Chapter 9: I.7 The Modern World

Faced with Han Siyu’s “novel and unique” way of confessing her feelings, Xu Yi’an made it clear that he had no time to waste with a stranger who was acting so inexplicably. He still needed to buy dinner for the love of his life.

Thinking about his beloved’s delicate stomach that required careful attention, Xu Yi’an had even less patience to entertain Han Siyu’s antics.

Glancing at his watch, he replied coldly, “Miss, is there anything else you need? If not, could you step aside? I’m in a hurry.” The unspoken message was clear: *Speak now or get lost—I don’t have time for this nonsense.*

Han Siyu, stung by Xu Yi’an’s dismissive tone and the outright rejection in his expression and body language, couldn’t believe it. Her lips quivered, and tears welled up in her eyes. “Brother An, h-how could you talk to me like this?”

Xu Yi’an was baffled. *This is our first meeting—how familiar does she expect me to act?* Besides, he was currently pursuing Chu Yan. Getting too close to another woman would be a death wish. He wasn’t foolish enough to make that mistake.

Rolling his eyes, he said, “Miss, we’re both adults. Can we get to the point?” *This clingy behavior is embarrassing.*

Han Siyu, noticing the disdain in his gaze, clutched her chest dramatically, as if deeply wounded by a heartless scoundrel. Xu Yi’an resisted the urge to roll his eyes again.

Checking the time, he decided he’d wasted enough of it on this irrational woman. Seizing the moment while she was lost in her melodramatic *”We were so in love, yet you betrayed me and broke my heart!”* act, he swiftly got into his car and drove off.

As for what Han Siyu thought or felt afterward? Xu Yi’an couldn’t care less. He had always been somewhat indifferent, and right now, his priority was getting dinner for his beloved. He had no time to tarnish his reputation over some stranger.

Soon, Xu Yi’an forgot all about Han Siyu. To him, she was no different from the countless men and women who had tried to latch onto him for personal gain—just another forgettable passerby.

Left behind, Han Siyu sat on the ground in disbelief, muttering, “How could this happen? Brother An would never treat me like this! It must be that shameless little vixen poisoning his mind against me… How could he not love me?”

After a moment of self-delusion, she stood up, regaining her confidence.

Though she was willing to forgive Brother An for his momentary rudeness—after all, he loved her so much—she decided he needed to be taught a lesson later!

A little playful punishment would remind him not to take her love and patience for granted.

Smoothing her hair and adjusting her outfit, she made sure she looked stunning as she waited for her beloved “Brother Yan.”

Despite her future knowledge offering her better opportunities, Han Siyu was willing to give Brother Yan some beautiful memories—after all, he had once sacrificed his life for her.

Recalling the events that followed their first meeting, she flicked her hair and readied herself, waiting for her next “prey.”

Unfortunately for her, she would never meet her Brother Yan again.

After buying dinner, Xu Yi’an returned to the office to feed his beloved. The two happily finished their meal before receiving an invitation from Li Hui, who had reconciled with his family and wanted to thank them for their earlier help.

If not for their advice, Li Hui might have delayed his return home even longer. Since the Li and Xu families were close, the elders saw no issue in the younger generation bonding over a meal.

With the late hour and Chu Yan still needing to work overtime—and Xu Yi’an unwilling to leave his wife’s side—they postponed the dinner to a later date. Li Hui, easygoing as always, didn’t mind.

After confirming the dinner plans, Chu Yan dove back into work while Xu Yi’an assisted, occasionally offering suggestions. The atmosphere between them couldn’t have been more harmonious.

While the two enjoyed their sweet time together, Han Siyu was having a much harder night.

To catch Brother Yan’s attention at first glance, she had dressed provocatively—too lightly for the chilly early spring evening. Shivering, she rubbed her arms and stomped her feet in frustration when her target never appeared.

Accustomed to a pampered life under the protection of her “brothers,” Han Siyu had little tolerance for the cold. Eventually, she gave up and left, aggrieved.

In her heart, she bitterly blamed Chu Yan for her suffering. *How could the man who loved me so much let me endure this?*

Just as she walked away, she received a text—from the wealthy but unattractive benefactor she had once slept with before her rebirth.

Though she now looked down on the portly, mediocre man, the message intrigued her: an invitation to accompany him to a high-end banquet.

The man wanted to flaunt his beautiful companion, while Han Siyu saw an opportunity—she knew one of her “brothers” would be at the same venue for business.

Despite her failures with Xu Yi’an and Chu Yan, Han Siyu remained arrogantly confident in her charm. After all, she had once manipulated Li Hui into defying his family for her.

*Li Hui wasn’t bad,* she mused, *but he couldn’t meet my standards.* She vaguely recalled that, in her past life, he had died in a car accident after their breakup.

Not that she cared—his death had cleared the way for her to pursue Li Yao, the true heir of the Li family.

After finalizing her next scheme, she freshened up and headed to the banquet.

Dressed to impress, Han Siyu looked even more dazzling than usual. Her youthful beauty, refined by her past high-society life, made her benefactor preen with pride.

Yet, as the businessmen mingled, their companions—whether models or actresses—were treated as mere accessories. Once the initial admiration faded, they were forgotten.

Seizing the moment, Han Siyu discreetly slipped away, intending to find her “Brother Ling.”

Outside the banquet hall, she shuddered at the lecherous gazes she had endured. *Disgusting old men—how dare they look at me like that?* Still, their envy secretly pleased her.
