Chapter 103: Being Played

Cang Yan’s gaze towards Yun Qingxue grew increasingly tender, but Yun Qingxue felt as though she were sitting on pins and needles.

Originally, she had been pretending to have a headache, but Cang Yan stubbornly refused to leave and even “kindly” massaged her head for her. As he continued, she felt her initially pain-free head begin to ache faintly—then more and more intensely!

Though Cang Yan’s massage technique was excellent, Yun Qingxue couldn’t shake the overwhelming discomfort.

What was Cang Yan? A wolf—a proud, solitary wolf! For a wolf to “fawn” over her like this could only mean one of two things: either the world had gone mad, or she was about to die!

“Is the pressure alright?”

Just as Yun Qingxue’s mind was in turmoil, Cang Yan asked in an exceedingly gentle tone. His overly considerate attitude only deepened her unease, making everything feel even more unpredictable.

“My head doesn’t hurt as much now. Thank you for your trouble. I just need to rest a little longer on my own.”

Yun Qingxue tried to sit up and free herself from Cang Yan. But the moment she moved, a pair of large hands pressed down on her shoulders, forcing her back onto the couch.

“If it’s helping, let me massage you a bit longer,” Cang Yan said with a smile.

“N-No need…” Yun Qingxue attempted to struggle again.

“I told you, no need to be polite with me.” Cang Yan held her shoulders firmly, leaving her no room to resist.

Gritting her teeth, Yun Qingxue had no choice but to relent. She cursed herself inwardly—this headache excuse had truly backfired.

But it wasn’t entirely her fault! Under normal circumstances, Cang Yan should have just called a physician to examine her. The physician would declare her fine, she’d say she wanted to rest, and Cang Yan would tactfully leave.

Who could have guessed that Cang Yan would defy expectations? Never in her wildest dreams would Yun Qingxue have imagined that Cang Yan—a king of his people—would stoop to personally massaging the head of a mere captive like her!

The gentle, rhythmic pressure returned to her head. Cang Yan’s fingertips were warm, but to Yun Qingxue, that warmth felt unbearably scorching. She had no idea what was going through Cang Yan’s mind, but she was thoroughly uncomfortable—awkward beyond words!

The atmosphere was both tense and bizarre.

Out of options, Yun Qingxue resorted to the most desperate measure: she closed her eyes and pretended to fall asleep.

“Still in pain?” After massaging for a while longer, Cang Yan asked softly.

Yun Qingxue kept her eyes shut, feigning deafness. The pressure on her head vanished, and after a moment, she felt something like a blanket being draped over her. She continued her act, hoping that if she “slept,” Cang Yan would finally leave.

Eyes closed, she strained her ears for any sound in the room. Silence. No door opening or closing. She couldn’t tell if Cang Yan had left. So she waited, eyes still shut.

Time crawled by. The room was so quiet she could have heard a pin drop.

Maybe Cang Yan had left after all. He was skilled in magic—he didn’t need to use the door. Slipping away unnoticed would be child’s play for him!

After what felt like an eternity, Yun Qingxue couldn’t resist any longer. Slowly, ever so slowly, she cracked open one eye—and immediately wished she could turn back time or that some hero riding a five-colored cloud would swoop in and vanquish this demon, Cang Yan!

How could the world remain so silent for so long, yet this bastard still hadn’t taken the hint and left?!

Dressed in a dark robe with subtle patterns, his handsome features composed, Cang Yan watched Yun Qingxue’s one-eyed peeking with amusement, his mood inexplicably brightening.

Yun Qingxue’s mood, however, plummeted. Since she’d been caught, she might as well own it. She opened both eyes and offered Cang Yan an awkward smile.

“Qingxue, awake now?” Cang Yan smiled as if he hadn’t noticed her earlier one-eyed antics.

“Y-Yes, awake!” Yun Qingxue forced a smile, though internally she was seething.

Cang Yan’s grin widened, his voice laced with amusement. “Qingxue’s way of waking up is… quite unique!”

With that, he deliberately closed one eye, mimicking her earlier pose.

Then, watching her flustered expression, he burst into laughter.

“Ahahahaha—!”

Yun Qingxue’s eyebrow twitched. She clenched her fists to stop herself from lunging at Cang Yan and beating him senseless. Of course, the main reason she didn’t was because she knew she stood no chance against him.

“I quite like Qingxue’s unique way of waking up. Pfft—heh!”

As if afraid she might fly into a rage, Cang Yan quickly stifled his laughter, though the mirth in his eyes remained unmistakable.

Who asked you to like it?!

Yun Qingxue screamed internally.

“Rest well, Qingxue. I’ll come see you again tomorrow morning.” With that, Cang Yan finally strode out of her sight.

“*Huff*—!”

“*Huff*—!”

Yun Qingxue took two deep breaths, silently cursing Cang Yan’s ancestors in her heart before feeling slightly better.

That damned Cang Yan! Using her was bad enough, but toying with her like a monkey? Unacceptable! Even if Liu Ying and Feng Zihuang refused to help, she’d find a way to escape the Beast Clan on her own!

Meanwhile, outside Yun Qingxue’s quarters, a guard trailed cautiously behind Cang Yan, stealing occasional glances at him.

As they walked, the smile on Cang Yan’s face showed no signs of fading. Every little act of Yun Qingxue’s—her feigned sleep, her tricks—still struck him as utterly adorable. The more he thought about it, the more endearing she seemed.

Power, beauty. Cang Yan lifted his gaze to the starry sky, his chest swelling with ambition.

The guard had no idea what was happening but grew even more cautious. The Beast King was known for his inscrutable demeanor—rarely showing emotion. Today’s unusual behavior left the guard uneasy, his heart unsettled.
