Chapter 22: Hurry Up and Break Up

Zhai Mo knocked on Yao Zuizui’s door.

After waiting patiently for three seconds and receiving no response, his patience ran out.

Fortunately, he had already instructed the household servants to prepare a spare key to Yao Zuizui’s room.

Feeling relieved, Zhai Mo unceremoniously pushed open Yao Zuizui’s door.

As soon as he stepped inside, a delicate fragrance filled the air.

*What a useless guy, spraying perfume at home?*

*Or is this scent from some woman he brought back?*

Zhai Mo couldn’t stand it any longer. He strode forward and yanked the blanket off Yao Zuizui.

Though Yao Zuizui wore loose silk pajamas, she always bound her chest while sleeping to avoid exposure.

But her pajamas were short, barely reaching her thighs, and she only wore underwear underneath, leaving her fair legs exposed.

*How is this guy so pale?*

Zhai Mo’s gaze burned, the whiteness almost blinding him. He couldn’t bear to look any longer, which was why he didn’t notice anything unusual about Yao Zuizui.

Yao Zuizui had been deep in a dream, soaring through the heavens on a crane with an immortal master, when she was abruptly awakened. Annoyed, she scowled.

“Brother, what are you doing?” She pulled the blanket back over herself, glaring at Zhai Mo.

*You pervert, where are you looking?!*

Zhai Mo stared back at her, equally displeased. “I came to check if you were dead.”

“…” *What kind of nonsense is that?!* Furious, Yao Zuizui flung the blanket aside and stood on the bed, declaring confidently, “Don’t worry, I’m alive and well! Eating, drinking, and having fun—so happy I don’t even miss home!”

She knew Zhai Mo couldn’t stand her happiness, that he was jealous of her.

So she deliberately provoked him, wanting to make him even more envious.

Zhai Mo’s eyes involuntarily drifted downward again. *How are this guy’s legs more attractive than any woman’s I’ve ever seen?*

So fair and straight, with skin so tender it looked like it could be pinched to water.

Under his intense gaze, Yao Zuizui inexplicably felt shy and took a step back.

Her bed was too soft. With just a slight misstep, she sank into it.

Losing her balance, she stumbled and fell straight into Zhai Mo’s arms.

Catching his “brother,” Zhai Mo noticed the delicate fragrance even more distinctly.

“What perfume are you wearing?” Zhai Mo hated perfume—it always made him sneeze.

But surprisingly, he didn’t find Yao Zuizui’s scent repulsive at all.

Yao Zuizui tilted her head. “Brother, do you want some too? It’s a limited edition—you can’t buy it anymore.”

*If you want to smell it, you’ll just have to hug me more… because this is my natural scent.* She couldn’t help feeling smug.

Zhai Mo realized he’d been holding his “brother” for a full minute without letting go.

The moment he noticed, he immediately released her, dropping her like a hot potato. Yao Zuizui landed back on the bed.

Luckily, the bed was soft—otherwise, her backside would’ve been bruised.

Grimacing, she glared at Zhai Mo, who had already resumed his stern, authoritative elder-brother demeanor.

Clearing his throat, Zhai Mo demanded sternly, “Where have you been these days? I haven’t seen a trace of you.”

“Heh.” Yao Zuizui forced a smile. “I… haven’t been doing much. Just chatting with girlfriends and having a few drinks.”

Zhai Mo exploded. “You! I’ve seen the files Assistant Zhou compiled on your past girlfriends. What kind of women are you dating, huh? Bar hostesses, KTV singers, even… even streetwalkers! Aren’t you afraid of catching something incurable?”

Yao Zuizui yawned lazily and waved him off. “Brother, relax. I know what I’m doing.”

In truth, the original Zhai Zuozuo had deliberately sought out those women, and she had continued the tradition.

She didn’t interfere with those who willingly entered the trade for luxury bags, phones, or clothes.

But for those forced into it—to support siblings’ education, parents’ medical bills, or family survival—she extended a helping hand.

By pretending to be Zhai Zuozuo’s girlfriend for a few days, they received enough money to never have to work in that industry again.

This way, Zhai Zuozuo could conceal her gender while helping others. A win-win.

*Life is hard. No one sells their body or soul unless they have no choice.*

And money was as easy to come by as wind for Zhai Zuozuo, so she never hesitated to help.

“Hmph, you’re certainly generous,” Zhai Mo sneered. “The amount you spend on a few days with those women is ten, even a hundred times what others pay to keep college students.”

Yao Zuizui shrugged. “My family’s rich…”

“Money isn’t meant to be wasted like this! No more of these ‘girlfriends,’ understood?” Zhai Mo barked.

“Fine, I get it.” Yao Zuizui lowered her head, her expression darkening.

“Don’t sulk,” Zhai Mo said, softening his tone. He knew forbidding his “brother” from dating was a bit much. “I’ll help you find a proper girlfriend.”

“Thanks, brother!” Yao Zuizui flashed a bright, toothy grin.

*This idiot… smiling like that just because I mentioned setting him up with someone.* Zhai Mo felt inexplicably irritated.

“From now on, you’ll stay by my side and learn properly. You need to grow up and take responsibility—no more fooling around.” Zhai Mo had found the perfect excuse to keep the “useless guy” close.

Only by seeing and hearing him every day could Zhai Mo feel at ease, his anger kept at bay.

The thought of Yao Zuizui running wild out of his sight was unbearable.

“Got it,” Yao Zuizui muttered, her face sullen.

Zhai Mo’s mood soured too. *Does he really dislike being with me that much?*

*Before, he used to follow me everywhere—work, meals—always calling me ‘brother’ this and ‘brother’ that.*

Zhai Mo realized this “useless guy’s” heart was harder to decipher than a woman’s. *So annoying.*

In the days that followed, Zhai Mo grew even more frustrated.

Because keeping Yao Zuizui by his side seemed like a terrible mistake.

It only made him more conflicted, more restless, and quicker to anger.
