At the foot of the mage tower was an open field, where the battle was chaotic. Players of various classes were scattered all over the place. The open area around was filled with mages, some even standing on the branches of trees outside the perimeter. One after another, magical lights shimmered from their hands, and beams of magic flew straight toward the foot of the mage tower.
A group of dozens of warriors surrounded the necromancer mage at the base of the tower. He was an old man, emaciated, with wild hair and beard, his entire body engulfed in white flames of the soul.
He still had about one-fifth of his health remaining, but even at that level, it had taken the group at least ten minutes to bring him down to this point.
“Undying flames of Sodom and Gomorrah, your follower calls you from distant Atlantis. Let the flames of destruction burn this land. Damned heretics, enjoy the embrace of death!” The necromancer cackled with sinister laughter.
Waving his staff, the necromancer summoned a torrent of blazing fire, cascading down like a waterfall. In an instant, it swallowed up more than twenty players on the open field. The flames roared, rising over three meters high, turning the area into a living hell. Damage numbers of over 200 floated above the players’ heads. After only three seconds, all of them were burned to death.
Chaos erupted around the battlefield. The flames refused to die down, continuing to burn for five more seconds before finally extinguishing, leaving behind only black ash.
Immediately, an empty space formed in front of the necromancer.
“Such powerful magic!” The thin dog, who was in charge of command, sucked in a breath of cold air and quickly adjusted the formation, ordering warriors from the rear to move up.
“Hurry up!”
“Move faster!”
More than ten warriors charged forward, rushing toward the necromancer.
The necromancer unleashed wave after wave of magic, while the priests at the back worked frantically. Beams of dazzling white light rained down from the sky as they healed. Each warrior was being healed by two or three priests. The warriors’ health bars constantly fluctuated up and down, creating a heart-stopping sight.
Magic missiles and fireballs from the mages rained into the center. Hundreds of spells flew from all directions, continuously exploding on the necromancer. The scene was spectacular.
Even with the strength of the Niuren Tribe, they wouldn’t dare to expend resources recklessly against a high-level boss. The Niuren Tribe didn’t have that many high-level players to spare, which was the difference in foundation between a rising guild like Niuren and a major guild like Triumph.
Nie Yan gradually moved behind a tree. The nearest player was less than two meters away. The player was an arcane mage, yet completely failed to notice Nie Yan. In a real battle, if a mage failed to detect a rogue approaching within two meters, it would be safe to say that the mage was as good as dead.
“This guy is too tough! Knife Scar, are you ready?” Thin Dog shouted toward the players on the east side, realizing they would have to use their ultimate moves.
“Thin Dog boss, we’re ready!” A tall, muscular man with a scar on his face shouted back.
Nie Yan felt slightly surprised, wondering what the Triumph players were planning.
“All warriors in the center, retreat immediately!” Thin Dog roared.
The warriors holding the line against the necromancer quickly withdrew. Knife Scar and another group of players pulled out scrolls, casting one after another in dazzling displays of light.
Curse of Weakness!
Curse of Darkness!
Frostbind!
…
These were all mid-tier scrolls, over a dozen in total, being used as if they were disposable. Even Nie Yan couldn’t help but feel a pang of distress seeing them consumed so recklessly.
Triumph was rich and powerful, they didn’t care about the cost. If they could defeat this boss, using these scrolls would be a worthwhile investment.
As the players continued to unleash scroll magic on the necromancer, the magic users from Triumph at the rear began their assault, using devastating area-of-effect spells.
Nie Yan glanced forward and spotted a familiar figure. It was Orange, who had once been defeated by Nie Yan. She was chanting a spell, rapidly gathering magical energy. One set of syllables passed, but the spell was not yet completed.
It must be a powerful spell, otherwise it wouldn’t require such a long casting time.
A barrage of scroll effects landed on the necromancer, significantly reducing his stats and binding him in place with mid-level magical effects.
The warriors and mages around quickly retreated, leaving a large open space.
Then, magical elements rapidly gathered in the sky, violently surging.
First came a hail of ice shards, crashing down on the ground and the necromancer, exploding into bursts of frost. The air around dropped sharply in temperature. A thick layer of frost covered the necromancer.
Elemental Hall’s ice magic, Frost Hail!
Next, a barrage of arcane fireballs rained down like a storm, mercilessly ravaging the necromancer and the surrounding area.
Arcane Art magic, Inferno Storm!
Then came another fire magic from the Elemental Hall.
Three mages capable of casting Elemental Hall and Arcane Art level spells—that was the true strength of the Triumph Empire. These players had undergone rigorous training to learn such powerful spells, which often proved devastating in guild battles. In contrast, not a single player from Nie Yan’s Niuren Tribe had yet learned such high-level magic.
This clearly showed how far the Niuren Tribe still had to go.
Under the relentless magical assault, the necromancer’s health steadily dropped: 17%, 13%, 9%…
The necromancer let out a piercing howl amid the flames. As his health neared depletion, his body suddenly began to change, rapidly growing larger, transforming into a massive bear covered in red fur. Standing five meters tall, like an ancient beast, his health surged dramatically.
“It’s a transformation! Everyone, be careful!” Orange said nervously, activating Arcane Stability and launching another wave of spells.
The bear reared up and then lunged forward, swiping its paw and sending a warrior flying. The warriors quickly swung their greatswords at the bear, but every strike missed.
“Physical immunity! All warriors, retreat!” Thin Dog shouted after his dagger failed to damage the bear.
“Keep your distance, it’s slow!”
The warriors around the bear quickly scattered, and the mages rapidly retreated, continuing to maintain high damage output while moving. The bear roared continuously but moved slowly, inching toward the forest.
The mages kept firing spells as they retreated. Beams of magic struck the bear, exploding in bursts of light.
Damage numbers floated above the bear’s head, though small—only a few points each. However, with so many mages from Triumph, the cumulative damage was still significant.
The battlefield gradually shifted backward as the group of mages retreated toward Nie Yan’s position.
Some mages passed right by Nie Yan, but their attention was entirely focused on the bear, completely unaware of Nie Yan hiding behind the tree.
Surrounded by Triumph players, Nie Yan’s situation seemed dangerous, but in reality, he was safe. He had pulled his hood over his head, concealing his identity. In such chaos, with so many players around, most wouldn’t even notice Nie Yan had infiltrated.
They never considered the possibility of an outsider being among them! With so many Triumph players patrolling outside, how could any other player possibly sneak in? Even if someone did, wouldn’t it be suicide to enter such a heavily populated area?
“It’s almost dead! Everyone, push harder!” Thin Dog shouted excitedly.
Orange paused briefly to drink a mana potion before resuming her furious assault.
“I’m out of mana!”
“Same here!”
Many players, even after using mana potions, still struggled with low mana reserves and quickly retreated to drink mana potions and replenish their magic.
The bear’s health dropped to only 2%. Swinging its massive paw, it struck out, snapping a tree that would require three players to wrap their arms around. The tree flew through the air, killing five or six players upon impact.
Despite the heavy casualties, their magical assault never ceased.
Several melee fighters attempted to approach the bear. Although their attacks were ineffective, they tried to block its path. But soon, they were driven back by the bear’s powerful attacks.
Nie Yan crept forward, staying hidden behind a tree only five meters away from the bear. Not a single player noticed him!
His exceptional stealth skills allowed him to completely blend into the background of the large tree.
Thin Dog, Orange, and the others couldn’t possibly imagine that Nie Yan was right there beside them, just within arm’s reach.
Although a faint sense of unease lingered in Orange’s mind, as if something was nearby, she naturally assumed all threats came from the bear.
With their full attention on the bear, who would notice such a minor detail?
Another wave of magic slammed into the bear. It let out a piercing roar before collapsing to the ground, its body rapidly shrinking back into the necromancer’s form.
“Finally dead. How many people did we lose?” Thin Dog asked, clearly pained by the heavy casualties.
“Haven’t counted, but at least thirty or forty!” Orange replied, looking at the corpses around. Just the necromancer’s earlier spell before transforming had killed more than twenty players. Adding those who died afterward, they had already seen more than thirty corpses.
The players slowly emerged from their hiding spots.
The battlefield was a mess. Some players rushed over to loot the equipment.
Nie Yan activated Shadowstep and dashed toward the necromancer’s corpse. His speed was clearly faster than the Triumph players. Several glowing items lay beneath the necromancer’s body, shimmering with allure.
