The Gold Earthworm and Nieyan swiftly completed their final tasks. Soon, a large number of corpses lay on the ground, rapidly evaporating and purifying into nothingness.
Nieyan glanced at the mission details for the Holy Spirit Heart. He had already purified 56 corpses.
As long as he continued like this, he would be able to unlock the seal on the Zenanard Sword. This Zenanard Sword was undoubtedly the best weapon he had ever seen in both of his lifetimes. It surpassed any divine equipment showcased online. If fully unlocked, its attributes would be astonishing.
The Dictator Abak Set and the unsealed Zenanard Sword would become Nieyan’s ultimate equipment pursuit!
Nieyan had the Gold Earthworm tanking upfront while he continuously cast Necrotic Rite from behind, summoning one Bloodthirsty Boar after another. Eventually, there were two regular boars, two boar leaders, and one elite boar. This formation could be considered massive. Although these boars weren’t particularly strong in attack, they were tough and durable, making them excellent tanks.
Nieyan continuously lured monsters in groups, which were then eliminated by his summoned creatures. If one or two boars fell in battle, he simply summoned replacements.
With Fei’nas’ Life Pearl granting a +100% bonus to dark magic effects, the Necrotic Rite received significant enhancement. Nieyan’s success rate for casting Necrotic Rite was no longer as low as before.
With five giant Bloodthirsty Boars and the formidable Gold Earthworm, Nieyan embarked on a path of slaughter, leaving a trail of carnage and corpses.
A “ding” sound echoed, and a system notification appeared. Nieyan checked his level and found he had already reached level 37.
He glanced at the level rankings for Karol City. At the top were Tang Yao and Shixue Kuangdao, with Tang Yao at level 53 and Shixue Kuangdao at level 52. Their experience was nearly identical, with very little separating them. Many players from the Mage Alliance and Sacred Guardians had also climbed the rankings.
Karol City was too chaotic, constantly embroiled in warfare. The players from the Bull Tribe had insufficient time to level up, which allowed others to catch up. However, the Bull Tribe still held an unshakable position on the rankings. Six of the top ten and twenty-seven of the top fifty belonged to the Bull Tribe.
With players reaching such high levels, Nieyan’s level seemed relatively modest.
He needed to level up quickly, find nearby villages or towns, gather information, and determine his location within the dungeon and identify the nearest underground city.
As Nieyan was grinding monsters, he noticed distant lights at the edge of the plains. These were flashes of magical explosions, indicating the presence of players from the opposing faction!
He decided to investigate first; otherwise, if they approached unnoticed, it would become problematic. Nieyan considered briefly before entering stealth mode and moving toward the source of the light, leaving the Gold Earthworm and five Bloodthirsty Boars to continue grinding monsters.
Nieyan’s figure gradually faded into the darkness, like an elf hiding within shadows.
Approaching within approximately ten yards of the group, Nieyan observed them from his hiding spot. Several figures came into view. Their appearance was completely different from surface dwellers. Their skin was pale, devoid of any color, giving off a lifeless aura. Golden hair cascaded down, and their bodies seemed to exist in a state of nothingness, mere faint shadows.
Their appearance unmistakably identified them as Wang Hun—Spirits of the Dead.
“It seems I’ve wandered into the territory of the Undead Empire,” Nieyan thought. The Undead Empire had a relatively simple class system, including Necromancers, Spirit Warriors, Undead Warriors, Cursecasters, Undead Mages, and Spirit Rogues.
Among these seven classes, Undead Mages were the main class of the Undead Empire. They could summon various undead creatures and monsters and deal damage like a regular mage. A powerful Undead Mage possessed astonishing combat capabilities.
Among the other classes, Necromancers specialized in healing black magic, capable of healing Spirit-class players, similar to human Priests. Cursecasters were known as the most terrifying class, excelling in curses and magical attacks.
As for the other classes, Spirit Warriors, Undead Warriors, and Spirit Rogues were largely similar to their human counterparts. Spirit Warriors resembled shielded warriors, focusing on defense, while Undead Warriors specialized in attack.
As for Spirit Rogues, they were renowned.
Among all Rogues, two races stood out the most: Undead Rogues and Elf Rogues. Undead Rogues specialized in control and possessed the Undead Will talent, making them partially immune to mind-affecting magic. Although the duration of this talent’s effect was brief, it was extremely useful in player-versus-player combat. Elf Rogues specialized in stealth. These two talents were highly advantageous for Rogues.
Therefore, in the eyes of players, Elf Rogues and Undead Rogues had the best talents and were most likely to produce powerful individuals, with humans slightly inferior. Humans possessed the Intelligence talent, excelling in detecting traps and using magical devices.
Talent does not determine strength. To become a true powerhouse, one must fully utilize their talent. Otherwise, even the best talent is useless.
Nieyan observed the six-player group ahead: one Necromancer, one Undead Mage, two Cursecasters, one Spirit Warrior, and one Undead Rogue. The Undead Mage had summoned a Skeleton Warrior. This Skeleton Warrior was of average human height, wearing tattered iron armor and a slightly rusted iron helmet, wielding a broken iron axe.
In total, there were seven units.
Nieyan checked their levels. They were all around level 45, which was considered quite strong among players.
This was Nieyan’s first encounter with players from the opposing faction.
He wondered about their skills. In his previous life, although Nieyan had also visited the dungeon, he had gone to the Demon-Tribe, not the Undead Empire.
The Demon-Tribe and the Undead Empire were two different nations in an alliance relationship, similar to Greenlan and Sathen.
The group was chatting about something, and Nieyan moved closer to catch some snippets. They were speaking in Vania Undead language, a major language in the Undead Empire with widespread usage.
Fortunately, Nieyan had also learned some Undead language; otherwise, surviving in the underground world would have been difficult.
Their conversation was extensive, and Nieyan only caught fragments.
“Thief Six, what’s your Dark Vision range now?” the Undead Mage asked, conjuring a ball of black fire in his hand. The fireball flew through the darkness and struck a Bloodthirsty Boar, exploding with a “boom.”
“Sixteen yards, still too short. It’s inconvenient for movement,” the one called Thief Six, the Rogue, replied.
“I should have spent thirty gold coins to buy that equipment with +12 Dark Vision,” the Undead Mage regretted. Often, once opportunities were missed, they could never be regained.
An equipment item with +12 Dark Vision for only thirty gold coins? Nieyan thought in amazement. On the surface, such an item would cost no less than two or three thousand gold coins!
All six of them, along with the Skeleton Warrior, were marked as black names.
Players from opposing factions displayed each other as black names, allowing unrestricted attacks. Killing opponents did not incur red name penalties but instead granted honor rewards for successful kills.
The more honor kills one achieved, the higher military rank they could obtain in the human world. Ranks, from lowest to highest, were: Sergeant Major, Decurion, Centurion, Chiliarch, Myriarch, Inspector General, and High Inspector General.
Players with ranks could enjoy certain benefits in cities, including discounted purchases of honor sets. Depending on their rank, players could purchase different honor sets. Reaching the rank of Inspector General even allowed purchasing sub-legendary sets of the corresponding level. Honor sets usually came with pure player-versus-player attributes. If one reached the rank of High Inspector General, even legendary sets of the corresponding level could be purchased at very low prices.
Besides honor sets, achieving the rank of High Inspector General also provided opportunities to run for a seat in the Greenlan Empire’s parliament. Becoming a parliament member allowed participation in political affairs, wielding immense power. If Nieyan became a parliament member, he could find at least dozens of ways to destroy guilds below level seven.
The higher the rank, the better. However, becoming a High Inspector General was no simple task. It wasn’t just about killing many opponents; one also needed to complete some SSS-ranked missions assigned by the parliament. In his previous life, there were a few Inspector Generals, and supposedly one High Inspector General, though no one knew who it was. People had only heard rumors but had never seen one. Ordinary Inspector Generals and High Inspector Generals were those who had killed countless enemies in opposing factions. These individuals were often hunted and besieged by enemies from the opposing side. Only those who could survive under extremely difficult conditions were true powerhouses!
Nieyan couldn’t help but wonder, as he planned to spend some time underground until he could unlock the Zenanard Sword, how high his rank might rise.
Trying to climb the ranks wouldn’t hurt either. Perhaps he could even become an Inspector General or a High Inspector General.
Nieyan fixed his gaze on the six players ahead. In wilderness encounters between players from opposing factions, they usually resorted to any means necessary to eliminate their opponents.
There was no personal enmity between players; their different factions inherently made them enemies. If these six players had discovered Nieyan first, they would certainly have targeted and killed him.
Thinking about this, Nieyan issued commands to the Gold Earthworm and the Bloodthirsty Boars, ordering them to converge from various directions.
“Thief Six, go and pull the aggro,” the Undead Mage in the black robe said.
“Okay,” the Undead Rogue in light gray leather armor entered stealth mode and disappeared from Nieyan’s sight.
Nieyan scanned his surroundings but still couldn’t determine the Rogue’s position. His Dark Perception was too low, and his vision range was too small. He could only clearly see a small area around him, roughly ten yards in diameter, while everything beyond was pitch black.
In such a dark environment, Rogues were a terrifying class. Unless one’s Dark Perception reached a certain level, one wouldn’t even realize a Rogue had closed in.
