Chapter 73: A Secret Attack

Thieves’ hiding and stealth attributes are opposing attributes to players’ perception. When a player’s perception is 1.5 times the thief’s hiding and stealth attributes, they can easily detect the thief’s hiding and stealth. When a player’s perception equals the thief’s hiding and stealth attributes, they can notice the thief’s hiding and stealth if they focus. When the thief’s hiding and stealth attributes are significantly higher than a player’s perception, a skilled thief can completely knock you out before you even realize what’s happening.

Of course, just because you detect a thief doesn’t mean you can easily dodge their attacks, considering their high agility and attack speed.

The light and shadows twisted around. A figure’s outline appeared behind Nie Yan—it was Candy, who had disappeared earlier. His movements reached a peak as he lunged toward Nie Yan’s head.

Once knocked unconscious, within just a few seconds, the three mages’ attacks would send Nie Yan back to the graveyard.

From the moment Candy approached Nie Yan, Nie Yan detected his presence. His 19 points in perception weren’t for show. He tilted his body sideways, dodging Candy’s attack.

In a countermove, Nie Yan turned around and struck toward Candy’s face.

What a fierce attack! Candy quickly retreated, dodging Nie Yan’s strike, and the two rapidly separated.

Nie Yan actually detected him beforehand—what incredible perception! Moreover, after being attacked, he dodged swiftly and retaliated fiercely. His movements were smooth and fluid. Candy was secretly astonished. What a formidable opponent.

Currently, players’ levels were still low, and offensive techniques were limited. However, from these brief exchanges, one could judge another’s skill level.

This guy was definitely an expert, Candy thought. But precisely this made things more interesting.

The lizard suddenly lunged from the side. As the lizard drew closer, Nie Yan sidestepped and glanced toward distant bushes. With his left hand extended, he shot out a strand of spider silk.

Nie Yan pulled hard, and the powerful tension from the silk pulled him forward.

The lizard lunged again and missed. Enraged, it turned around, spotted Nie Yan, and charged again.

Nie Yan used up an acceleration scroll and rushed toward the three mages behind Guang’an Yongzui. For survival, he had no choice but to lead the lizard toward them; otherwise, he had no chance of surviving.

Guang’an Yongzui, holding a greatsword, blocked Nie Yan’s path, ready to cut him down. With Nie Yan’s fragile leather armor defense, he could kill him with just a few strikes.

Nie Yan drew closer to Guang’an Yongzui, who fixed his gaze on Nie Yan and the lizard. They inevitably had to fight the lizard, but before confronting it, they must eliminate Nie Yan first. Otherwise, Nie Yan would interfere during their fight with the lizard, causing trouble.

Nie Yan had no grudges with Guang’an Yongzui, Candy, and others, but in such situations, it was a matter of life and death.

This was the wilderness, where survival depended on one’s abilities. Even if he died, there was nothing to complain about—only his own insufficient strength to blame.

As the lizard was about to catch up with Nie Yan, Nie Yan was also about to make direct contact with Guang’an Yongzui.

Guang’an Yongzui swung his greatsword, completely blocking Nie Yan’s path. It seemed as if the lizard and Guang’an Yongzui would soon launch a pincer attack from both front and back.

Nie Yan understood Guang’an Yongzui’s strong desire to kill him. With enemies ahead and pursuers behind, in such a narrow encounter, any slight mistake would result in the lizard pouncing and Guang’an Yongzui delivering a finishing blow.

As the moment of contact approached, Guang’an Yongzui’s sharp sword light came toward Nie Yan. Suddenly, Nie Yan made a sharp turn, leaped into the air, and soared over a nearby bush.

Guang’an Yongzui’s sword grazed Nie Yan, splattering blood. With two loud sounds, a Holy Judgment and a Lightning Bolt struck Nie Yan.

-65, -89, -72…

Three damage numbers floated above Nie Yan’s head. His health was instantly reduced by more than half, leaving only 11% remaining.

“What an incredible jump!”

Seeing Nie Yan leap over the bush, Guang’an Yongzui’s heart sank.

Jumping ability was related to a player’s strength, jump, and encumbrance attributes. The maximum jump height was approximately five yards. Higher strength and jump attributes meant better jumping ability, while excessive encumbrance reduced jumping ability.

Nie Yan was lightly encumbered, and the Courage Chapter added 15 points to his jump attribute, making his jumping ability exceptionally impressive for his current stage.

Guang’an Yongzui had originally been confident in intercepting Nie Yan, combining with the lizard’s powerful attacks to kill him within five seconds. However, Nie Yan suddenly leapt like a flying man, soaring over the nearby bush.

The lizard chased to this point but was blocked by the bush, unable to continue pursuing Nie Yan. Right in front was Guang’an Yongzui, who had failed to intercept Nie Yan, so it lunged toward him instead.

Betrayed! Seeing the lizard charging toward him, Guang’an Yongzui had nowhere to retreat. He raised his greatsword and charged toward the lizard.

“Everyone, watch out for that thief! Candy, quickly stop him!” Guang’an Yongzui said solemnly, hurriedly swinging his sword to meet the lizard. He feared Nie Yan might turn around and attack the spellcasters behind.

With Nie Yan’s skills, if he got close to those spellcasters, especially the weaker healer, it would be dangerous.

“Don’t worry, leave it to me.” Candy’s eyes flickered with an unusual gleam. This guy was strong indeed.

Nie Yan successfully redirected the lizard toward Guang’an Yongzui. Glancing back, he saw Guang’an Yongzui already entangled with the lizard, and he exhaled in relief, finally escaping the lizard.

Now, should he use the lizard to eliminate them or just leave? He would decide later.

Nie Yan entered stealth mode, blending into the background, disappearing from everyone’s sight.

The spellcasters saw Nie Yan vanish, unable to detect his position. They moved closer to each other. The surroundings were empty, yet they still felt immense pressure.

Candy also entered stealth mode, searching for Nie Yan’s position. However, he dared not stray too far from the four cloth-armored spellcasters, as stealthed thieves posed a significant threat to cloth armor.

Only the sounds of the lizard fighting Guang’an Yongzui remained on the battlefield. Guang’an Yongzui had high defense and could temporarily withstand the lizard’s attacks, while the three mages began casting spells on the lizard.

Nie Yan glanced at his health, which was nearly depleted. Hiding behind a bush, he applied a bandage to himself.

+20, +20, +20…

His health quickly recovered halfway. Nie Yan’s tense mood finally relaxed slightly.

Seeing Guang’an Yongzui firmly resisting the lizard, with orderly damage output and healing, Nie Yan couldn’t help but think: this team’s strength was quite impressive. He didn’t recognize these people, but considering that many experts in his previous life kept their identities and names private, it was normal not to recognize them.
