Chapter 1173: Standing Alone Against the Four Envoys

“Teaching and guiding all beings: Light walks upon water, good and evil are distinct. The Old Mother descends into the world, and wandering children return home.”

As the Divine Enforcer of the Sacred Canon turned the pages of the white lotus scripture in his hand, as this verse echoed, the “immortal realm” isolated by the Divine Enforcer of the Precious Vase suddenly changed. The dark whirlpools sank downward, merging into an endless sea of suffering. Light floated upon the ocean’s surface, revealing various forms of beauty, evoking yearning, embodying tranquility, and resembling one’s homeland.

Yet within the sea of suffering and dark whirlpools, pale and terrifying arms stretched out, attempting to pull any immortal attempting to cross the sea into the depths, trapping them forever, preventing salvation unless they worshipped the Eternal Mother, the only path to redemption.

“The Descent Sutra of the Eternal Mother”—the precious raft that rescues beings from the sea of suffering!

Those who believe shall live; those who disbelieve shall perish!

Faced with this boundless sea of suffering, Meng Qi couldn’t help but feel an inescapable sense of entrapment, as if he had prematurely experienced the realm of Creation at the Legend stage—the despair of an endless sea with no trace of a shore.

What an excellent Divine Enforcer, what a “Descent Sutra of the Eternal Mother”!

At this moment, a timid and bashful voice, like Gu Xiaosang’s, came from within Meng Qi:

“Father, without reaching Creation, one cannot see the sea of suffering. Even holding the Descent Sutra, how could the Divine Enforcer of the Sacred Canon possibly lead others into suffering? It’s merely an illusion created by establishing a separate set of laws, half truth and half deception.”

With the experience and insight of the Golden Emperor, the methods of the Luo Sect held no secrets for her.

Actually, your way of addressing people is more unsettling than the ‘sea of suffering’ conjured by the Sacred Canon… Meng Qi inwardly retorted. He had already grasped the situation. Then, before the Divine Enforcers of the Sacred Canon, the Precious Vase, the Lampbearer, and the Curtainbearer could react, he rose tall, like a deity emerging from the depths of chaos. Around him appeared a quiet, flowing illusory river, whose source and destination were unknown.

“There shall be no sea of suffering in this world!”

Before the Lampbearer, the Precious Vase, and the Curtainbearer could launch their attacks, Meng Qi pointed his joined fingers and proclaimed loudly, as if the God of Creation and the Cause of All Effects was establishing laws for all worlds!

Boom! A muffled sound echoed. The pale, hideous arms vanished like foam, and the dark whirlpools composing the sea of suffering crumbled inch by inch. Without the contrast of suffering, the beauty above became mundane.

One word can become the law for all under heaven!

When it came to manipulating fate and controlling rules, in all legends, who could rival Meng Qi, who bore the characteristics of the Other Shore?

The sea of suffering shattered, and the waves rolled backward, blocking the Divine Enforcers of the Precious Vase, the Lampbearer, and the Curtainbearer, who had swung their staff, tilted the vase, and ignited the lamp. Seizing this opportunity, Meng Qi pushed up his bamboo hat.

A stream of pure energy surged from his mudra palace, soaring into the sky, spreading out in all directions.

Beside Sha Wujing, brilliant star systems connected into a profound and vast universe, exuding an immense and terrifying aura. He raised his staff, shattered the waves of suffering, and was about to attack Meng Qi when a handsome monk with red lips and white teeth appeared before him.

Smiling slightly, the monk said, “Senior Su, this humble monk comes to aid you!”

He touched his thumb and middle finger together, as if holding a flower, and gently brushed them toward Sha Wujing.

With this gesture, Sha Wujing seemed to see a golden Buddha filled with Buddhist serenity, as if he had gained profound insight and was about to achieve instant Buddhahood, causing a smile to involuntarily appear on his face.

It felt like the moment he had entered the Sacred Mountain and paid homage to the Buddha… He was momentarily lost in thought.

The Lampbearer held a crystal lamp, its light blazing, illuminating the ten directions and ten thousand worlds, dispelling all darkness from the sea of suffering, and clearly revealing Meng Qi.

Just as he was about to divide the light and form the “Lamp Realm for Wandering Souls of the Ten Directions,” a towering figure suddenly appeared before him—not a metaphor, but a literal statement.

This figure was magnificent and heroic, golden and eternal, indestructible and uncorrupted, never to be erased. He assumed the posture of the Heavenly Image, possessing three heads and six arms. One head gazed proudly, its wisdom eye open. Another transformed into the Candle Dragon, its eyes opening and closing, causing winter and summer to alternate. The third became the Bifang bird, devouring scattered lamplight. Five arms displayed various states, each embodying parts of divine beasts and celestial birds, a veritable mobile “treasury of mystical powers” and “arsenal of combat,” none other than Meng Qi’s Immortal Dao Body, his Eight-Nine Transformation.

“Senior Su, I come to aid you!” the towering figure thundered. One of his arms raised a saber wreathed in purple lightning, striking down with mighty force upon the Lampbearer holding the Lamp of the Wandering Son.

His violent and overwhelming aura even caused the Lampbearer to tremble slightly.

The Divine Enforcer of the Precious Vase formed hand seals, manifesting the mouth of the vase, countless figures emerging around him, converging into a cold torrent about to surge forth. Suddenly, a pure sword light appeared beside him, splitting into two, then four, then eight, transforming into countless sword beams that formed a grand formation, enveloping the area.

The swordsman who unleashed this light was a cold and elegant figure in white robes. He spoke calmly:

“Senior Su, I come to aid you!”

The sword beams expanded and contracted, trapping the Divine Enforcer of the Precious Vase at the center.

Before the Sacred Canon Enforcer, Meng Qi’s aura grew increasingly profound, as if it could embrace all things, evoking the primordial beginning.

His expression remained calm, embodying both good and evil. He raised his right hand, his body expanding, descending from the heavens, his palm containing the three realms, making the Sacred Canon Enforcer seem as tiny as an ant.

The Sacred Canon Enforcer had long known that Su Meng had mastered the Great Art of Manifesting the Three Pure Ones, so this encounter was not unexpected. He flipped through the Descent Sutra, forming lotus after lotus, as if summoning the Pure Land of Emptiness.

Su Meng’s Manifestation of the Three Pure Ones was not yet perfected—it was merely a division of his body created through different techniques, significantly weaker than his true self!

Certainly, dealing with a Legend who had awakened prematurely and was not at his peak was barely manageable. But the question remained: how long could the Manifestation of the Three Pure Ones be sustained?

Indeed, the Four Divine Enforcers of the Luo Sect had not come unprepared!

On the Sealing Heaven Platform, facing the incarnated body of Maitreya, the Great Bodhisattva destined to become a Buddha in the future, Shao Xuan and Xi E, though aware that anxiety and tension were futile, still felt a similar sense of urgency, though it did not affect their minds.

Maitreya’s method of incarnation required gradual cultivation anew. Even with experience and insight, and with power “granted” by his original body, he could advance rapidly, but there was still a process involved, and he could not violate the laws of martial cultivation or the nature of the Reward Body. At present, he had merely returned to the Legend stage, not yet ascending to Creation, and thus there was no need to fear him.

Of course, since his original body remained intact, upon reattaining the Legend stage, there might not be any extraordinary phenomena. When Maitreya reached the peak of Legend, this body would fully bear the descent of his original self. Then, the Future Buddha, chosen by both the Buddha and Amitabha, would display the full might of a Great Artisan, without any diminishment.

As these thoughts passed between them, the two activated the Doomsday Vessel. The pavilion ship expanded, transforming into a massive warship that shielded the Sealing Heaven Platform and the Five Emperors’ Altar behind it.

The ship’s divine suppression techniques surged forth in layers, presenting an impregnable appearance, with Shao Xuan and Xi E standing together at the bow.

Maitreya, seated high upon a white lotus throne, did not personally intervene but instead watched with a smile as the two human Legends responded. Within the surrounding pure crystal, two sudden golden forms emerged from the hazy shadows.

They both bore protuberances on their heads and halos behind their heads, connected to myriad worlds. Their overlapping figures formed mighty Bodhisattvas—one holding a sutra, the other a precious vase. These were Maitreya Buddha’s attendants: the Bodhisattva Dharmalankara and the Bodhisattva Mahacitta, both of whom had descended and cultivated anew to the point of being ready to welcome their master’s descent.

Page after page of the Maitreya Sutra turned, unleashing countless ten-thousand-character divine talismans. Each manifestation of Dharmalankara formed a Buddhist mudra, chanting scriptures and radiating wisdom light. Together, they coalesced into the “Buddha Light of Salvation for the Future World,” surging toward the Doomsday Vessel.

Mahacitta tilted the precious vase, from which surged a dazzling and endless Ganges-like river, rushing toward Shao Xuan and Xi E.

Light erupted as the Buddha Light and the Ganges simultaneously struck the Doomsday Vessel, causing the yellow and black merit to fall like rain, rippling with waves of grace.

But ultimately, it was a treasure crafted to survive the end of an aeon. Even incomplete, the Doomsday Vessel withstood the assault without sustaining damage.

Shao Xuan and Xi E exchanged a glance, seeing determination in each other’s eyes.

Then, one activated the Doomsday Vessel, while the other retrieved the Imperial Seal, forming complex mudras and pressing downward.

Boom!

From within the Changle Palace, a pale golden sword beam suddenly shot forth, piercing deep into the Sealing Heaven Platform. A muffled sound came from there, shaking heaven and earth. Layers of high-altitude illusions appeared, as if revealing the Nine Heavens!

Seeing this scene, Maitreya’s expression slightly changed.

Since the Sealing Heaven Platform was being established, wouldn’t Shao Xuan and Xi E have assessed the balance of power and anticipated future interference?

At their level, they would not place their hopes on others’ momentary oversight or sudden mercy. Their decision must have been based on the possibility of resisting interference from various factions.

Although this possibility might not be great, it certainly existed!

Yu Banshan and Qi Jinxiu were astonished by the disappearance of the Sealing Heaven Platform, standing by the window, gazing in that direction.

After a few breaths, they suddenly sensed a majestic kingly aura and saw a pale golden sword beam rising from the palace, carrying the power of all beings, slicing powerfully into a region of darkness.

“The Human Emperor has acted?” Yu Banshan murmured.

As Qi Jinxiu was about to speak, she suddenly stopped, pointing upward with her right hand:

“The moon and stars have vanished too!”

Yu Banshan looked up and saw that the moonlight and stars that had previously bathed the land were gone, as if hidden by a thick shadow, leaving everything in pitch darkness.

Focusing his gaze, Yu Banshan’s scalp prickled, for the shadow resembled a single wing!

Could one wing alone cover the entire sky of Changle?
