Chapter 11: The Bankrupt Protagonist and the Panicked Hamster

Clang—

The hamster hit the cage again.

Satisfied with the hamster’s reaction and proud of his ability to scare whenever he wanted, Xia Yu continued practicing.

However, after half an hour, the hamster developed immunity. No matter what creature it was, if it continuously saw the same scenario—even if it was terrifying—it would no longer feel fear.

Xia Yu then began searching for different ways to scare the hamster.

From skyfall scares, behind-enemy-lines ambushes, to feints and more…

These various methods kept the hamster panicked for an hour, but after that, it became accustomed again.

It realized that the creature in front was all bark and no bite—it couldn’t actually enter the cage.

Seeing that intimidation no longer worked, Xia Yu knew it was time to escalate.

The hamster thought it was safe and therefore unafraid. Thus, Xia Yu decided to destroy its sense of security by attacking its safe zone.

However, letting the hamster run loose inside his room wasn’t wise.

He first opened the bedroom door, then pounced on the cage, shaking it with both paws and gnashing his teeth at it.

The hamster panicked slightly but remained relatively calm—until Xia Yu opened the cage and dumped it out.

Seeing its safe haven tossed onto the cabinet by the black cat, the hamster completely lost its composure. It wanted to run under the bed, but Xia Yu batted it toward the living room.

After closing the bedroom door, Xia Yu ran in front of the hamster, meowed loudly while puffing up his fur.

The hamster dug its four paws into the floor tiles, stopping its forward motion, then darted right.

Xia Yu ran to the right again and puffed his fur up with another meow.

An hour later, Xia Yu lay resting on the balcony, allowing the hamster to rest as well.

Five minutes later, he resumed the chase.

To keep the hamster actively fearful, he even endured nausea to lightly bite it and fling it aside.

Another hour passed, entering another halftime break. Xia Yu lay on the sofa while the hamster clung to the chair leg.

At that moment, a door opened—it was the door to Youxue’s room.

The girl stepping out immediately noticed the black cat on the sofa but didn’t spot the hamster clinging to the chair leg.

She picked up the black cat, stroking its fur while examining its body.

After confirming the cat was fine, she sighed in relief.

It seemed her older brother hadn’t abused the cat. The earlier noises were just him playing with it.

Still, it was strange that he immediately locked himself in his room to play with the cat upon coming home.

Smoothing out the cat’s disheveled fur, Youxue headed toward the bathroom.

Xia Yu, held in Youxue’s arms, looked puzzled, not understanding why the girl had brought him to the bathroom.

It wasn’t until the girl closed the bathroom door and started undressing that he realized the situation.

This girl really had no sense of caution—randomly entering the bathroom with a cat like this, not knowing that the cat might harbor a human soul inside?

Standing up, Xia Yu headed toward the door. He was a cat with ideals and morals—how could he possibly do something like this?

However, as he reached the door, Youxue suddenly grabbed him with a laugh.

“No bath, no way!” The girl held tightly, and Xia Yu couldn’t break free.

“…”

Opening his mouth, Xia Yu pretended to bite Youxue’s fingers.

The girl immediately panicked and loosened her grip. He seized the chance to open the door and ran out.

After closing the door securely, he even locked it.

Such a careless younger sister was really worrying for a cat.

Startled by Xia Yu’s sudden escape, Youxue didn’t go out to look for him.

After hearing the sound of water flowing in the bathroom, Xia Yu relaxed.

He approached the dining table, looking at the chair leg.

Huh? Where did my hamster go?

It was so big and was just here moments ago—how could it suddenly disappear?

He searched the living room, checking under the sofa and cabinets, but couldn’t find the hamster.

Where did it go?

With such a tiny body, it couldn’t possibly climb to any high places!

Scratching his head, he searched the living room again, then checked all three bedrooms, still finding nothing.

Sitting on the sofa, Xia Yu fell into deep thought—where could the hamster have gone?

After a while, Youxue finished bathing and walked out wearing pajamas.

Carefully approaching Xia Yu, she extended her hand.

Thinking she wanted to hold him, Xia Yu obediently stretched out his paws.

But Youxue suddenly withdrew her hand.

“Stinky cat, I won’t hug you!” Saying that, the girl giggled and walked into her bedroom.

Although Xia Yu knew Youxue was likely retaliating for earlier, he still felt somewhat anxious.

What if his little angel sister rejected him now?

He sniffed himself but didn’t detect any odor. Considering that cats’ sense of smell might differ from humans’, Xia Yu decided to take a bath himself.

He went to the bathroom, placed Xiadongyang’s basin under the faucet, and began filling it with water.

The faucet was a bit high—he needed to jump to reach the handle.

After filling the basin, he extended a paw to test the water temperature. Just as he was about to get in, he noticed an unexpected guest.

In the corner where bath products were placed, a gray hamster clung to the shampoo bottle, trembling in fear.

Lowering his head, Xia Yu calmly analyzed and thought carefully:

1. The hamster was in the bathroom.

2. Youxue had just taken a bath here.

“…”

“Meow—!”

“Squeak—!”

The hamster was bitten by the black cat and flung into the living room.

Canceling the hamster’s halftime break, Xia Yu chased it relentlessly until 2 a.m., venting his frustration before finally capturing it and returning to his own body.

Sitting up on the bed, he glanced at the hamster on the floor. The exhausted hamster, sensing safety, had already fallen asleep.

The black cat was also sleeping on the spot.

He lifted the hamster cage, jostled the hamster awake, and placed it beside the black cat.

“Squeak squeak squeak!”

Pressing itself against the farthest corner from the black cat, the hamster trembled in fear.

Satisfied with the hamster’s reaction, Xia Yu sat at the desk and opened the skill panel.

Seeing the 【Intimidation Lv1】 displayed, he smiled.

Focusing on the hamster again, he recalled the feeling of puffing up his fur and used intimidation.

“Squeak—!” The hamster felt the giant creature in front of it suddenly swell in size, grow fangs in its mouth, and glare with fierce eyes.

Its body stiffened and it collapsed inside the cage.

Lifting the cage, seeing that the hamster had only fainted, Xia Yu sighed in relief.

He planned to reuse this hamster.

Now that he had the intimidation skill, he felt more confident in dealing with the head maid.

After reading for a while out of boredom, he recalled being carried to the bathroom by Youxue.

Come to think of it, Youxue seemed to be developing rather quickly.

Her old undergarments were probably becoming too small for her now.

At 7:30, after washing up and having breakfast, Xia Yu called out to his sister.

“Hmm?” Youxue looked at him in confusion.

From his pocket, Xia Yu pulled out 200 yuan. After thinking for a moment, he added another 300.

“Go buy some new clothes,” he said.

Sensing Xia Yu’s gaze, Youxue understood what he had noticed.

If she were an ordinary sister, she might have given her older brother a look of disdain or at least felt embarrassed, but Youxue could be Xia Yu’s little angel precisely because she was different from those “dramatic” girls.

The girl hugged Xia Yu. “So my brother noticed already. Impressive.”

However, she only took one banknote. “This is more than enough. Just one hundred will do.”

“This outfit should be of better quality. Take the rest and spend it as you wish.” Patting the girl’s head, though feeling a twinge of heartache over his remaining 2,500 yuan savings, Xia Yu still handed all the money to her.

Today, I’ll deal with the head maid, then fully focus on learning piano quickly!

At this rate, I’ll go bankrupt before I can even earn money!
