Chapter 76: The Ancient City of Sojat

The final winner of this skirmish was Nie Yan. Everyone had played their part, and players like Guang An Yongzui and Candy could do nothing but bear a grudge against him.

After shaking off Guang An Yongzui and his group, Nie Yan continued heading toward his destination. The Snake Lizard had dropped a skill book, and he picked it up to examine it.

“Damn, it’s a basic resurrection!”

“Damn, it’s Primary Resurrection!”

Nie Yan couldn’t help but marvel at his luck—it was quite good. Primary Resurrection was extremely important for a team, so much so that its price had reached an absurd level. Even if priced at more than one gold coin, there would still be many teams scrambling to obtain it.

Skill Book: Primary Resurrection

Skill Description: A priest can resurrect a teammate by casting divine magic.

Casting Requirements: Verbal, somatic, and material components.

Skill Attribute: Can resurrect one teammate once after the battle ends. Casting time is ten seconds and cannot be used during combat.

Skill Cooldown: Thirty seconds

User Restriction: Can only be used by Lawful Good Priests.

Nie Yan put the Primary Resurrection skill book away. This book would be extremely valuable for some time to come, and since he wasn’t short on money, he had no intention of selling it.

After crossing through a vast thicket of bushes, Nie Yan arrived at the ruins of an ancient city in the middle of the swamp. Standing walls, though battered and broken from years of wind and rain, still faintly outlined the ancient city’s structure. At the city’s center stood a grand pyramid made of massive stone blocks. Ancient inscriptions from the Dark Age were carved onto its surface, their aged and solemn appearance giving off a heavy sense of history.

This fortress from the Dark Age had endured countless wars. No one knew exactly when or how long ago it had been abandoned by intelligent life. Now, only these walls and pillars remained, singing lonely songs through the ages.

This was definitely the ancient city.

Nie Yan walked along the city wall for a distance before finding the entrance to the ruins.

After organizing his backpack, Nie Yan stepped forward into the ruins. The area around the city gate was filled with debris. The moment he entered the city, the sky darkened, as if he had entered another dimension. Darkness enveloped the land, leaving only this eerie ancient city in sight.

System: You have entered the Sogot Barrier.

Nie Yan looked ahead. Before him stretched an endless expanse of ruins, with only the towering pyramid at the center still standing. The ground was littered with white bones.

Nie Yan felt a chilling, sinister aura rushing toward him. Suddenly, one skeleton clattered and began to move, slowly rising to its feet.

Then, countless more bones emerged from the ground. The small ones were likely dwarves in life, while the tall ones, with massive tails, were likely dragons. There were also remains of humans and giants.

This was an ancient battlefield. Every race had perished within this fortress, their spirits turning into countless vengeful souls sealed within their bones. Once they sensed the presence of the living, they would revive and seek sustenance.

Nie Yan used Super Insight to examine them.

Skeleton Pilgrim: Level 10, HP 120/120 (Extremely Fragile)

Skeleton Mage: Level 10, HP 80/80 (Extremely Fragile)

Skeleton Ravener: Level 10, HP 150/150 (Extremely Fragile)

These skeletons didn’t have high HP or strong attacks, and their “Extremely Fragile” attribute made them practically immune to the effects of level differences. However, their sheer numbers were overwhelming. The narrow corridor was filled with skeletons. Additionally, they had a special ability: stunning and bleed effects were useless against them. Stealth was also ineffective, as they located living beings not by sight but by sensing life itself.

Nie Yan kept a safe distance from these skeletal creatures and attacked any that strayed too far from the group.

He noticed a Skeleton Pilgrim wandering nearby. Nie Yan raised his dagger and charged forward, landing a critical strike and a vital point attack. The Skeleton Pilgrim shattered into pieces.

System: Defeating a monster above your level grants a 200% experience bonus. You gained 230 experience.

These skeletons might not have had strong stats, but they gave out generous experience points.

Just as Nie Yan finished off one Skeleton Pilgrim, dozens of Skeleton Pilgrims and Skeleton Raverners charged toward him, swinging their daggers like a tidal wave. Behind them, Skeleton Mages waved their staves, casting red and white lights—fire, ice, and lightning magic!

Damn it, why are there so many! Nie Yan thought in frustration. He looked behind him and saw his escape route completely blocked by a mass of skeletons. He quickly turned and ran down another path.

Though numerous, these skeletons were clumsy, so Nie Yan wasn’t too worried about being in real danger.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Magical blasts exploded around him. Nie Yan turned a corner, escaping the Skeleton Mages’ attack range, and looked ahead. A group of Skeleton Warriors was charging toward him.

With no way forward and enemies behind, Nie Yan glanced to the side. There was a wall about five yards high, its surface eroded and broken, with many holes. He took a running leap, stepped into one of the holes, and vaulted over the wall.

Nie Yan landed lightly on the other side. This was another path, where only a few Skeleton Mages wandered. The ground was littered with bones—unawakened skeletons.

Nie Yan wasted no time. He rushed toward one Skeleton Mage and drove his dagger into it. The Skeleton Mage shattered like glass.

The nearby Skeleton Mages began casting spells. Nie Yan moved like a leaping panther, swiftly eliminating them one by one. He collected the items they dropped. At that moment, the skeletons on the ground began to stir, slowly rising.

Nie Yan didn’t dare to linger and dashed forward.

As he stepped across several smooth stone slabs, he suddenly felt a faint vibration beneath his feet. Though subtle, he sensed it immediately.

A trap!

Nie Yan rolled forward just in time. With a loud explosion, a blast mine detonated where he had stood moments ago, sending shards of stone flying in all directions. Several nearby skeletons were blown away by the shockwave, their bones scattering across the ground.

Several stone fragments struck Nie Yan.

-12, -13, -15—damage numbers floated above his head.

Nie Yan felt a chill. The blast mine’s damage was truly formidable. If he had stepped on it directly, he would have been crushed to death.

Although blast mines were powerful enough to instantly kill a rogue, there was about a two-second delay between triggering and detonation. As long as one remained highly alert, it was still possible to dodge them easily.
