Chapter 55: Life and Death in Peril

Yun Qingxue jumped off the bed, only to be cornered by the three individuals surrounding her.

She forced herself to appear calm as she stared at them—the same man and two women she had encountered during her meal.

“I don’t believe we’ve met before, nor do we have any grudges between us, do we?”

“Hmph! No, we don’t,” one of the women replied coldly, her tone laced with sarcasm.

“Then why are you trying to kill me?” Yun Qingxue asked, puzzled. Her gaze instinctively flicked under the table—Hua Yin was gone. When had he slipped away? What a disloyal man! These three hostile strangers were probably after *him*, yet he had vanished without a word, leaving her to deal with this mess!

“You don’t need to know. Just die!” The two women, seeing that the man had failed three times in his assassination attempts, decided to take matters into their own hands, no longer relying on him alone to kill Yun Qingxue.

As the women moved, the man lunged again with his dagger.

Trapped against the wall with no retreat, Yun Qingxue faced attacks from three directions at once…

In the midst of the crisis, A’dai, coiled around her wrist, tensed, ready to strike. The moment the three closed in, A’dai shot forward, sinking its fangs into the fastest attacker.

“Ah!” The first victim screamed as his face rapidly darkened. A’dai moved like lightning, biting the second person before they could react.

The third, shielded by the first two, had just enough time to erect a defensive barrier with magic.

The man, the first to be bitten, gritted his teeth against the spreading poison and shouted at the woman who had raised the barrier, “Kill her now!”

Realizing the urgency, the woman conjured a sword and thrust it straight at Yun Qingxue’s heart.

“A’dai, run! Go back to the aquatic realm!”

The sword came too fast, too vicious—Yun Qingxue knew she couldn’t dodge it. The only thing she couldn’t bear to leave behind was A’dai.

The cold blade gleamed like a scythe in Death’s hand.

As she shouted at A’dai, the icy steel reached her.

A resolute glint flashed in Yun Qingxue’s eyes. Instead of retreating, she lunged forward, gripping a dagger she had hastily retrieved from her spatial ring.

In both lifetimes, she had only wanted an ordinary, peaceful life, yet fate always pushed her to the brink of danger.

She had never sought conflict, nor harbored ill intent, yet people always seemed determined to harm her!

In her past life, it was her unique constitution that led her most trusted childhood friend to betray her for wealth and glory…

In this life, her noble identity as the Flower King had brought her nothing but peril…

Qian Dai, who had known her for only two days, had died for her, forcing her into endless flight…

Now, at this critical moment between life and death, only one thought consumed her—*fight to the end!*

If she couldn’t live peacefully, then in death, she would drag at least two down with her!

So she fearlessly met the woman’s blade head-on. The sword would pierce her body, but her dagger would plunge into the woman’s heart at the same time.

*Clang—!*

The sword grazed Yun Qingxue’s skin, tearing through her clothes—but it couldn’t advance another inch.

The woman’s vicious gaze rapidly dimmed.

A burst of green mist—and in the blink of an eye, the woman vanished, replaced by an apricot blossom.

Yun Qingxue knew the woman had reverted to her true form.

The blossom withered at a visible pace, its branches drying and shriveling…

Within moments, all that remained was dust scattering to the ground. The entire process took barely a minute or two…

“Are you alright?” Hua Yin’s flat voice suddenly sounded beside her.

She turned and met his dark eyes—only for him to avert his gaze first.

The remaining man and woman, bitten by A’dai, exchanged pained glances through the poison’s torment and struggled to flee.

Two black threads shot from Hua Yin’s hand, binding them before they could move.

“Who sent you?” Hua Yin interrogated, his tone devoid of emotion.

The pair clenched their jaws, refusing to speak.

“Hmph.” With a cold smirk, Hua Yin flicked his fingers, sending two dark beams into their foreheads.

The black light seeped in, and their already hazy eyes grew vacant.

“Who sent you?” Hua Yin’s voice was calm yet carried an eerie weight.

“The Grand Elder,” they answered mechanically.

“Grand Elder Tong Yun of the Flora Tribe?”

“Yes. The Grand Elder sent us.”

“Why?”

“To kill the escaped Flower King—to ensure she never returns alive!” the man droned.

“But why target *me*?” Yun Qingxue frowned. She was in disguise—had they seen through it from the start?

“Because we suspected you also carried the Starblue Peony’s bloodline,” the man replied woodenly. Beside him, the woman convulsed as A’dai’s poison reached her heart. She reverted to her true form, withered, and died.

Only the man remained—likely stronger in cultivation than the woman, given his prolonged resistance to the poison.

“So you tried to kill me just on *suspicion*?”

“Better to kill a thousand by mistake than spare one! As long as any trace of the Starblue Peony bloodline exists, the Grand Elder’s claim to the Flower King’s throne will never be legitimate!”

*Thud—!*

With those final words, the man spat black blood. Like the others, he convulsed, reverted to his plant form, and crumbled to dust.

Only two withered stems and scattered ashes remained as proof of their existence.

“Thank you.”

Surviving the ordeal, Yun Qingxue turned to Hua Yin with genuine gratitude.

Had he not intervened at that critical moment, she would have died…

“No need.” Hua Yin’s eyes flickered briefly, but his expression remained impassive. “We must leave immediately. The commotion likely alerted nearby cultivators—if they arrive, we’re in trouble.”
