The ancient Chaos City remained as tranquil as it had been for billions of years.
Three violet-robed envoys walked along the streets until they reached the mansion of Zhenyan King.
“It’s the violet-robed envoys from the City Lord’s Mansion.”
“The violet-robed envoys have arrived.”
Some of the named disciples of Zhenyan King’s mansion were secretly astonished upon seeing this. The City Lord’s Mansion usually employed black-robed envoys; violet-robed envoys were rarely seen. Their appearance at Zhenyan King’s mansion must mean something significant.
“Hurry, inform our master immediately.”
“Notify the teacher.”
Shortly afterward, Zhenyan King personally came out to greet them, standing by the entrance of the reception hall, his mind filled with curiosity: “Three violet-robed envoys from the City Lord’s Mansion have come together. Usually, even if there were matters to discuss, a black-robed envoy would suffice. What could be so important that three violet-robed envoys are required?”
“Zhenyan King,” the tall violet-robed envoy smiled, “Congratulations.”
“Congratulations indeed,” added the other two envoys, also smiling.
“You come bearing congratulations. I wonder what fortunate news it could be? Please, all of you, come inside and sit,” Zhenyan King led the three envoys into the hall. Immediately, some of his disciples brought in fine wine and fruits. Afterward, they obediently left, knowing well that they shouldn’t meddle in major affairs.
Inside the hall, only the three violet-robed envoys and Zhenyan King remained.
“Great good news,” the tall envoy said with a wide smile, simultaneously flipping his hand to reveal a metal box.
“Such secrecy,” Zhenyan King chuckled as he accepted the box. With a click, he opened it. Inside lay a hexagonal stone plaque upon which was carved a statue of a beast god roaring toward the heavens.
Zhenyan King froze at the sight. His hands began to tremble as he reached for the plaque. Almost instantly, his eyes reddened. His fingers gently touched the beast god statue, as though fearing it might be an illusion. His voice quivered: “The Beast God Inheritance Token! It is, it is the Beast God Inheritance Token!!!”
“For so long, so very long, I have longed for a Beast God Inheritance Token yet could not obtain one,” Zhenyan King trembled all over. “Now I finally have the chance, finally, finally…”
For endless ages, he had been trapped at the final threshold. Though the Beast God Inheritance Token could assist him, acquiring one had been extraordinarily challenging. Throughout the entire universe, such tokens were exceedingly scarce, representing the most distinctive inheritance of the Ancestral God School. The human race likely possessed only a handful of each type of inheritance token, meticulously allocated to nurture the emergence of exceptional geniuses across countless eras. Without sufficient innate talent, one would never be granted such a token directly.
Without the token…
There was no chance at all of breaking through that final step, which seemed like an insurmountable barrier. In fact, this final step had troubled countless powerful beings across the cosmos. Many Kings at their peak or at their limit had reached this stage, yet how many had ascended to become Cosmic Venerables?
“Thank you, Lord of Chaos City,” Zhenyan King suddenly knelt, his eyes brimming with excitement. “Thank you for the race’s generous gift. I, Zhenyan, will do my utmost to undergo this inheritance and ascend to the rank of Cosmic Venerable, not disappointing the race’s expectations.”
“Quickly, rise, Zhenyan King,” the tall violet-robed envoy was startled and hurriedly helped him up.
“The race has bestowed the Beast God Inheritance Token upon me. I, Zhenyan…” Zhenyan King was overwhelmed with emotion.
“It wasn’t bestowed by the race. It was gifted to you by your disciple, Luo Feng,” the tall envoy quickly explained.
Zhenyan King was stunned: “You mean…”
“It was your disciple, Luo Feng!” the tall envoy hurriedly clarified. “I was originally serving Lord Chaos City in the Primordial Secret Region. This time, the City Lord personally ordered us three to deliver this to you. Luo Feng is still in the Primordial Secret Region, with the City Lord.”
“How could he have a Beast God Inheritance Token?” Zhenyan King’s heart surged with emotions—excitement, gratitude, confusion, and urgency. He thought to himself, “My disciple also cultivates the Beast God’s path. With this token, he could easily exchange it with the race for another Beast God Inheritance Token and undergo the inheritance himself. Why would he give it to me?”
Even the closest master-disciple bonds could not transcend the universal principle that the strong would inevitably seek to augment their own strength. Presenting gifts to one’s master was regarded as an act of reverence, yet bestowing such a priceless treasure was exceedingly uncommon.
“Zhenyan King, you’ve gained an exceptional disciple.”
“We won’t stay any longer; we must return to report,” the tall envoy said as Zhenyan King moved to see them off. “There’s no need to see us out.”
With that, the three violet-robed envoys departed, leaving behind a Zhenyan King who was both elated and deeply unsettled. Such a precious gift was almost too much to handle. Holding the Beast God Inheritance Token gifted by his disciple, he felt as though it were burning his hands—though it was exactly what he had longed for.
…
Zhenyan King connected his consciousness to the virtual universe, sending no fewer than ten emails to Luo Feng in succession, before immediately heading to Luo Feng’s estate at Yuxiang Mountain.
“Luofeng!” As he entered the estate, Zhenyan King called out loudly, causing many servants and guards to look on in confusion.
“Master,” Luo Feng quickly stepped out from inside.
“Come with me.”
Zhenyan King seized Luo Feng and dragged him into the hall. The moment they were seated, Zhenyan King urgently questioned, “Where did you obtain the Beast God Inheritance Token? Was it granted to you by our race? Don’t you realize how crucial that token is for you? You are also cultivating the path of the Beast God—how could you sacrifice such an opportunity for your master? Though I have always yearned for this token, I cannot bring myself to exchange my disciple’s future for my own gain. My conscience would be troubled, and my path as a powerhouse would waver. Even if I were to undergo the inheritance, I might still fail.”
“Master, don’t be so hasty,” Luo Feng quickly replied. “It wasn’t bestowed by the race. I obtained it myself.”
“You obtained it yourself?” Zhenyan King was astonished.
Could it really be that easy to obtain?
The Beast God Inheritance Token was not so easily obtained. Any other powerful being who discovered it would immediately recognize its significance through divine power and promptly report it to their race. Consequently, the vast majority of such tokens circulating in the boundless universe were monopolized by the races.
“It really was obtained by me,” Luo Feng insisted. “Think about it. If it had been bestowed by the race, wouldn’t Lord Chaos City have forbidden me from giving it to you before sending it through the City Lord’s Mansion?”
“Hmm,” Zhenyan King nodded. “That makes sense. Chaos City Lord would not have allowed you to act recklessly. Even if you insisted on doing so, he would have sent someone to inform me.”
“Master, you go ahead and use it. I will obtain another token bestowed by the race,” Luo Feng said.
“With the strength you’ve displayed, the race will certainly value you. Even Seven-Sword King was granted a Beast God Inheritance Token, and he isn’t as strong as you. You will surely receive one too,” Zhenyan King nodded, then frowned. “But to receive such a token, you must wait until you become an immortal god. That means delaying your inheritance for a long time…”
“Don’t worry, Master,” Luo Feng grinned. “Master, you’ve forgotten—I am already the Daohe King. My strength is sufficient. Moreover, Lord Chaos City himself has gone to apply for this token on my behalf. He said that with my talent and his reputation, it will definitely succeed.”
Zhenyan King sighed: “Lord Chaos City is the supreme authority of our human race’s virtual universe company. If he pushes for it, saying it will succeed means it surely will. Haha, Luo Feng, this time I’ve gained a huge advantage from you.”
“Small matter, small matter,” Luo Feng chuckled.
…
Deep within the Primordial Secret Region, the surging Qianbao River flowed mightily through the starry expanse. Within the palaces at the center of the Qianbao River, Luo Feng sat atop one of the palace roofs, cross-legged in meditation, gazing into the distant void at the endless river.
“Today is the appointed day for discussion, Luo Feng,” echoed Chaos City Lord’s earlier words in his mind. “Whether the Beast God Inheritance Token is approved will be decided today. If it fails, you’ll have to wait until you become an immortal god to reapply.”
“I hope it succeeds.”
“It will succeed,” Luo Feng sat atop the palace roof, silently anticipating. “The inheritance realm—the most sacred domain of the Ancestral God Sect! How thrilling.”
Time passed.
Luo Feng grew increasingly restless as he waited, yet he understood that at this very moment, the highest authorities of humanity were deliberating on the matter. Representatives from the Virtual Universe Company, the Giant Axe Fighting Arena, the Cosmic Mercenary Alliance, and the other three major factions had all assembled. Would Luo Feng’s request be approved? Would the elders make an exception for him this time?
After a long while—
“Luofeng,” a calm voice called out.
Luo Feng quickly turned his head. Standing on the roof behind him was Chaos City Lord, holding his weathered stone staff. Luo Feng’s heart trembled—this meant the deliberation was over. There was a result.
“Master,” Luo Feng immediately rose to greet him.
“The deliberation is complete,” Chaos City Lord said. “Judging from your eyes, I can tell you’re anxious. Rest assured, it’s good news. The application has been approved. Your revelation as the Daohe King indeed surprised our race’s Cosmic Sovereigns, but they hold you in high regard. I didn’t have to exert much effort.”
Luo Feng was overjoyed, though he didn’t truly believe Chaos City Lord’s claim of minimal effort. Behind the scenes, his master must have worked tirelessly.
“Thank you, Master. I will strive to fulfill your expectations and those of the other Cosmic Sovereigns,” Luo Feng replied earnestly.
“Haha… Just don’t disappoint humanity’s hopes,” the Chaos City Lord laughed heartily. “The Beast God Inheritance Token will arrive within the next couple of days. I’ve already sent orders to Zhenyan, instructing him to come to the Primordial Secret Region. He will meet up with you, and the two of you will set off together for the Ancestral God Sect’s inheritance realm.”
“Understood,” Luo Feng replied joyfully.
…
The human race acted with remarkable efficiency. By the very next day, an envoy had personally delivered the Beast God Inheritance Token.
“The Beast God Inheritance Token,” Luo Feng turned the hexagonal metal plaque over in his hands. On its surface was carved an image of a beast god resembling a giant one-horned lizard—the very same image found in the Blood-Net World. Yet, clearly, this carving was far less detailed and lacked the fused laws present in the statue Luo Feng had previously obtained.
“What an extraordinary metal. I’ve never even heard of it,” Luo Feng murmured as he ran his fingers over the hexagonal plaque. His mental energy seeped into it, and a stream of information flooded his mind—almost identical to what he had experienced when examining the hexagonal stone plaque before, including the same cosmic coordinates.
