Once Jinlin used this provocation tactic, Cangyan had absolutely no room to back out! A man’s pride and a king’s dignity would never allow him to utter another word of refusal!
“Since the Dragon King and the Phoenix King are in such high spirits, I shall oblige the two of you—consider it a small gesture of hospitality!”
Cangyan narrowed his eyes dangerously.
“Now that’s more like it!” Jinlin laughed heartily, then turned to Feng Zihuang. “Brother Feng, didn’t you always want to spar with Brother Cang? Why don’t I do you a favor today and let the two of you go first?”
Last time, Feng Zihuang had gone to see Xuexue while Jinlin kept Cangyan occupied. Now, the tables had turned—it was only fair that Feng Zihuang take the first hit this time!
As for him…
Jinlin smirked. Even if he couldn’t go talk to Xuexue, just getting to look at her a little longer was enough.
“The Dragon King is too kind!” Feng Zihuang wasn’t blind to Jinlin’s intentions.
Jinlin pretended not to catch the sarcasm and shamelessly replied, “No need to thank me, Brother Feng!”
Feng Zihuang scoffed. “If the Dragon King were to revert to his true form, I imagine his face would be covered in thick scales.”
Jinlin raised an eyebrow. Oh? So Feng Zihuang was calling him thick-skinned in a roundabout way?
“Does the Phoenix King revert to a featherless head in his true form?” Jinlin countered smoothly.
If you have feathers, you’re just as shameless as me. If not, you’re outright brazen!
Feng Zihuang didn’t take offense, merely taking two steps toward Cangyan while sighing inwardly—the Dragon King really was petty and vindictive!
“Qingxue, remember what you promised me!” Cangyan said in a low voice, about to step forward when he suddenly felt someone tug at his sleeve.
“Um…” Yun Qingxue hesitated, looking slightly uneasy. “Be careful…”
Cangyan’s previously gloomy mood instantly brightened at her words. It almost felt like there was a place for him in her heart after all…
“Mm.” He responded, masking the small surge of joy in his chest, then stepped forward to face Feng Zihuang.
“Beast King, after you.”
“Phoenix King, after you!” The two clasped their fists in mutual respect.
The moment the words left their mouths, a whirlwind erupted between them—a manifestation of their clashing auras.
The whirlwind grew fiercer as their powers intensified, locked in a stalemate. Suddenly, both Feng Zihuang and Cangyan soared into the air.
The whirlwind on the ground dissipated instantly.
Feng Zihuang’s hands moved swiftly, summoning countless embers that shot toward Cangyan.
Cangyan’s icy blue eyes gleamed coldly as a massive wolf’s head materialized behind him.
The wolf bared its terrifying fangs, unleashing a gale from its maw.
The embers met the gale—flames flared, winds roared.
After a series of clashes, the fire died, the wind stilled.
Streaks of light, like wild serpents, shot from Cangyan toward Feng Zihuang. Feng Zihuang clasped his hands together, and a pair of fiery wings unfurled in the air.
As the streaks vanished into the wings, the beautiful crimson feathers detached like arrows, flying straight at Cangyan.
Yun Qingxue stood below, watching the dazzling battle under the bright sun. Their moves were spectacular, their auras overwhelming.
This was the power of kings. Her eyes brimmed with envy—if only she had strength like theirs, she wouldn’t have to live in such fear and hardship…
Across the clearing, Jinlin’s gaze remained fixed on Yun Qingxue. When she finally looked away from the sky, her eyes inadvertently met his.
For a brief moment, their gazes locked. Yun Qingxue didn’t know how to speak to Jinlin without arousing Cangyan’s suspicion.
Just as quickly, she averted her eyes—but in that instant, Jinlin understood her dilemma.
Above, Cangyan and Feng Zihuang fought with increasing ferocity. Just as their attacks clashed once more, Jinlin suddenly transformed into a golden streak, darting toward Yun Qingxue without warning.
Yun Qingxue dodged swiftly, but Jinlin still managed to seize her arm. Their eyes met again.
“As the Flower King, your skills must be impressive. I’d love to exchange a few moves!” Jinlin grinned, a hint of mischief in his smirk.
“Does the Dragon King intend to bully a mere woman?” Yun Qingxue retorted coldly, struggling to free herself.
“Nonsense! Though we differ in gender, we are both kings. A friendly spar between monarchs can hardly be called bullying!”
Yun Qingxue’s eyes turned even colder, tinged with panic. She suddenly raised her free hand, a faint glow gathering at her fingertips, and struck at Jinlin without hesitation.
Such a weak attack was easily dodged.
“Did that bastard Cangyan threaten you?” Jinlin seized the chance to ask.
“He made me swear on my life as the Flower King that I love him,” Yun Qingxue answered tersely.
“That bastard!” Jinlin’s anger was no longer feigned—but it was directed at Cangyan, not her.
As they continued their mock battle, Yun Qingxue added, “You and Feng Zihuang must keep Cangyan occupied. If he breaks free, I won’t be able to delay the oath any longer!”
“Don’t worry, Xuexue.” Jinlin’s expression hardened. That toad Cangyan, daring to force Xuexue like this—he wouldn’t let him have his way!
Above, Feng Zihuang and Cangyan clashed once more, each neutralizing the other’s attack. In the brief lull, both noticed the scene below.
Jinlin had one of Yun Qingxue’s arms twisted behind her back while his other hand aimed straight for her heart.
Cangyan’s mind went blank in panic. “STOP!”
He roared, abandoning his fight with Feng Zihuang to charge at Jinlin.
“Dragon King, don’t act rashly!” Feng Zihuang shouted in feigned alarm, following closely behind.
Cangyan was genuinely terrified Jinlin would hurt Yun Qingxue. Feng Zihuang, however, felt no real concern—this was all an act.
Would Jinlin ever harm Yun Qingxue? Obviously not.
But just as Feng Zihuang was certain of this, his pupils suddenly constricted.
