naturally a bit stern, and Xia Yu’s attire and demeanor gave off an even more intimidating vibe, making him seem even more formidable than common hooligans.

Everyone around kept a noticeable distance from Xia Yu.

He quite liked it that way—it would save his beloved granddaughter from struggling to find him after school.

However, after most of the other parents had picked up their children and left, Xia Yu still hadn’t seen Yin Ling come out.

After waiting another three minutes and considering whether he should go inside to check, Yin Ling finally walked out.

“Why are you so late?” Xia Yu grabbed the girl’s hand.

Through telepathy, he sensed a very comfortable feeling from Yin Ling, which was why he liked the girl so much.

It had absolutely nothing to do with the fact that she looked somewhat like An Siyao.

“Just talked to a classmate for a bit,” Yin Ling replied.

This was a perfectly normal reason, so Xia Yu didn’t think much of it. He took Yin Ling with him to a small restaurant.

The sound of the motorcycle attracted everyone’s attention inside the restaurant.

They were still stunned when the rider with white hair walked in.

Are elderly people this trendy nowadays?

The waiter was the first to recover. He approached Xia Yu and handed him a menu.

The menu had very few dishes—probably only enough to fill one table.

“That’s all?” Xia Yu, accustomed to dining in high-end hotels, felt somewhat dissatisfied.

“Well, that’s all we have—small business, small business,” the waiter replied with a smile, while thinking to himself:

How many dishes can you eat anyway? Complaining about too few?

At this moment, Xia Yu had already scanned the menu and started ordering, pointing at several items.

Seeing that he was pointing at stir-fried leeks, vegetable fried rice, and another dish, the waiter internally rolled his eyes. He’s ordering just these three and still complaining about too few dishes?

“Alright, these three dishes then?” The waiter stretched his neck to shout the order to the kitchen.

But at this moment, Xia Yu shook his head. “Don’t bring these three. Bring one of everything else.”

“Huh?” Not only the waiter, but also the surrounding customers looked at Xia Yu in surprise.

“I want to try everything and see what’s good,” Xia Yu said, pulling out a red banknote. “Here’s the money in advance.”

Seeing that Xia Yu actually paid, the waiter’s and customers’ gazes changed to admiration. No wonder this old lady in a leather jacket riding a motorcycle spends so extravagantly on a meal.

Because Xia Yu was a big customer, the dishes came out quickly. But after taking a couple of bites, Xia Yu lost interest—food in this remote area wasn’t particularly tasty.

Yin Ling, however, was eating happily. Even during previous New Year celebrations, she hadn’t eaten so many dishes.

The meal lasted half an hour. When they were about to leave, Yin Ling still looked longingly at the half-finished dishes on the table.

Because she was too full, Yin Ling couldn’t climb onto the motorcycle herself, so Xia Yu lifted her on.

Arriving at the school, Xia Yu stopped the motorcycle and watched Yin Ling walk toward the school gate.

Earlier, when they were walking together, he hadn’t noticed, but now, watching her retreating figure, Xia Yu sensed something was off.

He got off the motorcycle, rushed forward, and grabbed Yin Ling’s hand.

“What happened to your leg?” Xia Yu noticed that Yin Ling was limping slightly.

“I hit it on a chair,” Yin Ling said evasively.

“How did you hit it?” Xia Yu narrowed his eyes.

Under his questioning, Yin Ling finally told the truth.

A bully in her class had seen her eating candy yesterday and demanded she bring some to “pay tribute” today, but she hadn’t brought any, leading to a conflict.

“She didn’t do it on purpose. She even gave me three candies to stop me from telling anyone,” Yin Ling said nervously while pulling out three candies from her pocket, fearing that Xia Yu might confiscate them.

“I’ll buy you candies. But bullying like this shouldn’t be tolerated,” Xia Yu said, holding Yin Ling’s hand and walking with her back into the school.

The security guard tried to stop them but, after receiving one glare from Xia Yu, sat back down on his stool, pretending not to have seen anything.
