Chapter 613: Frostball

Besides the competitions between several organizations, there were also contests among different classes. The Command Department came in second place, narrowly losing to the Mecha Combat Department, while each class had its own ranking determined.

Nie Yan found little interest in these competitions.

“It was my mistake just now. Actually, we could have beaten the Mecha Combat Department,” Fu Guangtao said with a hint of arrogance, glancing sideways at a few nearby classmates. His implication was clear—they weren’t weaker than the Mecha Combat Department; they had simply made a small mistake.

“The Mecha Combat Department is only slightly stronger than us. If we level up a bit more and get better equipment, we can surpass them. It’s a pity that Xia Tianyu didn’t come. With just one more person equipped better, we would definitely beat them,” Bai Jun added.

“Forget about Xia Tianyu. The world won’t stop spinning without him. We’ll work hard next time and definitely defeat the Mecha Combat Department,” Zhao Shiyu, always confident, naturally assumed a leadership role.

Fu Guangtao continued to boast about the weaknesses of several top players in the Mecha Combat Department.

Some people in the group disliked Zhao Shiyu, Fu Guangtao, and Bai Jun, but they kept their opinions to themselves.

To Nie Yan, Fu Guangtao’s theories were laughable—vague and entirely impractical.

Even if dozens like Fu Guangtao came, Nie Yan would still knock them all down without hesitation.

“Pfft, self-deception. Don’t you realize that even the top players from the Mecha Combat Department didn’t actually participate? With your group, you think you can beat them? Don’t overestimate yourselves,” Xia Tianyu, sitting in a distant corner, finally couldn’t hold back and sneered.

Hearing Xia Tianyu’s words, Fu Guangtao immediately felt humiliated and snapped, “Xia Tianyu, say that again!”

“If you want to hear it again, it’s easy. Just replay the video from earlier. Not only once, but even a thousand or ten thousand times if you want,” Xia Tianyu shot back sharply.

Upon hearing Xia’s words, Xie Yao lightly chuckled and turned to Nie Yan beside her, saying, “Your classmate is quite amusing.”

Nie Yan shrugged. He hadn’t expected Xia Tianyu to have such a sense of humor.

“Damn it!” Fu Guangtao cursed and tried to rush toward Xia Tianyu, but was held back by Bai Jun and others.

“Let it go. It’s a minor issue. We’re all classmates anyway,” Bai Jun said.

Eventually, with the persuasion of the classmates, the incident was resolved, though the Command Department students dispersed in a rather sour mood.

The gathering at the First Military Academy came to an end, with Blue Wind Chime emerging as the biggest winner. Many students from the First Military Academy eagerly sought connections with members of groups like Indestructible Rogue, hoping they could be introduced to Bull Player Tribe and invited to take their trials. Meanwhile, Divine Sword also managed to recruit quite a few members from the academy.

Watching Fang Rujie and Qin Han leave with a large group of new guild members, Nie Yan remained alert and instructed Guo Huai to keep a close eye on Divine Sword.

Nie Yan and Xie Yao left the arena together. Xie Yao continued her quest to collect a complete set of gear and revive the Phoenix.

As for Nie Yan, Guo Huai had already arranged for some cold resistance items and skill books to be gathered and stored in Nie Yan’s personal warehouse.

After parting ways with Xie Yao, Nie Yan headed toward his personal warehouse.

Opening it, he found two passive skill books for cold resistance and an item called Frost Orb—a snow-white, fist-sized spherical object, crystalline and translucent.

Nie Yan examined the Frost Orb’s attributes.

Frost Orb: Special Item.

Item Properties: Cold Resistance +50, Ice Magic Enhancement 20%. Bonus Skill: Frost Resistance. Frost Resistance: When used, this skill activates the power of the Frost Orb, granting immunity to ice damage and enabling survival even in extremely cold environments. Duration: 30 seconds. Cooldown: 20 minutes.

Restriction: Cannot be used by dark beings.

Looking at the Frost Orb’s attributes, Nie Yan immediately thought of the Molten Core in his backpack. He took it out and checked its description.

Molten Core: Special Item.

Item Properties: Fire Resistance +50, Fire Magic Enhancement 20%. Bonus Skill: Molten Core. Molten Core: When used, this skill grants the power of the Molten Core, granting immunity to fire damage and allowing travel even across scorching lava. Duration: 30 seconds. Cooldown: 20 minutes.

Restriction: Cannot be used by dark beings.

The Molten Core and Frost Orb were nearly identical in size, both special items. The Molten Core was bright red, radiating intense heat like a blazing flame, while the Frost Orb was snow-white, glowing with a faint icy sheen. Holding it in hand, a chill immediately seeped into Nie Yan’s body.

One red, one white—these two items complemented each other beautifully.

The Molten Core was extremely rare. Nie Yan had only learned of its existence in the Molten Forest by sheer coincidence in his previous life, and he hadn’t known about items like the Frost Orb until now.

This made him wonder—besides the Molten Core and Frost Orb, were there other similar items?

He decided to ask Guo Huai and the others to search for more in the future. Collecting them all might trigger some unique effects.

After learning both skills, Nie Yan checked his cold resistance, which had risen to 260—enough to meet his requirements. Additionally, he had also picked up several Master-level Cold Resistance Potions from the Starlight Pharmacy.

Once fully prepared, Nie Yan was finally ready to set off. After obtaining the Sogot Feather and forging the legendary Sogot Shadow, he would be able to advance to the Saint Shadow Dancer class.

Nie Yan headed outside the city, summoned the Darkwinged Dragon, and rode it toward his destination.

The Darkwinged Dragon flew rapidly toward the far north.

Its altitude quickly increased, the wind howling past his ears. Mountains and rivers blurred beneath him as Nie Yan once again experienced the Darkwinged Dragon’s incredible speed.

After flying for about fifty minutes—how far, he couldn’t tell—the landscape below had turned into a vast icy expanse. Cold air currents swept by, and frost quickly formed across Nie Yan’s skin.

His body was nearly frozen stiff. The Darkwinged Dragon’s speed dropped dramatically in the freezing cold, its body stiffening.

Nie Yan quickly ordered the dragon to descend. Flying at high speeds in such extreme cold was extremely dangerous.

The dragon began circling in place, gradually descending in altitude. Looking into the distance, Nie Yan saw an endless expanse of snow-covered plains stretching to the horizon. Occasionally, isolated mountains jutted out from the snowy landscape, their peaks buried beneath thick layers of snow.

Finally, the Darkwinged Dragon landed. Nie Yan leaped from its back and stepped onto the frozen ground.
