A century later, Yi Lingfan, having once again experienced death, closed his eyes peacefully alongside his beloved. Yet, his heart was filled with an unparalleled serenity. For them, death was never an end, but a new beginning.
Moreover, he had returned to this world, found love and family, helped and protected his friends, relatives, and colleagues, ensuring their fates ran their rightful courses. Each had earned the honor and status they deserved. Vengeance had been exacted, and those he wished to make amends with had been reconciled. Yi Lingfan was utterly content.
However, to his surprise, after death, Yi Lingfan did not enter the system space as before but found himself in an expanse of darkness. It was an inexplicable void, yet amidst his panic, he felt an odd sense of comfort—like the safety of being in a mother’s womb.
As Yi Lingfan surveyed his surroundings, trying to discern his location, an overwhelming drowsiness suddenly overtook him. He resisted the urge to succumb to this inexplicable sleep but ultimately failed, falling into a deep slumber.
Outside, a strikingly handsome man clad in white gazed at the massive black cocoon-like structure before him, his eyes softening with tender affection. Relieved, he reached out and gently caressed the dark “cocoon.” “Finally… I’ve brought you back…”
Inside the black “cocoon,” Yi Lingfan absorbed energy to heal the wounds on his body and soul, gradually recalling his true identity and the full story behind everything.
Yi Lingfan, originally named Ye Yun, was born from Chaos.
At the dawn of Chaos, it split into two primal forces: Creation and Destruction. The union of these forces birthed the Laws, which then gave rise to the myriad worlds—great, medium, and small—and eventually, living beings. Ye Yun emerged from Destruction.
Over an immeasurably long time, these primal forces developed sentience. Creation, Bai Zhou, was the first to “awaken,” serving as the Law’s guardian for an unfathomable period. When Destruction later manifested, Bai Zhou also took on the role of caretaker. In essence, Ye Yun was raised by Bai Zhou.
As time passed, Ye Yun grew, and the two gradually developed deeper feelings, eventually becoming partners.
Yet, just as they settled into their peaceful lives as Law guardians, an unexpected calamity struck.
With the proliferation of worlds and beings, malevolent thoughts born from living creatures began to accumulate within the cosmic order. Unnoticed by Bai Zhou, Ye Yun, or even the Laws themselves, this malice secretly grew, aspiring to devour Ye Yun and usurp his position.
The malice chose Ye Yun precisely because he was born of Destruction and darkness, making him far more compatible for its purposes than Bai Zhou, who embodied Creation.
But the malice underestimated its foes. As a Law guardian, Ye Yun was immensely powerful, not to mention Bai Zhou’s unwavering protection. Though the malice was strong, consuming Ye Yun was no easy feat.
Thus, the malice set a trap.
Ye Yun, though wise and formidable, had been sheltered too well by Bai Zhou. While intelligent, he lacked worldly cunning. When he heard that Bai Zhou had fallen into a trap and was on the brink of death, he panicked, allowing the malice to exploit his vulnerability.
In truth, Bai Zhou’s peril was a fabrication. But in his distress, Ye Yun faltered. By the time Bai Zhou returned, it was too late.
Bai Zhou managed only to disperse the malice and rescue Ye Yun, placing him within a black “cocoon” woven from Destruction’s essence to heal.
Yet, to Bai Zhou’s dismay, the malice’s assault had damaged Ye Yun’s soul. Though weak, the malice, born from the darkest emotions of living beings, struck with enough force to wound Ye Yun’s very essence. Healing such an injury proved difficult.
Thus, Bai Zhou devised a plan: Ye Yun would reincarnate into lesser worlds, accumulating virtue and faith to mend his soul.
Given Ye Yun’s importance, Bai Zhou meticulously arranged his incarnations, ensuring favorable conditions for his growth and mission—even without memories.
As for romantic entanglements, Bai Zhou was unconcerned. Bound by the Laws as partners, he trusted Ye Yun implicitly, believing he would never betray him, memory or not.
Originally intending to accompany Ye Yun, Bai Zhou was forced to stay behind to clean up the malice’s remnants. When he finally checked on Ye Yun’s progress, he found things had gone awry.
The malice, though dispersed, had hidden a fragment of itself, evading Bai Zhou’s notice. It followed Ye Yun into the lesser worlds, subtly altering his fate to ensure tragic deaths, siphoning his power through so-called “protagonists,” and corrupting the worlds’ Laws.
Like a butterfly flapping its wings to cause a hurricane, the malice sought to create chaos.
Born of negative emotions, the malice could possess those consumed by darkness. It cared nothing for the worlds’ eventual collapse, so long as it grew stronger.
Later, the malice even posed as a “Cannon Fodder System,” manipulating the amnesiac Yi Lingfan to harvest Ye Yun’s power across worlds.
Eventually, Bai Zhou uncovered the plot.
Heartbroken by his beloved’s suffering, Bai Zhou sealed his own memories and reincarnated into the final world where Yi Lingfan had been taken, becoming his lover. At the critical moment, he awakened his power and destroyed the malice for good.
Yet Ye Yun’s soul still needed healing. To prevent further mishaps, Bai Zhou merged their powers to create the “Jinjiang System,” guiding Yi Lingfan’s journey.
After ensuring all was ready, Bai Zhou, still memory-sealed, reincarnated once more to stand by his lover’s side.
Now, with his soul healed and memories restored, Ye Yun emerged from the cocoon—and there stood Bai Zhou, waiting. Overcome, Ye Yun rushed into his arms. “Zhouzhou! I’m sorry for worrying you…”
Bai Zhou smiled, ruffling Ye Yun’s hair. “You’re my heart’s treasure. Never apologize.”
Reunited, the two retreated to their chambers, lost in each other.
Meanwhile, the bewildered Jinjiang System was ushered away by an attendant.
After these trials, Bai Zhou and Ye Yun’s bond deepened. They often visited lesser worlds incognito, savoring cultures, cuisines, and… other pleasures.
Ye Yun blushed at the memories.
Bai Zhou, ever the gentleman in appearance, was anything but in private. Ye Yun gritted his teeth, sore from their “cultural explorations.”
And so, they lived their “peaceful” lives as Law guardians…
Ye Yun: “Peaceful my foot! Bai Zhou, get lost! I need sleep—actual sleep, not the verb!”
Bai Zhou: “^.^”
