At the headquarters of the Divine Tribe guild, Clarence Fortress, the guild leader, Divine King, was going through reports from various branches of the guild.
Dozens of top-level experts from the Divine Tribe had gathered here, murmuring among themselves.
“Boss Divine King, Deep Autumn’s Cold Wind just sent a message: the Blood Demon Knight Legion has already set out to intercept the Rogue Bandit Nie Yan,” a rogue approached and whispered beside him.
“The Blood Demon Knight squad moves pretty fast. But does Blood Demon really think he can take down Rogue Bandit Nie Yan so easily? His thinking is too simplistic,” Divine King remarked with a faint smile.
“It’s said that Blood Demon has some backup plans.”
“Rogue Bandit Nie Yan isn’t that easy to kill. Let them fight among themselves. How is Deep Autumn’s Cold Wind doing?” Divine King asked.
“He just obtained the real-world addresses of three members of the Blood Demon Knights.”
“Good. Let him continue,” said the Divine King. In truth, Deep Autumn’s Cold Wind had already been under the Divine King’s control for nine months, so every action of the Blood Demon Knight Regiment was under his surveillance. The Blood Demon had no idea that his every move was already known to the Divine King.
Divine King had never regarded Blood Demon as a true rival. They were on entirely different levels—he could manipulate Blood Demon effortlessly. In the entire server, there were no more than ten players he deemed worthy opponents. Among them were: Duo Duo from Angel’s Descent, Rogue Bandit Nie Yan from the Bull Man Tribe, Angel’s Dominance’s Angelic Winged Angel, and perhaps Cao Xu from Century Financial Group. There were also some hidden forces.
“Boss, the Death Scythe is currently in the possession of Rogue Bandit Nie Yan. The Blood Demon Knight Legion stands no chance of killing him. Should we dispatch our guild members to ambush him? Just give the command, and I can select several thousand elite players to disguise themselves and set up an ambush,” the rogue proposed.
“No matter how we disguise, do you think the Bull Man Tribe’s intelligence network is useless? They’ll definitely trace it back to us,” Divine King shook his head.
The rogue argued, “Even if the Bull Man Tribe discovers it was us, we can feign ignorance. After all, the Bull Man Tribe is too preoccupied to retaliate against our Demon Offspring Tribe. Pretending ignorance is already a gesture of respect. If we don’t disguise ourselves and openly attack Rogue Bandit Nie Yan, the Bull Man Tribe might feel humiliated and declare an all-out war against us. By disguising, even if they know it’s us, they’ll turn a blind eye.”
Divine King admitted that made sense, but he still shook his head. “Several thousand players still won’t be enough to kill Rogue Bandit Nie Yan. Even if he can’t win, he can just escape! I have my own plans. Liu Feng, come with me. The rest of you, go level up.”
The others looked enviously at the rogue named Liu Feng before dispersing.
Divine King led Liu Feng deeper into the guild headquarters. After walking along a winding corridor for about five minutes, they entered a secluded courtyard.
Liu Feng curiously looked around. The courtyard was filled with bright red hollyhocks. These were fearsome plants. According to demon legends, they bloomed and bore fruit every five years. The fruit was a powerful hallucinogenic poison that could cause death by suffocation while experiencing euphoric sensations. They were famously known as the flowers of evil. Demons often liked to use their fruits as food.
Just as Divine King and Liu Feng entered the courtyard, a deep, hoarse voice rang out, clearly annoyed.
“I said, don’t come disturbing me!”
“Honorable Lord Angud, I have important news to report to you,” Divine King said very humbly.
“If I find your so-called important news trivial, you know the consequences,” the voice replied. Moments later, a tall figure emerged. This was none other than Angud, the one mentioned by Divine King.
Liu Feng bent slightly and stole a glance at Angud. This Angud was extremely ugly, a full head taller than them. His body was very muscular. Part of his skin was smooth and white like a human’s, while another part was red and rough like a demon’s. He had a pair of horns and a thick, powerful tail behind his back, though unlike ordinary demons, he had no wings.
Liu Feng’s heart tightened. This was the legendary half-demon! He couldn’t even see Angud’s level—marked as ???—so his level must be extremely high.
Hearing the half-demon’s words, Divine King shuddered, clearly still fearful of the punishment Angud had mentioned.
Liu Feng was very puzzled. Why was Divine King so afraid of Angud?
“Honorable Lord Angud, I just received news that the Death Scythe has appeared. It’s in the hands of a mortal, currently in the Desolate Abyssal Marsh.”
“Bring the Death Scythe to me,” Angud said gravely, his eyes flashing with unusual excitement.
“Honorable Lord Angud, we are no match for him. He is extremely powerful. Besides wielding the Death Scythe, he also holds the human race’s divine artifact, the Paternoster Hammer,” Divine King said cautiously, watching Angud’s expression closely.
Angud was silent for a moment.
“He is our guild’s most promising rogue, named Liu Feng. Honorable Lord Angud, I need some capable assistance. Please grant him power,” Divine King looked at Angud.
Angud glanced at Liu Feng and said indifferently, “I cannot trust you. If this person could obtain both the Death Scythe and the Paternoster Hammer, he must possess formidable strength. I will go myself. You two may leave.”
Angud rejected Liu Feng.
Divine King looked at Angud in surprise. Initially, he had only wanted Angud to enhance Liu Feng’s strength. Liu Feng was a recently emerged member of the Divine Tribe, showing great potential. According to Liu Feng, he had gained insight by watching Rogue Bandit Nie Yan’s videos, and thus his fighting style bore a strong resemblance to Nie Yan’s, making him stand out among rogues. Divine King believed Liu Feng was the most promising candidate to catch up with Rogue Bandit Nie Yan, so he wanted to help him a bit. However, things didn’t go as planned, and Angud refused. But to his surprise and slight excitement, Angud decided to go in person.
With Angud’s strength, killing Rogue Bandit Nie Yan should be effortless.
Seeing Angud’s dismissal, Divine King and Liu Feng exited the courtyard. Looking at Liu Feng, Divine King said somewhat disappointedly, “Angud refuses to take you. I had hoped our guild could gain another Golden Wing. It seems hopeless now. But since Angud has decided to go personally, Rogue Bandit Nie Yan is certainly doomed.” At this, Divine King became somewhat excited. If Angud obtained the artifact, the first to benefit would naturally be himself!
Liu Feng glanced back toward the courtyard and pondered for a moment.
“Let’s go,” Divine King said.
Nie Yan was wreaking havoc deep within the Desolate Abyssal Marsh, leaving countless monster and player corpses in his wake. This major event quickly reached the ears of the Evil Order players: Rogue Bandit Nie Yan had returned to the Underworld! The news caused a huge stir. They hadn’t forgotten how much chaos Nie Yan caused the last time he came underground, even earning the title of “Killing God,” a title still renowned today.
News of Nie Yan wielding the Death Scythe soon spread, drawing many envious glances. The temptation of a divine artifact was immense. Nie Yan’s reputation deterred many, but there were still fearless players willing to take a chance.
As Nie Yan advanced, the ground behind him was littered with corpses, causing fear and trembling in all who heard.
A short while later, a crisp system notification sounded: the Golden Earth Dragon had leveled up!
The Golden Earth Dragon had reached level 139. Its defensive capabilities were increasing rapidly, and its scales were undergoing strange changes, becoming thicker and more textured. Checking the Golden Earth Dragon’s status, its defense level had increased another tier to level nine. Several passive skills had been enhanced, though no new skills were learned. It was estimated that new skills would be acquired at level 140, as the Golden Earth Dragon’s abilities usually advanced at round numbers after reaching higher levels.
Following Bennett’s spirit, Nie Yan proceeded along the path. After about three hours, crossing a foul-smelling marsh area, an open space appeared ahead. Spanning several thousand yards, the ground was paved with stones, making it very flat.
At the center of this area was a small tribe. There were about fifty to sixty buildings, all makeshift huts constructed from straw, looking very dilapidated. The area was quite expansive, surrounded by protective fences with some old crossbows placed on top.
This was clearly a village. In the central street, players bustled about, while vendors—some NPCs—were selling goods on both sides.
It was quite unbelievable that such a bustling village existed in the marsh.
What Nie Yan didn’t know was that before his arrival, this place had been very desolate, with almost no players coming here. But with his arrival, the place had become lively, with most players here coming for him!
The entire village was active with five or six hundred players and about twenty to thirty NPCs.
Bennett’s spirit hovered briefly in front of the village.
Was the clue inside the village?
Nie Yan wasn’t entirely sure. He remained silent for a moment. It seemed he would need to enter the village to investigate.
Many players had already noticed his approach. With the Death Scythe in his possession, many could pinpoint his location. Sneaking in would be pointless.
Nie Yan looked up at the Golden Earth Dragon. The dragon exhaled a hot breath, shaking its head.
He made a decision. Summoning the Paladin Livers and the Shadow Assassin, he slightly flicked his right hand, spinning the dagger rapidly in his palm, its cold gleam flashing. Then he strode toward the village.
The Paladin Livers, the Shadow Assassin, and the Golden Earth Dragon closely followed Nie Yan.
At that moment, players hiding in stealth, tailing Nie Yan, were stunned by the sight.
“What is Rogue Bandit Nie Yan planning? He’s actually going to enter the village!”
A single word flashed through everyone’s minds: massacre!
