Chapter 639: Dancer of Shadows

Since the formation of Xu Yan’s team, its size had expanded to twenty members. The majority were classmates from the Command Department, while the remaining members were recruited from the Bull Man Tribe. They had ventured into several dungeons successfully, rapidly enhancing their team’s equipment. Influenced by Xu Yan, several capable command students also joined the Bull Man Tribe.

Xu Yan, Fei Zhe, and Xia Tianyu’s prestige within the Command Department skyrocketed, while Zhao Shiyu, Fu Guangtao, Bai Jun, and others found themselves increasingly isolated. Naturally, Zhao Shiyu and his group were very resentful, and the friction between the two sides grew increasingly severe.

“Shall we go to the Skeleton Mine in the Nether Swamp?” Chu Chenghao suggested, looking at Xu Yan. In the past, they wouldn’t have dared to even think about it—the Skeleton Mine was one of the more advanced 90-level dungeons. But now, they were nearly ready.

Their team’s equipment had undergone a tremendous transformation recently.

“We’ll go to the Skeleton Mine tomorrow!” Xu Yan decided after a moment’s thought.

As usual, they left from Carol City with their team heading northward. Many players were leveling up by killing monsters along the way. When they passed through a jungle, more and more players gathered around them—about a hundred in total.

Xu Yan immediately sensed something was wrong.

“Everyone, quickly retreat!”

“It’s Fu Guangtao’s group!”

Xu Yan and others saw Zhao Shiyu, Fu Guangtao, and Bai Jun leading over a hundred players surrounding them.

“Damn it, today you won’t escape! We finally caught you. We’ll destroy you and relieve our hatred. Especially you three—Xu Yan, Xia Tianyu, and Fei Zhe—don’t think you can rely on someone rich in the game and get away with it,” Fu Guangtao sneered. They had been watching Xu Yan’s group for so long and finally found an opportunity.

Zhao Shiyu crossed his arms, looking down on them: “Why bother talking? Let’s just eliminate them quickly; we still need to form a team to clear a dungeon.”

“The gear on those three is really good. Let’s take some and divide it among ourselves.”

Xu Yan, Xia Tianyu, and Fei Zhe exchanged glances. The situation was unfavorable for them—Fu Guangtao’s group had too many members. Even if they attacked with sheer numbers, they would overwhelm them.

“All team members, follow me and break through!” Xu Yan commanded in the team chat, his voice low and firm. Being a team leader was a test of one’s abilities. After leading the team for so long, Xu Yan had gained a more astute and capable demeanor.

Xu Yan charged forward, breaking through the encirclement.

Xia Tianyu and Fei Zhe, instinctively in sync, began providing covering fire for Xu Yan.

Boom! Boom! Two of Fu Guangtao’s men were blown away by concentrated magical attacks.

“Block them!” Fu Guangtao hadn’t expected Xu Yan’s group to attack first and shouted furiously.

Fu Guangtao’s men immediately surrounded Xu Yan’s group, and a fierce battle erupted. Xu Yan’s group was heavily outnumbered. They managed to eliminate three opponents but were soon overwhelmed and lost five members. They broke free from Fu Guangtao’s encirclement and retreated southward.

“Don’t let them escape!” Zhao Shiyu’s voice was sharp and distorted.

Nie Yan rode atop the Dark Winged Dragon, soaring through the sky. Looking down, he saw a battle unfolding at the edge of the jungle in the distance—over a hundred players engaged in combat, magical spells flying, explosions bursting with dazzling lights, creating a chaotic scene.

That must be the place. Nie Yan dove downward.

Nie Yan’s descent was rapid, and he soon approached the ground, landing with a heavy thud.

Xu Yan, Xia Tianyu, and Fei Zhe were locked in a desperate battle, watching helplessly as one teammate after another was eliminated. Their team of twenty was reduced to just seven members. Although they inflicted heavy casualties on Fu Guangtao and Zhao Shiyu’s group, eliminating seventeen opponents, their enemies were too numerous, seemingly endless. They were completely surrounded.

“Don’t let those three escape. We must strip their gear!” Fu Guangtao shouted fiercely.

Nearly a hundred players surrounded Xu Yan’s group, leaving them no chance of escape.

As more enemies gathered, the pressure on them increased, and their health dwindled.

“Fei Zhe, Tianyu, looks like we’re done for,” Xu Yan said bitterly.

“One for one!” Xia Tianyu replied. Activating his Calm Spirit effect, he launched three consecutive Fireballs, sending an enemy warrior flying. His gear was still formidable against ordinary players, delivering devastating magical damage.

“I have a Random Teleport Scroll. One of you take it,” Chu Chenghao said, pulling out a scroll from his backpack.

“You use it. At least one of us can escape,” Xu Yan replied. At this moment, a Random Teleport Scroll was extremely valuable.

“My gear is junk anyway. Even if I lose it, it’s not a big deal. One of you take it, quickly!” Chu Chenghao insisted seriously.

Xu Yan, Fei Zhe, and Xia Tianyu looked at Chu Chenghao. Xu Yan, standing beside him, punched his shoulder and said solemnly, “Brother!”

No one accepted the Random Teleport Scroll from Chu Chenghao.

They didn’t have time to talk anymore. Xu Yan charged forward, knocking a warrior aside. Fei Zhe followed up with two arrows, piercing the warrior’s chest. Even surrounded, their attacks remained fierce.

As the warrior’s corpse flew past him, Fu Guangtao couldn’t help but curse, “Damn it, still struggling. Warriors, charge!”

As Fu Guangtao finished speaking, over a dozen warriors charged at Xu Yan’s group.

This time, even if Xu Yan and his group had three heads and six arms, they couldn’t escape. A sense of triumph flashed through Fu Guangtao’s mind.

Just as Fu Guangtao believed victory was certain, a blur flashed past, and three warriors fell to the ground, all instantly killed.

What’s going on! Fu Guangtao was shocked. Before he could even see what happened, system messages kept popping up.

System: Your teammate Fuhua has died.

System: Your teammate Kushu has died.

Nie Yan was enjoying himself, cutting through the crowd like a phantom. To him, these players were basically one-hit kills. With their meager health, how could they withstand Nie Yan’s terrifying attack power? Wherever he went, bodies lay strewn across the battlefield.

As the shadow flashed past them, a warrior swung his sword.

Nie Yan moved a step faster, leaping into the air and delivering a side kick to the warrior’s neck. The warrior was kicked away and instantly killed.

Nie Yan pushed off the ground with his right hand, skillfully leapt several meters away, arriving in front of a paladin and delivering a backstab.

The paladin sensed Nie Yan’s approach and tried to retreat in panic, but before he could take a step, Nie Yan’s Zeenard Sword slashed into his back. With a thud, the paladin collapsed forward onto the ground.

Nie Yan struck one after another, quickly eliminating over twenty enemies. The enemies surrounding Xu Yan’s group were suddenly cleared.

Xu Yan and his companions were stunned. They had been in a certain death situation, but an unexpected dramatic change occurred. Looking ahead, they saw a shadow flash by. They couldn’t even see who the savior was, yet one player after another fell to the ground.

They felt a chill run through them. Who was that person? He was terrifying. Fortunately, he was on their side.

“What the hell, who is that guy! Blast him with magic!” Fu Guangtao screamed hysterically, watching his teammates fall one by one without even knowing who his opponent was. This feeling was terrifying.

Streams of magic shot toward the figure.

The figure suddenly vanished, and all the spells missed.

Moments later, more screams were heard, and more players fell.

No one could stop Nie Yan from killing!

In no time, over a hundred players were reduced to just twenty, with seven or eight being from the Command Department.

“Damn it, who are you? At least let us know who killed us!” Fu Guangtao shouted angrily, looking around. The figure was nowhere to be seen. Several priests nearby cast Light spells into the air, illuminating a thirty-yard radius around them, but they couldn’t find any trace of Nie Yan.

The atmosphere was suffocating. They knew Nie Yan, hidden in the shadows, hadn’t left. Nie Yan decided their fates. If he decided to take their lives, none of them would survive.

Their fate was no longer in their own hands.

“Who are you? You killed so many of us and won’t even leave your name?” Zhao Shiyu had never encountered such a situation before. Facing the intense bloodlust and killing intent in the air, she was terrified and could only rely on Fu Guangtao to confront him. Ultimately, she was just a woman with beauty but little ability.

As for Bai Jun, he remained relatively calm. Activating his Divine Eye, he scanned the surroundings, but no matter how hard he searched, he couldn’t find any trace of Nie Yan.

Divine Eye ineffective?

What he didn’t know was that after Nie Yan’s promotion to Shadow Dancer, his stealth capabilities had significantly improved. These basic vision skills were completely useless against Nie Yan.

The area was eerily silent, devoid of any sound. Suddenly, two more screams pierced the air. A flash of light passed by, and two players beside Fu Guangtao and Bai Jun were instantly killed.

Nie Yan, hidden in the darkness, was like a death god pronouncing judgment. When Nie Yan decided to kill someone, there was no chance of survival.

At an extreme speed, these players were like lambs awaiting slaughter. This overwhelming sense of control was exhilarating. Nie Yan once again deeply appreciated and was awed by the power of the Shadow Dancer class. Every move he made, even if slow, appeared lightning-fast to ordinary players. When hunting enemies in stealth, if their speed couldn’t keep up, they were doomed. A dancer of shadows, known as a Shadow Dancer.

“You’ve always wanted to know my level. Today, I’ll let you die knowing who killed you.” As Nie Yan’s voice echoed, his figure slowly emerged from the shadows.
