Chapter 164: Terrifying Explosion

“Hehe, since that’s the case, leave your life here!”

The figure in the black robe flickered and rushed toward Li Tan at an incredible speed.

“You won’t kill me unless I try to escape like that, right?”

Li Tan mocked, his eyes sharpening. Qi surged within him as he dodged sideways using the Moye Step, perfectly evading the black-robed man’s attack.

What an eerie technique! The black-robed man was surprised that Li Tan had dodged his strike. Immediately afterward, he swung his sword toward where Li Tan had moved, but still missed.

Li Tan leaped upward and landed on a tree branch, looking down at the black-robed man from above.

Damn it, killing him might be harder than expected. If the Heaven Wolf Sect notices, it will become troublesome.

The black-robed man glared at Li Tan unwillingly. “You’re lucky,” he said coldly before turning to leave. However, whoosh! Li Tan flipped through the air and blocked the escape route the black-robed man had intended to use.

“Seeking death?”

The black-robed man stared at Li Tan furiously.

“I originally had no intention of harming you, but since you came willingly, I have no reason to let you go.”

Compared to the rationality of avoiding unnecessary attention, Li Tan’s heart ultimately succumbed to the emotion driven by hatred.

If I capture him, maybe I can prevent his suicide and pry some information from him.

Sensing the killing intent in Li Tan’s eyes, the black-robed man said grimly, “Don’t overestimate yourself. If this place weren’t so close to the Heaven Wolf Sect, you’d already be a corpse.”

“Hehe, aren’t you people always emphasizing secrecy as the top priority for your operations?

Then how dare you let me go now?”

Li Tan asked mockingly.

The black-robed man slightly furrowed his brows; beneath his hood, his pupils revealed a glint of killing intent. “How much do you actually know?”

“How much do I know?

Are you referring to your organization?” Li Tan replied calmly, his expression betraying no emotion. Yet, inexplicably, the black-robed man felt threatened. “I’d love to answer that I know everything about you, but unfortunately, I don’t know much. Therefore, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind enlightening me a bit, right?”

Previously, the black-robed man had considered Li Tan merely someone with a special purpose at the Heaven Wolf Sect who had coincidentally stumbled upon him, and letting him go wouldn’t have much consequence.

But now, with just this simple exchange, Li Tan had already made it onto the black-robed man’s kill list.

The sword, already sheathed, was drawn again. The black-robed man swiftly hurled several hidden weapons, then dashed toward Li Tan by stepping on the nearby trees. Suddenly, his sword blade was surrounded by a strange, black, lightning-like energy—whether it was Qi or not remained unknown.

This mysterious energy brought back a long-forgotten sense of danger for Li Tan, yet he remained completely calm.

As the saying goes, “Know yourself and know your enemy, and you will win a hundred battles.” From the events at Linjiang, Li Tan had gained some understanding of the black-robed men’s techniques. Currently, he knew that this black, lightning-like energy—whether Qi or not—was extremely dangerous. It not only provided a significant boost, far surpassing ordinary Qi, but also could invade an opponent’s meridians upon contact. Additionally, through unknown methods, it could rapidly enhance one’s strength within a short period.

Li Tan knew he absolutely couldn’t allow the opponent to exploit these advantages, or things would become slightly complicated if the Heaven Wolf Sect noticed.

Without hesitation, Li Tan immediately consumed half of his spiritual energy to unleash a Spiritual Storm.

After breaking through to the Xiantian (Innate) stage, his spiritual energy was three to four times stronger than when he was at the Houtian (Acquired) stage. Therefore, using half of it now was equivalent to his previous full power.

In midair, the black-robed man was instantly slammed to the ground. Before he could recover from the shock, Li Tan had already appeared before him, brandishing a rusty sword and swinging it downward.

Although the black-robed man didn’t understand what had happened, his reaction was swift. Instantly, he brought his sword up defensively, preparing to counterattack.

But something unexpected occurred—the seemingly fragile, rusted blade actually severed his black iron sword effortlessly and came to rest against his throat. If Li Tan wished, he could kill him in an instant.

However, the blade stopped there without further action.

“Tell me everything you know.”

To prevent the opponent from using his own sword to commit suicide, Li Tan slightly shifted the blade outward while speaking.

The black-robed man clenched his jaw tightly, saying nothing, his eyes revealing a deathly resolve.

Trying to bite a poison capsule again?

Li Tan sneered contemptuously, then forcefully grabbed the black-robed man’s chin with his left hand, preventing him from biting through the poison capsule.

The black-robed man began to panic but couldn’t utter a sound. Li Tan channeled his spiritual energy into the man’s mouth, searching through his teeth for the suicide capsule. Then, with a single punch, he shattered the capsule along with the man’s teeth. “If you want a quick death, tell me everything you know. What organization are you from, and what do you want from the Heaven Wolf Sect?”

The black-robed man trembled violently from the pain. Suddenly, however, he let out an extremely unpleasant, grating laugh. He slightly raised his head, fixing Li Tan with a bloodshot stare: “I’ll be waiting for you below!”

Each word was spoken with effort, his facial expression rapidly twisting as if enduring indescribable pain—even Li Tan was startled.

What does that mean?

Li Tan was momentarily stunned. Then he sensed a powerful surge of Qi. Red, glowing cracks suddenly appeared on the black-robed man’s face, spreading downward from his neck.

Although Li Tan didn’t understand what was happening, driven by an intense sense of danger, he immediately backflipped and rapidly sprinted backward, increasing the distance between himself and the black-robed man.

In an instant.

Boom! A crimson beam of light shot into the sky along with the explosion. Li Tan was thrown off his feet by the shockwave and slammed hard onto the ground.

Fortunately, he had reacted quickly enough. Now, he only suffered minor external injuries. He stood up, his expression heavy as he gazed at the spot where the black-robed man had been. The nearby trees had completely vanished, replaced by a massive crater, as if struck by a meteor.

“I originally thought the black-robed organization used poison to kill anyone who might leak secrets, but now it seems otherwise,” Li Tan recalled the black-robed man’s horrifying, twisted expression and couldn’t help but frown. “It’s likely the poison is voluntarily carried, for a more painless death.” Slightly shaking his head to clear his disturbed thoughts, Li Tan sensed several approaching presences and quickly left the area.

The black-robed organization had hidden their existence so perfectly that even in his previous life, Li Tan had found no trace of them. It was easy to deduce that it would be nearly impossible to extract useful information from a single member. Moreover, most likely, even the black-robed men themselves might not fully understand what their organization truly did.

After calming down and thinking rationally, Li Tan couldn’t help but sigh—he had attempted to gain an advantage but ended up losing and, worse, alerting them.

Returning to the wooden hut, Li Tan sat in silence for a long time before regaining his composure.
