Chapter 52: The Flute of Ianpart

Two dark elves sprinted toward the mouth of the canyon like rabbits. They were nimble, but their health was only 100, meaning a single round of magic could kill them.

“You think you can run? No way!” Nie Yan shot forward like an arrow in pursuit.

The others followed closely behind Nie Yan.

At this moment, Yulan and the others must have already blocked the exit of the canyon.

Sure enough, the two dark elves hadn’t run far before they stopped, as Yulan and her team surrounded them, completely sealing off the exit.

They were now cornered with no escape!

The two dark elves exchanged glances and then dashed toward the nearby cliff. In a moment, they had climbed up to a height of more than three yards. Nie Yan chased behind and suddenly leaped high, grabbing one dark elf’s foot with his hand. The ring on his left hand shot out a strand of spider silk, which stuck onto the other dark elf. With a forceful yank, Nie Yan flung both dark elves down. With a loud thud, they crashed to the ground, raising a cloud of dust.

Nie Yan’s high agility and jump attributes gave him astonishing speed and athletic ability, clearly surpassing the two dark elves.

The group surrounded the two dark elves, raising their staffs and preparing to use magic to finish them off.

“Shueda shueda,” the two dark elves pleaded.

“Wait, don’t kill them yet!” Nie Yan suddenly said. In his previous life, during the mission in the Treant Grove, defeating these two dark elves would result in the drop of the Flute of Enpat. Obtaining the Flute of Enpat would allow the mission to continue. However, in this lifetime, capturing the two dark elves alive was a new development.

In the past, players who attempted the Treant Grove mission could only achieve a maximum completion rate of 75%. The remaining 25% of the clues were unknown. Perhaps some of these clues could be obtained from the two dark elves.

In his previous life, Nie Yan’s stats at level four were incomparable to his current ones. At lower levels, ordinary players couldn’t hope to wear a full set of bronze equipment, let alone possess legendary items like the Scroll of Courage. Due to their low agility and jump attributes, ordinary players had no choice but to kill dark elves with magic, as catching them was nearly impossible.

The two dark elves curled up, looking at Nie Yan with pleading eyes.

“Shueda shueda!” The two dark elves uttered ancient and difficult words. This was Elvish, roughly meaning “please spare us.”

“Do any of you understand Elvish?” Nie Yan turned to his team.

The team members looked at each other and shook their heads. They only knew one language—Common.

Nie Yan was silent for a moment. Without understanding Elvish, there was no way to communicate with the two dark elves.

He checked his language list, which included four languages: Common, Draconic, Old Common, and Koshad Giant. Thinking for a moment, he considered that dark elves, as an ancient race with long lifespans, might know other languages.

“Sghuwoegl shg!” In Draconic: “Lowly, weak dark elves, why have you come here?”

Nie Yan uttered a series of deep syllables, startling the group. However, they soon realized it was a language.

After hearing Nie Yan’s words, the two dark elves looked at him in terror and trembled. One of them, slightly braver, looked at Nie Yan with hesitation. Finally gathering his courage, he crawled forward, kissed Nie Yan’s foot, and then retreated, emitting a timid, quivering sound.

“Shugsighug te eojg.” In Draconic: “By the Dragon God, the dark elf Vassalain prays humbly. My lord, are you a dragon in human disguise?”

During the distant dark ages, dark elves were once slaves of the dragons. Unlike races such as giants, humans, and white elves, who rebelled and cherished freedom, dark elves still maintained devout worship of dragons in their tribal traditions. These creatures surviving in dark corners only truly valued loyalty.

Nie Yan’s heart stirred. Few humans understood Draconic, and this dark elf likely mistook him for a dragon. He decided to play along.

“Shugueg ohhsg shu!” In Draconic: “Yes, by the Dragon God, dark elf Vassalain. Why are you here?”

“Shugogweuggsh.” In Draconic: “Honored lord, the dark elf Zhur tribe suffered a devastating defeat at Hilton Fortress. We fled through the plains and arrived here amidst the chaos.”

“Shugohjslde!” In Draconic: “Dark elf Vassalain, so you are deserters from Hilton Fortress.”

“Shugohweughh!” In Draconic: “Honored lord, we are not deserters. Dark elf Vassalain is a brave warrior! We have provided much intelligence to the tribe. The Zhur tribe will launch a counterattack on Hilton Fortress three nights from now. At that time, dark elf Vassalain will return to the battlefield.”

Dark elf Vassalain spoke confidently.

System: You have received a side quest for this instance. Report the two dark elves’ heads to General Kawarote and learn the Zhur tribe’s counterattack time.

It was a side quest. Remaining calm, Nie Yan continued to extract information from the dark elf. Mistaking Nie Yan for a dragon, Vassalain answered every question truthfully without any attempt to hide anything.

Nie Yan and the dark elf continued exchanging strange syllables, seemingly engaged in conversation. The dark elf appeared extremely fearful of Nie Yan, leaving the others astonished. How could Nie Yan have learned another race’s language?

“Shugoshugeghhsuhh!” In Draconic: “Dark elf Vassalain, the treant herder Enpat is a friend of the dragons. You stole his flute, and I have decided to punish you.”

Dark elf Vassalain knelt on the ground, continuously bowing and handing over the flute.

The flute was pitch black, covered in cracked patterns, and looked very ancient.

Nie Yan checked the flute’s attributes.

Flute of Enpat (Quest Item): Required Level 0.

Item Description: A flute used by the treant herder that causes treants to tremble in fear.

Item Attributes: Will +20, Strength +20, Reflex +20, Health +300, Treant-type creature attributes reduced by 50%.

Usage Restriction: Can only be used within the Treant Grove instance.

This was definitely the flute. Nie Yan lowly said in the team chat, “Kill them!”

The mages raised their staffs and began chanting spells. The two dark elves still knelt there, not resisting, silently accepting their deaths.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Magical blasts exploded on the two dark elves. Their health dropped to zero, and they collapsed to the ground.

System: You have obtained dark elf heads. Quantity: 2.

“Done. The dark elves also dropped a warrior’s boots. Someone take it. Let’s go kill the treant king,” Nie Yan said. This was the most perfect run through the Treant Grove instance in history, and capturing the two dark elves was an unexpected bonus.

“Nie Yan, what did you say to those two dark elves? Why did they seem so afraid of you? And why didn’t they fight back when we attacked them?” Yaoyao approached Nie Yan and asked.

Everyone looked at Nie Yan with curiosity. Even Yulan instinctively focused her attention on him.
