Chapter 346: The Graveyard Town

System: You have discovered the town of Valdin Cemetery.

The town of Valdin Cemetery is surrounded by rows of upright tombstones, with scattered bones everywhere. Most of the tombstones are already broken and worn, and the inscriptions on them have become illegible. The town is enclosed by wooden fences and contains only about a dozen buildings. The most prominent structure is a lighthouse. However, the stones used to build the lighthouse have partially collapsed, making the tower appear as if it could collapse at any moment.

The cemetery surrounding Valdin serves as the town’s most effective defense line during attacks. Piles of corpses lie everywhere. Once battle begins, NPCs can summon a large number of skeletons, making city walls unnecessary for Valdin.

Nie Yan wore a black robe, concealing his face within the hood. He activated a skill from his Deceiver’s Necklace, switching to the Evil Lawful alignment. To avoid being recognized, he had specifically consumed a potion of disguise created by Birdwithoutegg, slightly altering his appearance.

The Deceiver’s Necklace allows Nie Yan to temporarily become Evil Lawful for three hours. Unless someone uses a special skill on him, he cannot be identified.

Within villages and cities, which player would cast a skill like Vision on another player without reason?

Nie Yan could be considered audacious, as few dared to do something so risky.

Of course, Nie Yan wasn’t reckless. He placed his hand inside the pocket of his black robe, gripping a scroll of random teleportation. If he were recognized by guards or NPCs, he could immediately use the scroll to escape.

An necromancer and a curse speaker passed by Nie Yan, glanced at him, and quickly walked away.

What they didn’t know was that Nie Yan felt a bit tense when they looked at him. He couldn’t be certain whether the skill from the Deceiver’s Necklace was effective. Seeing that the two Evil Lawful players didn’t recognize him and walked away directly, he relaxed slightly.

Nie Yan walked toward the gate of the cemetery town. The town entrance was cluttered with various items, appearing somewhat messy.

Two guards wearing tattered metal armor stood on either side of the town entrance. Beneath their tattered iron helmets were skeletal faces. They held long, rusty polearms, inspecting the Evil Lawful players passing through.

Skeleton Guards: ???-level elite.

Nie Yan couldn’t determine the level of these skeleton guards. He didn’t know whether they could see through his disguise. He forced himself to walk forward.

The skeleton guards seemed to sense something and walked toward Nie Yan. The green flames in their eye sockets flickered as they stared at Nie Yan’s face for a long time.

If the skeleton guards detected anything suspicious, they could kill Nie Yan with a single strike. Thus, Nie Yan’s nerves were stretched to the limit. His hand tightly gripped the scroll of random teleportation. If the skeleton guards attacked, he would immediately crush the scroll. If he hesitated even a moment, he would surely die.

The heads of the skeleton guards slowly turned with a creaking sound. After inspecting for a while, they ignored Nie Yan and continued checking the next Evil Lawful player.

Nie Yan slightly relaxed his grip on the scroll of random teleportation and continued walking into Valdin with the crowd.

Valdin was a dilapidated town. The few buildings looked shaky, ancient and worn, as if they had existed for countless years.

However, the wide stone road was bustling with people. Many players came to Valdin daily, as there were many leveling spots nearby: 40th level, 45th level, and 50th level. The influx of players had boosted local commerce. On both sides of the stone road, many players had set up stalls, selling various equipment and materials, with bargaining sounds filling the air.

Its level of activity rivaled any town in Carol City.

Nie Yan looked toward the center of Valdin, where an ancient black magic teleportation array, constructed from stone blocks, could transport players to cities.

He thought for a moment. He wasn’t in a hurry to go to the Cemetery of the Dead. The dangers there were much higher than in Valdin. After all, it was the capital city of the Undead Empire. The NPCs there were much higher level and far more powerful than those in the cemetery town. Nie Yan’s chances of being recognized would greatly increase. Therefore, he decided to stay here for a few days first. When the time came to leave, he would visit the Cemetery of the Dead.

Nie Yan thought for a moment, found a corner, and set up a stall to sell some of the equipment he had obtained.

There were a total of twenty-six items, each of decent quality and relatively valuable, worth at least 100 gold each. He decided to sell them first to make some money. Otherwise, taking them to the surface might only fetch a few gold coins.

As for some more sensitive equipment, such as the Black Serpent King Shield, he didn’t put it up for sale. The Black Serpent King Shield was too conspicuous and could easily lead to his identification.

Nie Yan sat leisurely, watching the bustling street, and struck up a conversation with a nearby stall owner. The stall owner was level 40, an necromancer, with rather unremarkable gear. He appeared to be in his mid to late twenties and looked quite honest and straightforward.

“Brother, I have a question,” Nie Yan said.

“Big brother, go ahead,” the necromancer replied nervously. He had seen the equipment displayed at Nie Yan’s stall, his eyes widening at the sight of the twenty-six items. He couldn’t afford even one of them. Naturally, he felt flattered that Nie Yan had approached him first.

Since Nie Yan was wearing a black robe and had hidden his name and level, the necromancer could only guess wildly, suspecting that Nie Yan might be a top-tier expert.

“What’s your name?” Nie Yan asked. The necromancer before him seemed decent enough.

“I’m called Lifeisas戏,” the necromancer replied.

“Brother Lifeisas戏, what’s the current price for equipment with enhanced Dark Vision?”

“Dark Vision? Equipment with +1 Dark Vision usually goes for around five silver coins…”

“Stop, stop, stop. Tell me about equipment with +7 and above,” Nie Yan interrupted.

Life is a Game gave Nie Yan a meaningful look. Asking directly about +7 gear was a sign of affluence. He said, “I don’t pay much attention to +7 Dark Vision equipment, but I do know some details. It seems +7 gear starts at least at 30 gold coins, +10 and above would exceed 100 gold coins, and +15 might be around 300 gold coins.”

+7 Dark Vision equipment would sell for at least 500 to 600 gold coins on the surface, +10 would likely exceed 1000, and +15 could fetch several thousand gold coins.

That was the price difference!

Nie Yan seemed to see golden coins shining before him. Equipment with increased Dark Vision was extremely rare on the surface but highly sought after. Players venturing into caves without such gear wouldn’t last long. Thieves could hide in the shadows, but spellcasters without Dark Vision would die without even knowing how. Therefore, equipment with increased Dark Vision was in high demand, especially those with +7 or higher, which were practically priceless.

“Big brother, the equipment at your stall is all so valuable. I don’t see anything below 100 gold coins,” Lifeisas戏 exclaimed in amazement. What a rich man! Just this stall alone could sell for thousands of gold coins.

“Do you like any of it? I’ll give it to you,” Nie Yan said with a generous laugh. Lifeisas戏 didn’t notice, but Nie Yan was now wearing a sly smile. Suddenly, Nie Yan had an epiphany: since the Cemetery of the Dead was so perilous, why should he take the risk himself? He could simply have someone else purchase the equipment for him. And wasn’t there someone right here who could do just that?

When Nie Yan switched to Evil Lawful alignment, he could trade with Evil Lawful players.

This involved some unique game mechanics. When Nie Yan was disguised as Evil Lawful, Evil Lawful players who traded with him unknowingly wouldn’t be held accountable. If Nie Yan were exposed, Evil Lawful guards would investigate everyone who had interacted with him, identifying the traitors. Unknowing players wouldn’t be punished.

“No, no, no,” Lifeisas quickly declined.

Nie Yan smiled slightly, saying nothing. He began to plan his next steps.

Soon, a crowd gathered around Nie Yan’s stall. The reason was simple: the items for sale were exceptional, rarely seen by ordinary players.

A tall Wraith Warrior pushed through the crowd, crouched in front of Nie Yan’s stall, pointed at a piece of armor, and asked, “Brother, how much for this armor?”

The armor provided bonuses to strength, stamina, and one defense level, making it quite valuable.

“You name the price,” Nie Yan replied casually. To him, selling the equipment was just a matter of getting as much as possible as quickly as possible.

“How about 300 gold coins?” the spectral warrior proposed.

Nie Yan glanced at the armor’s attributes, estimating its value to be about right. He didn’t feel like haggling and was about to agree.

“You’re offering way too low. The +1 defense level alone is worth at least 200 gold coins. This armor should sell for at least 500 gold coins,” Lifeisas interrupted passionately.

The spectral warrior nearly leapt up to strike Life is a Game. Clearly, Nie Yan was wealthy and wouldn’t bat an eye at a few hundred gold coins. Just as he was about to agree, an unexpected obstacle emerged.

The spectral warrior glared fiercely at Lifeisas戏, who met the gaze unflinchingly.

Nie Yan glanced indifferently at the Wraith Warrior and said, “He’s my friend.” Nie Yan found Lifeisasgame quite amusing.

The anger of the undead warrior instantly dissipated. Nie Yan’s identity was a mystery, and provoking him would be akin to suicide.

“Expert, we don’t have that much money. My six teammates and I can’t even pool that much together. Could you give us a discount?” the Wraith Warrior said awkwardly.
