Chapter 1380: Calamity

History changed. The Bull Demon King never visited the Bodhisattva of Joy’s cave abode, never drank the Water of Forgotten Love spanning three lives and three worlds, nor encountered the Yin Seed of the Bewitching Maiden. Yet, the Bodhisattva of Joy still followed the Heavenly Emperor’s orders and left her cave abode moments ago, attempting to flee into the starry sea and hide within the immortal realm.

As her escape light had just risen, a faint sigh suddenly echoed in her ears—as if emerging from the primordial chaos, yet also reverberating from the future. It carried the lament of using the myriad realms as a chessboard and the fates of all beings as pieces, where even the ability to “undo a move” had its limits, and there were still choices left unmade despite the power to act!

The voice seeped into her heart, and the Bodhisattva of Joy felt an inexplicable dread. Before her, the heavens and earth abruptly darkened as a vast sleeve descended from the sky, enveloping all things and reshaping the cosmos!

Not punishing Nezha did not mean Meng Qi would do nothing in this matter. Daring to scheme against the disciples of the Jade Void—did they truly think the Primordial Heavenly Venerable was one to swallow insults?

Especially the Bodhisattva of Joy, who had directly acted—she would not be spared!

The sleeve unfurled, replacing the heavens and earth, and the Bodhisattva of Joy was instantly plunged into indescribable darkness. At that moment, a glimmer of light abruptly emerged, as if leaping silently from the illusory waters of the River of Time, staining the Sleeve-Cosmos with a hazy glow. The shimmering radiance twisted the flow of time, reversing its course.

The Heavenly Emperor had intervened!

The darkness gradually receded as the sleeve retracted along its original trajectory, slow and heavy, resisting the “rewind” effect of the Blade of Time until it finally “released” the bewildered Bodhisattva of Joy.

The blade’s light loomed high, resonating from all directions, severing the connection between the sleeve and the River of Time, preventing it from descending into the surging currents and directly interfering with the real world.

This strike was profound beyond words, a testament to the Heavenly Emperor’s overwhelming dominance in his era!

Within the dim and solemn Jade Void Palace, a surge of pristine qi soared into the heavens, transforming into a cyan-blue crystalline Buddha. Its right hand hung downward, palm outward, in a gesture of universal salvation. Simultaneously, the sleeve retracted, revealing a powerful fist clenched in emptiness, pulling and warping spacetime, bringing forth the earliest chaos—the primordial Wuji!

Buddha-light and Wuji descended together, neither dark nor bright, neutralizing the unfathomable flow of time, leaving behind only serene skies and gentle breezes.

After manifesting the True Calm Tathagata, Meng Qi could now stand toe-to-toe with the Heavenly Emperor, who had once dominated an era!

At that moment, a scroll flew out from the Demon Emperor’s Palace, depicting mountains, rivers, sun, moon, and stars, along with realms of immortals and the Nine Nethers. It replaced the reality around the Bodhisattva of Joy, seeking to seal her within.

Yet the sky above suddenly darkened into a swirling crimson, resembling countless frenzied and chaotic eyes. From the depths of the Nine Nethers, a mysterious and eerie seal emerged, plunging the myriad realms within the Scroll of Mountains and Rivers into cycles of reincarnation, forming a barrier. The Demon Buddha and the Heavenly Dao Monster joined forces, blocking the scroll and the Demon Saint Spear!

For the moment, with no other Nirvana-level beings intervening, the two sides were nearly evenly matched, making it difficult to alter the Bodhisattva of Joy’s current fate!

Meng Qi sat solemnly within the Jade Void Palace, his gaze profound and unyielding.

Two to three hundred years ago, within the Pure Maiden Immortal Realm, he infiltrated the palace of the Joy Sect, attempting to assassinate the Bodhisattva of Mirror Words.

With a single palm strike, purple lightning coiled and expanded, transforming from a mere thunderbolt capable of breaking external barriers into a cataclysmic storm capable of annihilating heaven and earth!

Boom!

Half of the Pure Maiden Immortal Realm was on the verge of being submerged in a sea of lightning. Every inch of the Joy Sect’s territory trembled in fear of utter annihilation. The Bodhisattva of Joy, barely clinging to life in the depths of the forbidden zone, jolted awake—only to find no escape!

Boom!

A dull roar erupted as waves of light poured from the highest reaches of the Pure Maiden Immortal Realm, enveloping the lightning, reversing time, and condensing the multicolored flashes of purple, white, cyan, and gold back into their original singular point, neutralizing them into nothingness.

The battle between the two Nirvana-level beings was not confined to the present—it extended endlessly into the past. One side sought to seize every opportunity, while the other aimed to erase every trace of threat!

Such a battle was beyond the comprehension of those still trapped in the sea of suffering, leaving no records within the Myriad Worlds Communication Network.

Boom, boom, boom! Meng Qi and the Heavenly Emperor’s clashes spanned over a thousand years of the Joy Sect’s glory, the early Middle Ages before they were taken in by the Mystic Maiden Sect, and even the ancient era of the Heavenly Court’s fall.

Boom!

Hundreds of thousands of years ago, within the South Sea’s Purple Bamboo Grove.

The Great Compassionate Bodhisattva Guanyin sat upon a lotus throne, expounding the Heart Sutra to the children, arhats, and vajra guardians of her Pure Land. Outside, lightning flashed and thunder roared, with torrential rain alternating between darkness and brilliance, as if the apocalypse had arrived.

The Seal of Wuji, the Seal of Creation, the Purple Lightning Divine Thunder, and several forms of the Tathagata’s Palm were unleashed in succession as Meng Qi battled the Heavenly Emperor—whose blade contained three lives and three worlds—outside the Purple Bamboo Grove, above the Thirty-Three Heavens. Meanwhile, the Demon Emperor and the Heavenly Dao Monster remained locked in stalemate at the present node.

Boom!

With a thunderclap, all things cowered. Within the Purple Bamboo Grove, a young girl shuddered, her dark, alluring eyes darting about as she stole glances at the dazzling lightning soon swallowed by the rippling rain.

Already distracted from the sutra lecture, her thoughts now wandered further—to her own interpretations and her secret descent to the mortal realm, recalling the ecstasy of physical and spiritual fulfillment, stirring a restless heat within her.

Boom!

The girl sensed no danger. The Purple Bamboo Grove remained tranquil, untouched by wind or thunder.

When two sides were nearly equal in strength, the one preventing change clearly held the advantage!

The Bodhisattva of Joy could not be killed now—nor in the past!

At that moment, the white-robed Guanyin on the lotus throne suddenly turned her gaze upon the girl, her eyes flashing with purple lightning as she solemnly declared, “Wretched creature!”

A single finger pointed, striking the girl between her brows.

The youthful Bodhisattva of Joy stared blankly, unable to believe the Great Compassionate Bodhisattva would strike her down without cause!

She had only broken a few minor precepts—at worst, she would be expelled, not executed…

Outside, waves of light surged violently, only to be devoured by a boundless chaos and reinforced layer upon layer by crystalline Buddha-light.

This time, it was Meng Qi’s turn to defend!

Hundreds of years earlier, when Meng Qi first entered the Heavenly Pillar Mountain to meet the Undying Demon God, and later when he traversed the River of Time from the Nine Nethers to seek her at the rift between worlds, the mere imprint of her drew forth the dazzling purple lightning of the Overlord’s Saber. With the Seal of the Dao’s Unity, he deceived heaven and earth, delivering this peerless weapon to the Undying Demon God.

The Undying Demon God’s true spirit flew forth, riding the connection between them to briefly possess the golden body of the Great Compassionate Bodhisattva Guanyin in the Purple Bamboo Grove. At the critical moment, a single condemnation cleansed the household, turning Meng Qi’s passivity into initiative!

The finger struck her brow—form is emptiness, emptiness is form. The girl-shaped Bodhisattva of Joy, consumed by confusion and terror, was engulfed in formless flames, burned to ashes without a trace.

Boom!

The River of Time roared violently, its torrents surging. Every incarnation of the Bodhisattva of Joy in history dissolved like fleeting dreams, her legacy vanishing like a spring dream upon waking—extending into the recent past and the present node. Gone were the celestial maidens who once offered their flesh, the classic divisions of potent elixirs and mere dregs. Time contracted, giving rise to other schools of dual cultivation to partially fill the void left by the Joy Sect, ensuring history remained largely unchanged.

At the present node, the Bodhisattva of Joy’s face twisted in terror as her body grew illusory, on the verge of vanishing entirely.

Those who scheme against the Jade Void Palace must pay the price!

The River of Time surged, branching into new possible futures.

At that moment, a cold snort echoed from the heavens. Waves of light condensed into a sphere, crashing down to envelop the Bodhisattva of Joy’s fading form, solidifying her existence and tracing backward to forge imprints of her past, altering the river’s flow.

These imprints moved against the current of time. This time, the Bodhisattva of Joy was no longer a disciple of Guanyin but a product of the Joy Temple’s indulgences—a woman of extraordinary talent who reversed the roles, draining the monks who sought to exploit her before defecting. She later acquired fragments of ancient teachings, ascending to the Legendary Realm just before Meng Qi’s own apotheosis.

While other Nirvana-level beings erased the past to rewrite history, the Heavenly Emperor could fabricate a past to sustain existence!

Yet even for Him, this came at a cost—no trivial feat.

The Bodhisattva of Joy’s body solidified once more, revived—but her past was now a lie, forever barring her from further advancement.

Witnessing this, Meng Qi withdrew his sleeve and the Overlord’s Saber, allowing the Undying Demon God to return to her original path—though not without awakening her past self in the process.

Then, seated within the Jade Void Palace beneath a radiant halo, Meng Qi turned his gaze once more to the past—to Han Guang, who had once impersonated the Shaolin abbot!

Hidden within a fragment of the Primordial World, Han Guang’s heart clenched, his hair standing on end.

But at that very moment, a pure and serene light spilled forth from the Vacuous Pure Land, now fused with the Netherworld, dissolving all tension into nothingness.
