Chapter 268: Battling the Bat Demon

“Ah!!”

Yun Qingxue was staring at the bat demon, racking her brain on how to break through its hardened wings, when suddenly Liuli let out a pained scream. Her fluffy, snow-white little body collapsed to the ground, writhing in agony.

Liuli’s sudden distress forced Yun Qingxue to divert her attention.

“Master! That stinky bat seems to be summoning its companions with some kind of special sound!”

As Yun Qingxue turned her gaze toward Liuli, Adai’s unusually tense voice reached her ears.

Adai’s words instantly clarified the reason behind Liuli’s condition.

The “special sound” Adai mentioned was likely the ultrasonic waves bats use for navigation.

She recalled reading that ordinary bats’ eyes are practically useless, and they rely on emitting ultrasonic waves to navigate at night.

These waves bounce back when they encounter obstacles, and since bats have exceptionally sensitive hearing, they can detect the returning echoes to avoid obstacles.

Ordinary humans can’t hear these ultrasonic sounds at all.

But certain senses in animals are naturally more acute than those of other species! And the bat they were currently dealing with was no ordinary one—it was a demonic, mutated creature.

The ultrasonic waves it emitted must have been far more potent than those of a normal bat.

From Yun Qingxue’s earlier observations during their fight, the bat’s eyes could clearly see.

Therefore, the sound it was producing now was likely a unique form of communication among its kind—and also a sonic weapon!

Liuli must have been disturbed and overwhelmed by the sound.

As for Adai, it was probably affected too, but since its cultivation level was slightly higher than Liuli’s, the impact wasn’t as severe.

As for herself and Daise, being plant spirits, they were naturally less susceptible to the strange innate abilities of animals, which was why they remained completely unaffected.

Having figured it all out, Yun Qingxue turned her attention back to the bat demon, which was shielding itself with its wings. Blue light flickered in her palm.

She couldn’t just stand by and let the bat call for reinforcements, nor could she allow it to harm Adai and Liuli with its sonic attacks.

Vines shot up from the ground like serpents, controlled by her, lashing straight at the coiled-up bat demon.

Peeking through the gaps in its wings, the bat demon’s crimson eyes flickered with disdain as it saw the vines coming.

Its wings had been refined to be harder than diamonds—what could mere vines do to it?

At first, it had thought it could easily deal with these intruders in Bat Forest, drain their magic and blood, and enjoy a feast.

But these little pests turned out to be tougher than expected! Its kin would arrive soon after its call, and then these intruders would be doomed.

What a shame—it wouldn’t get to savor them alone!

A flash of frustration crossed the bat demon’s eyes…

But that frustration didn’t last long before being replaced by a suffocating tightness.

The vines it had dismissed as harmless didn’t strike it—instead, they coiled around it like ropes, tightening relentlessly…

Soon, the bat demon was wrapped up like a silkworm cocoon, completely sealed off by the vines.

As the vines constricted further, it let out a pained screech—”Ah…!”

Yun Qingxue continued tightening the vines with both hands, and with one final pull, the vines in the air snapped. The bat demon, now completely entangled, fell silent.

*Clang! Clang!*

Two metallic sounds rang out as the vines loosened. Liuli, who had been writhing in pain, calmed down, and Adai also relaxed.

Yun Qingxue glanced at the ground nearby, where the bat demon’s two gray wings now lay scattered.

The bat demon’s body had already been crushed to pieces by the vines’ force.

Liuli scampered over to the wings, picked them up with her teeth, and carried them back to Yun Qingxue.

“Master, these wings have mutated—they might be useful for crafting weapons later! Even if not refined, just look at their shape—they could be used as throwing weapons as they are!” Adai remarked, eyeing the wings.

Yun Qingxue took the wings and cast a cleansing spell, removing all traces of filth.

She then handed them to Daise. “Adai’s right. These things are incredibly tough and sharp. Even unrefined, they can serve as decent defensive tools. You take them.”

“Thank you, Master.” Daise accepted them with both hands, examining them closely.

The wings were dull gray, and worst of all, they came from that hideous bat demon…

Just thinking about the bat’s grotesque face made Daise shudder.

But then again, this was the first gift her master had ever given her—it held immense sentimental value.

Besides, among their group, she was the weakest. Having a weapon like this would at least help her avoid dragging everyone down.

With that shift in perspective, the dull gray wings suddenly didn’t seem so bad. In fact, she found herself growing fond of them.

“Go!”

Having mentally reconciled with the wings, Daise flung them out experimentally, testing their power.

The wings shot forth like boomerangs, slicing through the air and striking a cluster of thick bamboo stalks in the distance. In an instant, dozens of bamboo trunks as thick as bowls were cleanly severed at the waist.

Daise couldn’t help but smile in delight. The weapon her master had given her was at least ten times more powerful than she’d imagined!

In truth, even Yun Qingxue was surprised by the wings’ destructive force.

She hadn’t expected a bat demon’s wings to be *this* tough…

And this was just Daise—the weakest among them—wielding them.

If someone with higher cultivation used these wings as weapons, they could probably level an entire bamboo forest in a single strike!

“That bat demon summoned its kin. We shouldn’t linger here—let’s go.”

Yun Qingxue gave the order, and Daise quickly stowed her new weapon away. The group retreated the way they’d come.

But after only a few steps, a rustling sound surrounded them.

Yun Qingxue tensed, looking up. The bamboo around them swayed unnaturally, though there was no wind.

Soon, a massive bat—easily two meters tall—appeared in the air. Its blood-red eyes scanned the area before locking onto Yun Qingxue and her companions.

Around it flew several smaller bats, each still about a meter in length. More bats, roughly half a meter in size, perched on the surrounding bamboo.

Yun Qingxue’s heart tightened.

*Big trouble has arrived.*
