“Can you take me back to my original world?” Yun Qingxue asked with a solemn expression.
Xiao Xiaoxiao blinked and replied, “It shouldn’t be a problem. Across the three thousand worlds, except for the entrance to the Profound Spirit Continent, which was sealed by the Underworld King, we underworld officials can reach any other place. However, my powers are limited, so I can’t let you stay there for too long.”
“The Underworld King sealed the entrance to the Profound Spirit Continent? Then how did I inexplicably end up in the underworld?” Yun Qingxue murmured, frowning.
“Well, we can ask Mingdi when he gets back. Maybe he sent some ghost envoys to the Profound Spirit Continent for business, temporarily opening the passage between the underworld and the continent. You just happened to stumble in by accident.”
“But doesn’t this just prove how fated we are? Haha, Qingxue, do you know how worried I’ve been about you since we last parted? I tried so many times to find a way to the Profound Spirit Continent to look for you, but I never succeeded!”
“That bastard Mingdi kept saying the situation there was too complicated, with too many powerful beings, and refused to let me go!”
“So, when do we leave?” Yun Qingxue asked.
“How about right now, while Mingdi isn’t around?” Xiao Xiaoxiao grinned mischievously.
“Xiaoxiao, are you sure this is okay?” Yun Qingxue looked at her, suddenly feeling a bit uneasy.
She just wanted to return to her original world to check on Zhou Dao and Lin Chuchu. If that despicable couple had stolen her heart and were living happily together, she had to find a way to make them pay for it in this lifetime.
That would at least avenge her past self.
But seeing Xiao Xiaoxiao’s sly smile, Yun Qingxue suddenly felt her desire to return waning…
She was suddenly worried that Xiao Xiaoxiao might drag her into some kind of trouble!
“Let’s go, Qingxue!” Xiao Xiaoxiao, oblivious to Yun Qingxue’s hesitation, excitedly pulled her out of the Underworld King’s palace.
Daise was still standing at the entrance. Seeing Yun Qingxue and Xiao Xiaoxiao emerge, she immediately followed.
Xiao Xiaoxiao paused and glanced at Yun Qingxue with a questioning look, silently asking, “Are you bringing your maid along?”
Yun Qingxue shook her head. “Xiaoxiao, just the two of us. Have someone arrange a place for Daise to rest. It’d be strange to leave her standing at the palace entrance.”
“Got it!”
Xiao Xiaoxiao nodded, and Yun Qingxue turned to Daise. “I have some matters to attend to. You, A’dai, and Liuli wait for me in the underworld.”
“Yes, Mistress,” Daise replied respectfully. “Please be careful.”
“You, come here!” After Yun Qingxue finished instructing Daise, Xiao Xiaoxiao pointed at a nearby underworld soldier and beckoned him over.
The soldier floated over respectfully. “What are your orders, Underworld Queen?”
“Take them to a place to rest and treat them well!” Xiao Xiaoxiao gestured at Daise.
“Understood.”
The soldier bowed, and Xiao Xiaoxiao quickly pulled Yun Qingxue away.
“Miss, please follow me,” the soldier said politely to Daise.
Daise withdrew her gaze from Yun Qingxue’s departing figure and smiled. “Thank you, brother.”
“No need for thanks,” the soldier replied awkwardly, scratching his head before leading the way.
Yun Qingxue, still holding Xiao Xiaoxiao’s hand, twisted and turned through the underworld’s winding paths, passing countless structures before finally arriving before a massive palace.
“Let’s go in!” Without hesitation, Xiao Xiaoxiao pushed open the doors and pulled Yun Qingxue inside.
The interior was vast, easily the size of twenty football fields.
The room was sparsely furnished, with only numerous mirror-like objects standing at different angles, each about the height of a person.
But they weren’t true mirrors—though they had reflective surfaces, they couldn’t show reflections.
The “glass” in the golden frames was pitch black, like ink.
Xiao Xiaoxiao led Yun Qingxue straight to one of them.
“Underworld envoys use these to capture souls whose lifespans have ended. They exit from here and then guide the spirits back via the Yellow Spring Road.”
“For mortals, the Yellow Spring Road is a one-way path with no return. It connects to any of the three thousand worlds, but it’s strictly an entrance—no exit.”
Yun Qingxue nodded, eyeing the bronze mirror-like object. “Does this lead to the 21st century?”
“Exactly! Step through this door, and we’ll arrive in the 21st century!” Xiao Xiaoxiao patted her chest confidently. “Though there are many entrances here, trust me—I won’t mistake the right one! But I really can’t let you stay in that world for too long.”
“As an underworld envoy, the Heavenly Dao grants me the authority to traverse any of the three thousand worlds freely to manage wandering souls. But you—even though you’ve reincarnated as the Flower King of the Profound Spirit Continent with divine powers—are still bound by the Heavenly Dao’s restrictions. You can’t cross dimensions at will!”
“So once we’re in the 21st century, see whoever you need to see quickly. I’ll try to buy you as much time as possible.”
“How long can I stay there?” Yun Qingxue asked.
If it was only a few minutes, she wouldn’t bother going. What could she accomplish in such a short time? If she couldn’t exact revenge, was she just going to watch those two live happily after stealing her heart?
“At worst, half a day. At best, a full day.”
“Will my powers still work there?” Yun Qingxue pressed. The time Xiao Xiaoxiao offered was enough for her plans—now, the only question was whether she’d retain her strength. With her abilities, even half a day would be enough to deal with those two.
“Of course they will!” Xiao Xiaoxiao laughed. “That’s precisely why beings like you, who possess supernatural abilities, are restricted from crossing dimensions. If your powers remained intact in other worlds, you could disrupt their natural order.”
“But if you forcibly take me into a world that’s no longer mine, will it affect you?” Yun Qingxue asked worriedly.
Though Zhou Dao’s betrayal and Lin Chuchu’s theft of her heart filled her with hatred, her friendship with Xiao Xiaoxiao mattered more than revenge.
If this trip would harm Xiao Xiaoxiao, she’d rather give up the chance to punish Zhou Dao and Lin Chuchu.
“Don’t worry, it won’t affect me at all!” Xiao Xiaoxiao grinned and pulled Yun Qingxue into the mirror.
The black surface rippled like water as the two stepped through.
