Chapter 30: Temporary Team-Up

Among Lu Jiang’s group, there was also a companion with spatial abilities.

So they knew better than anyone that spatial abilities had no combat power. Apart from having a small space to store a few bottles of water and some food, it was completely useless.

When they heard that He Si actually had spatial abilities, they were naturally disappointed.

And when they learned Yao Zuizui had no abilities at all, their disagreements grew even stronger.

“Neither of them has any combat power. Teaming up with them would mean having to protect them—better just forget it.”

“Yeah, they’d just be deadweight. Let them fend for themselves.”

“If He Si wants to join us, that’s fine—at least he’s an ability user. But that woman? Forget it. She’s destined to hold everyone back.” Jiang Zi shot Yao Zuizui a smug glance.

Lu Jiang remained silent, listening to his teammates argue back and forth before finally making the decision: “It’s getting dark, and nights are dangerous. Protecting He Si and Qi Qiqi won’t take much effort. Let’s temporarily team up to gather supplies and make it through the night. We can decide what to do tomorrow.”

Lu Jiang was the strongest in the group, possessing a formidable lightning-based ability.

A single strike from his lightning could fry a zombie to a crisp.

Thus, Lu Jiang also held the most authority among them.

No one dared to argue when he spoke.

Only Yao Zuizui was displeased.

These people—daring to look down on *her*?

They hadn’t even asked if *she* wanted to team up with *them*! Seriously…

She was just about to refuse outright and knock them down a peg when He Si stepped forward with a serene smile. “Sure, thank you all.”

Yao Zuizui gave He Si a strange look.

She had noticed something: He Si really liked teaming up with others.

Whether he was the one extending the invitation—like when he invited her and Feng Ran—or when others invited him, like now, he always agreed without hesitation.

In short, his actions seemed entirely focused on forming teams.

Yao Zuizui knew this had to be connected to He Si’s secret.

But she didn’t have time to dwell on it. Night was falling, and she needed to gather supplies quickly while also finding a safe place for Feng Ran and the others.

So she ignored the group standing across from her and resumed her “apocalypse shopping spree.”

“He Si, catch.”

“Take some of these too.”

“Pack all of this for me.”

At first, Lu Jiang’s group had planned to wait for Yao Zuizui and the others to finish before moving on to the next store, watching them leisurely.

But the more they watched, the more unsettled they became.

Then they glanced at their own spatial ability user.

Were these really the same spatial abilities?

Why was He Si able to stuff nearly the entire pharmacy’s stock into his space—and still keep going effortlessly?

Truly, someone with such a unique aura must have an equally unique version of the same ability…

Yao Zuizui and He Si ignored the increasingly astonished stares from the group.

After clearing several stores along the way, the two had developed a new level of默契.

So they seamlessly finished gathering supplies from the pharmacy, then walked past the group and headed straight for the next store.

Lu Jiang’s group hurried after them.

With Lu Jiang and the others joining, Yao Zuizui’s workload lightened considerably.

They all assumed she was weak in combat, so they never gave her a chance to fight—clearing out zombies before they could even get close.

She didn’t mind the free ride, though she had to ignore the occasional disdainful glances.

Only Lu Jiang was genuinely decent—the type who, before the apocalypse, would’ve been constantly “friend-zoned.”

He was the strongest, yet he sincerely cared for everyone around him.

People like him naturally exuded righteousness—everything they did seemed noble, bright, and open-hearted.

After clearing a few more stores, Yao Zuizui realized there wasn’t much new to collect.

The same types of supplies kept appearing, and she had already gathered plenty.

While Lu Jiang’s group struggled to stuff their backpacks full, agonizing over what to leave behind, Yao Zuizui remained completely at ease.

She casually tossed whatever she wanted to He Si, creating a stark contrast.

The others watched her with envy, and their gazes toward He Si lost some of their earlier condescension.

Even if he lacked combat power, he was a *mobile warehouse*!

And in the apocalypse, a mobile warehouse was a treasure!

Their attitudes toward He Si warmed considerably, even bordering on fawning.

Jiang Zi, in particular, practically glued herself to him.

Yet He Si maintained his usual smile, deftly avoiding her advances without letting her so much as brush his sleeve.

After leaving the wholesale market, Yao Zuizui led the group toward the car where Feng Ran and the priest were waiting.

When Feng Ran and the priest stepped out, Lu Jiang’s group reacted with mixed expressions.

Lu Jiang himself was unfazed, quickly accepting the situation and mentally preparing to protect two more people.

The other three men had initially been reluctant—until they got a good look at Feng Ran’s beauty and the natural allure in her movements. Their smiles widened instantly.

Only Jiang Zi remained displeased. “Two more burdens? Seriously…”

She kicked a small pebble in frustration, sending it skittering against Yao Zuizui’s foot.

Yao Zuizui glanced at her, then introduced, “This is Feng Ran, my best friend—no abilities. And this… is the priest. Light-based abilities, capable of healing.”

At the mention of light abilities, the group’s expressions softened, even showing hints of excitement.

Even Jiang Zi couldn’t hide a flicker of delight.

It seemed Lu Jiang’s judgment had been right.

A mobile warehouse *and* a light-based healer?

They’d hit the jackpot!

Seeing no objections, Lu Jiang quickly proposed, “It’s almost completely dark. Let’s find a safe place to spend the night.”

“Agreed,” everyone chorused.

They eventually settled on a three-story standalone house, with three rooms per floor—enough for each person to have their own.

The location was ideal, too: no dense buildings nearby, just a few scattered houses hundreds of meters apart.

Yao Zuizui’s group and Lu Jiang’s group agreed to take turns keeping watch while the others rested and recovered.

Yao Zuizui was paired with Lu Jiang for the night shift.

Feng Ran, using some maneuvering, ended up paired with He Si.

Yao Zuizui was woken by Feng Ran at four in the morning.

Bleary-eyed, she stepped out just as Lu Jiang emerged from his room.

They walked downstairs to the living room together.

The night was eerily silent—so quiet that even their footsteps felt unnerving.

The darkness was terrifyingly oppressive.
