Chapter 87: Sogot’s Cloth Boots

Nie Yan picked up the box and opened it. Inside lay quietly a pair of broken cloth boots, delicate and crystalline, exuding waves of magical energy.

It was definitely the real thing. Seeing the dazzling luster of the Sogort’s Cloth Boots, Nie Yan nearly gasped for breath.

In his previous life, legendary equipment had been an unattainable dream. Even fragments of legendary items had commanded exorbitant prices. After becoming an Assassin, Nie Yan had only ever obtained one legendary fragment, a broken chestplate usable only by warriors. To survive, he had been forced to sell it. With the money from selling that broken chestplate, Nie Yan bought a set of high-grade dark golden equipment for Rogues and purchased lucky gems to upgrade the set to +9, with considerable funds remaining.

This illustrates just how valuable such items were.

After Sogort’s Shadow was dismantled, it transformed into Sogort’s Cloth Boots, Sogort’s Feather, and Sogort’s Cloth Scroll.

Only by gathering all three parts could the magic within restore them to their original form.

Sogort’s Cloth Boots (Legendary Fragment): Requires Strength 130.

Item Description: Sogort’s Shadow has been divided into three parts. The Cloth Boots still retain scattered magical energy and can still be used. Sogort’s Shadow Fragments: Sogort’s Cloth Boots, Sogort’s Feather, Sogort’s Cloth Scroll. You must find the remaining fragments to restore its original form.

Attributes: Agility +30, Speed +10, Jump +10, Stealth +10, Concealment +10, Reflex +10. Comes with Level 3 Pickpocketing skill and Level 3 Shadow Dance skill. Additional Stealth +30, Concealment +30, Movement Speed +30. Cannot be detected for 6 seconds; after 10 seconds, has a certain probability of being detected per round.

As a legendary fragment, the attributes of Sogort’s Cloth Boots were indeed impressive, enhancing speed, jump, stealth, concealment, and reflex, while also providing two skills: Level 3 Pickpocketing and Level 3 Shadow Dance. Pickpocketing and Shadow Dance were both level-30 skills, learnable only after reaching level 30. To upgrade Pickpocketing and Shadow Dance beyond level 3, one would need to be at least level 40.

Pickpocketing could yield extra gains from monsters or players, but only items in their backpacks could be stolen, not equipment worn on their person. The success rate of pickpocketing and the items obtained were related to both parties’ levels. The success rate calculation was quite complex. Usually, only money could be stolen, with rare cases yielding equipment. As for Shadow Dance, it was a useful skill for escaping or stealth. Six seconds was plenty of time to do many things. Being undetectable did not mean invincibility, just that the opponent couldn’t see you. A round was 3 seconds, meaning that after 6 seconds, every 3 seconds there would be a detection check. The opponent would either detect you at that moment or wait for the next round to check again.

“Requiring 130 strength? That’s way too high,” Nie Yan frowned. His strength was still 73 points short. Such a high strength requirement was extremely harsh for a Rogue, since Rogues were an agility-based class and didn’t invest many points into strength. If he invested all his attribute points into strength and none into agility, leveling up in the future would be very difficult. Fortunately, this equipment could compensate for 30 points of agility. “Damn it, I just lost 10 points of strength earlier!”

Under normal attribute distribution, an average player would need to reach level 40 to have 60 strength points. With good equipment, a player could reach 130 strength around level 30.

Nie Yan had lost 10 points of strength, otherwise he should have been able to reach 130 strength before level 25.

Being able to wear this equipment only at level 30 was just too slow.

“I have to find a way to increase my strength,” Nie Yan thought. Earlier, when he saw the Level 3 Pickpocketing on Sogort’s Shadow, his eyes had lit up. He understood better than anyone what having Level 3 Pickpocketing in the early stages could bring.

Reaching 130 strength wasn’t impossible. Nie Yan’s mind started working on possibilities, and he could achieve it even before level 15!

Now wasn’t the time to think about that. Nie Yan put the Sogort’s Cloth Boots into his bag. The Dark Gladiator trembled slightly, and Nie Yan felt a sudden sense of danger. This place was no longer safe; he needed to escape quickly!

Just as this thought crossed his mind, he suddenly saw a terrifying sight. In the coffin, Serestolt’s eye sockets suddenly ignited with a flicker of green flame, just a small flame, flickering continuously.

But this was undoubtedly a dangerous signal. The creature inside the coffin would soon resurrect!

Nie Yan didn’t dare to linger. He sprinted toward the entrance, only to suddenly discover that the pool at the entrance had been sealed by rocks!

When Nie Yan had opened the golden coffin, the exit had already been sealed shut.

Nie Yan checked his Recall Scroll—it was still usable! He had already verified it when he arrived here, as this wasn’t an enclosed space.

At that moment, a tall figure inside the golden coffin was slowly sitting up.

No time left! Reading the Recall Scroll would take a full twenty seconds!

Without hesitation, Nie Yan began reading the Recall Scroll. A bright light emanated from the scroll covered in ancient script. A faint glow enveloped Nie Yan, and a glowing magical teleportation circle appeared around him.

Time ticked away second by second.

Serestolt rose from the golden coffin, clad in golden armor and wielding a golden greatsword, like a king.

In life, he had been a powerful lord who ruled Sogort City. After his death and burial here, he had become an Undead.

Serestolt (Undead): Level 15 Lord, HP 50000/50000.

The health of a Lord-class creature was consistently terrifyingly high. Nie Yan understood that even a team of level-15 elites might struggle to defeat Serestolt, let alone the current situation where Nie Yan was alone. If he moved too slowly, he would certainly die here.

Three seconds, four seconds, five seconds—time passed quietly.

Nie Yan’s heart was extremely tense.

Serestolt’s green-glowing eyes locked onto Nie Yan. A powerful, chilling aura radiated from him as he took steps toward Nie Yan.

With Serestolt’s attack power, a single strike from his sword would instantly kill Nie Yan without any doubt. Nie Yan’s health couldn’t withstand even one hit, not even a shield-wielding warrior of the same level could.

Serestolt approached gradually. Nie Yan felt the danger drawing closer, but he couldn’t move. If he moved even slightly, the teleportation circle would become invalid.

“Damn it, not enough time,” Nie Yan muttered, glancing sideways at the Dark Gladiator standing nearby awaiting commands. He quickly issued an order to the Dark Gladiator.

Without hesitation, the Dark Gladiator stepped forward to block Nie Yan’s path. Despite its naturally low intelligence and instinctive fear of Serestolt, it was absolutely loyal to Nie Yan. In its mind, it would protect Nie Yan even at the cost of its own life.
